Geoff Ramsey responds to Rooster Teeth Shutdown

Ойын-сауық

Rooster Teeth co-founder Geoff Ramsey and General Manager Jordan Levin respond to the company's shutdown by Warner Bros. Discovery on March 6th, 2024.
Footage taken from a Rooster Teeth livestream addressing the shutdown on March 7th, 2024.
Roughly 150 employees encompassing RT were effectively laid off and will be unemployed within a month or so, according to RT employees. The status of remaining and upcoming shows such as Camp Camp, RWBY, and Red vs. Blue: Restoration are unknown. Warner shutdown the company after being unable to sell the company and determining RT and its properties were "unprofitable." Warner is looking to sell these properties once RT is shutdown.
Please support any and all employees individually on their personal platforms. All proceeds made to RT directly now are not expected to go to any of the remaining employees as RT begins to shutdown.

The stuff they were making at the end was properly good stuff from dozens of different people split across a bunch of teams. I doubt you knew what more than a couple of the shows were.

Sure, no possible way that could go wrong. RT and their staff consistently acted like they were so much better than "those damn alt-right" trolls, and yet there they are letting Haywood and Kovic run rampant as well as forcing employees to work OT without compensation. Halo Reach: Bum Bait. That was the first RT video I've ever watched. It had Geoff's infectious laugh with Gavin's wit. From then I watched week after week of Things To Do, Minecraft Let's Plays, Achievement Guides, AHWU's, Vs, Go, Shenanigans, and so so so much of RoosterTeeth and Achievement Hunter's content, and it was all because I laughed when Geoff laughed. I laugh when he laughs, and now I've cried when he cried. I would not have have gone to RTX in 2019 if it wasn't for this man. I have so much respect for everything you've done for me and everyone who found their start through you or whoever helped people discover this company. We love you too, Geoff. More than you could imagine.

I think we can all agree on two things; First, for those of us who grew up with this company, who watched it grow with new faces and new productions, getting to watch and laugh with Geoff, Michael, Gavin, Ray, Gus, Burnie, Joel, and all the rest, this hurts, and some part of us will always love and miss what Rooster Teeth once was. Second, this was frankly a long time coming. The Rooster Teeth we loved has been dead and gone for a long time now. I can't even tell you when the last time I watched something from them, be it Let's Play, RWBY, RvB, or anything else. Somewhere along the way, whether it was being bought by a corporation, whether it was politics or internal problems, whatever it was, SOMETHING went wrong, and we could all feel it. I think we started to realize it after Monty died and it just kept snowballing from there until now... What we're left with is this flashy facade with nothing of what we once loved behind it. I'll always love my memories of what this company once was, laughing with my sister at Red vs Blue, bonding with my best friend over Minecraft Let's Plays. But that spark I fell in love with is gone now, and looking back, it has been for a long time. It breaks my heart to see it go, but at this point, the Rooster Teeth of the past few years just isn't hanging onto anymore. I do genuinely wish everyone at the company the best of luck, they deserve that much as human beings. But beyond that, I think it's time we just let this ship sink and go out the way we all knew it would for a while now. Not with a triumphant bang, but with a soft, sad whimper. So goodbye, Rooster Teeth. We'll miss the best parts of you.

I think it all started in 2015 when they made their political feelings known heavily and alienated a majority of their fanbase. They forgot that their views are not what we were there to see and every single video they uploaded they forced it down our throats making their videos unwatchable. Then they started diversity hiring people with no talent or humor all for the sake of woke bullshit that proved time and time again to not work. They had people like mice who nobody liked, fiona who was just a slutty cosplayer to drag in views, and so on and so forth. They never really recovered and they kept going down a path not many could follow. Back in 2014 they were pulling in well over a million views per video and by 2019 they couldn't even break 750k let alone 500k views. And by 2022 they couldn't even break 50k on the vast majority of their videos proving that many people lost interest in their content because it became nothing but a left leaning political platform and echo chamber. Add to it that it felt like all the charm was lost when one bad controversy after another started breaking through the cracks and like you said it was a long time coming. Had RT and AH just left the politics alone, had they simply cleaned up their acts and I feel like they would still be a powerhouse to this day. But as they are now I feel like WB is making the only logical choice. RT tried to rebrand and get away from the controversy they have had over the years but it was far to late to cover it all back up and start fresh. The damage was done and the company was a shell of ifs former self. The people we knew and loved were gone for the most part and what we had was a bunch of strangers who replaced those we cared about. Sad to see but it is for the best that they close down. I just hope they all find a way to recover swiftly from this and that nobody has their life destroyed as a result of WB's decision.

Even though I've really not liked what Rooster Teeth turned into, I have never gotten the feeling that he isn't 100% sincere, incredibly kind, and deeply caring about the people in his life, his family, his friends, and his coworkers. He's an exceptional team player, and I while I can't say I personally know him, I never truly will know him in that way, I would be lucky to have someone in my life. He's had his share of struggles and hardships, but he's always had the backs of people who relied on him, and if he's ever thought he didn't do enough or failed someone he cares about? He's made it clear how sorry he is and how he strives to do better. The nicest thing that I think you can say about a person, is that if more people were like them, the world would be a better place. That's how I feel about Geoff from what I've seen. I wish nothing but love for this man. Seeing him face this adversity without fear of being vulnerable, with honesty, and never abandoning the people he's standing shoulder-to-shoulder with, just... bless you, Geoff.

Thank you Jack, Geoff, Gavin, Burnie, Joel, Micheal, Lindsay, Ray, Ryan (sort of), Jeremy, Alfredo, Trevor, Fiona, Gus, Barbara, Miles, and Matt from Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter for making my youth entertaining and giving me countless laughs and nostalgia of good simpler days to hold on to.

Eeeeeeeeh, you can delete Lindsay, Trevor, and Fiona from that list. Lindsay was meh in the early days when she appeared in videos, No idea how she was as an office manager but I can't imagine scatterbrained mouthbreathing was helpful, then she got fat and it made her brain swell into her skull and it just got worse from there. Trevor was always "wAcKY gOoFY dUdE" and it was never my cup of tea, then they gave him WAY too much creative control and quality started to slip. Fiona was straight dogshit start to finish. It went from where did they find this creature to oh and she's not funny, and she's only concerned with doing her own thing, and now the company is dead. Before Geoff started trying to please everyone and offend no one he was awesome, then he turned into a kicked puppy and was just depressing. Jack was always the rock, but then he started leaning into his brain dead politics. Gavin was the young kid who was super focused on his thing, but also just funny and British. Michael, Ray, and Jeremy I think were my absolute favorites, definitely lads through and through. Alfredo was okay but always felt like he thought he was superior and would have been a "world class video gamer" if not for his crippling carpel tunnel, but he wasn't unbearable about it. Matt was the group punching bag so I always felt sorry for him, but kinda like he either earned it or needed to stand up for himself. Burnie and Joel were mostly on the other side of the house but they were smart and interesting. Gus was also more on the Burnie and Joel side of things but he was hilarious. Barbara was always window dressing, but if you could keep her away from braindead takes she was at least inoffensive window dressing. Miles was the Trevor of the other side of the house, but it actually kinda fit there and he wasn't made sole decision maker for new projects. I still maintain that Ryan did nothing wrong. He banged a few fans. If any of them had actually been underage he would be in prison. How it affects his marriage and family isn't our concern as fans of his content. And the man knew how to make good content.

@@TheBakerZen No. My point is the 5 are all that remains of the dozen or so writers/producers/editors that cooked up the magic from 03-15. I have no beef with the modern off camera crew, but they’re a *large* percentage of why I turned away from these guys years ago. They don’t have the same wit, humor, or creativity that the original guys did. It’s not me arbitrarily tying them to the failure. It’s me stating they weren’t able to keep it afloat like the original crew.

It’s still hard to believe that it’s over. I mean, the very first vol. of RWBY was my introduction to Rooster Teeth, and I’ve been a fan ever since. From the multiversal/galactinc hijinxs of Red vs Blue, the awesome fantasy/sci-fi fights and adventures of RWBY to everything else in between, they just made amazing content and always managed to put a smile on my face. However everything always comes to an end, and I know it wont be easy. I honestly don’t know what I’ll miss more; you guys, the amazing content you create, the unfinished stories you had planned for your series (especially RWBY), or maybe all of the above. I know I should feel sad, but I also feel happy that you guys just show how much this means to you and how while it may not be easy, you come to terms with this in some way and I know you guys will do great things in the future. Also Barb is definitely one of favourites; she’s honestly one of my favourite people and she just always finds a way to make me smile…and seeing her like this instead of her usual bright ball of sunshine attitude was just heartbreaking. It was sad to see her like this, but she still showed strength in getting through this tough time. I hope you guys find a way to heal from this and that you go on to achieve great things in the future like I know you all will. You should be proud of your achievements and everything you gave us over the years. Especially you Geoff, you definitely deserve praise for everything you and the team managed to accomplish. Goodbye Rooster Teeth…and Thank You.
