Geocaching Basics: Making a Geocache
Ойын-сауық
Want to hide a geocache? Well, first you need to make one. In this video we'll make a small size geocache using a plastic clip lock container. It is easily done and does not have to cost much money. We'll look at camouflage painting, log book, stash note, and other cache contents.
Happy geocaching!

I like to put a small silica pack in the zippy to decrease the odds of mold :) Great tutorial!
Thanks so much for this video. As a fellow cacher from Australia, I found this very helpful. Happy Caching!!
I like to use an orbital sander with course grit sanding pad, very quick and works a treat. Happy caching :)

XEmeralDQueenX Really glad you liked the video. Having caches of your own in the wild gives the game a whole new dimension. Best wishes, Mark.
Thanks for the handy tips!
I'm so glad I watched your tutorial before we place our caches tomorrow! I had everything together (logbook, swapables, trackables) but completely forgot the 'geo-stash note', so while watching your tutorial, I printed off some, cut them to size and placed them in our caches. Thank you very much for a clear and easy to follow cache guide. It has helped a lot for our caches :)

Glad it helped you Adam, and thanks for letting me know. Happy caching!
Actually this very cache was hidden just yesterday. It was published and found the same day! Cache code is GC3Q2P3 if you want to check it out on the geocaching website. Thanks for watching mate, you are in my thoughts, I hope things are going OK for you.
Very nice. Thanks for teaching me to sand the plastic first to help paint stick.
Hi there from USofA, Michigan more specifically..We just started caching yesterday 9/7/13 :-) I enjoyed your video very much, thanks for all the tips and tricks, it helps out us newbies that haven't a clue how 2 begin lol :-) have a great day!!
very cool. my Mrs has just gotten into geocaching
Another great video, Mark. I haven't gone caching for a month. Too wet and cold here. Its currently 2° but I'm going for a bike ride and then will spend the rest of today geocaching. I'm motivated by your video. :) Cheers from the frozen south.
I would add the following: Always expect moisture to get into the cache container, and keep that in mind when selecting items that go into the cache. Waterproof paper is the go for the log, Officeworks has some great waterproof paper called NU:world, Tough Paper. I got a 160 page A4 book for around $7 and it can be made into all sorts of sheet sizes. It is made from calcium and plastic, one of the best IMHO.
You have some great and really thorough videos. Thanks for all the great tips and ideas!

Thanks for the kind words, glad you like the videos.
Thats a really lovely cache.
Thank you for sharing this - excellent video! During the winter here in Canada, I'd suggest a pencil (the ink in pens freezes up in the winter - I found that out when I tried to sign a logbook two days ago).

Thanks Goran :)
the only thing about the pencil over pen thing was that the pencil caused ventilation issues on the spacecraft as particles of it broke off so it was still a good move on the American's part to design that pen.
No worries Stony, thanks for stopping by.
This is amazing!!! Thank you!!!!! ❤️❤️
Thanks for the follow up!
cool one mate i enjoyed that Thanks
Great Video. Sure helps a lot!

or look at amazon - once you find your local product (here in germany it's called "Lock&Lock") you can find them in your local store - or find a cheaper version. Just look that the clips are not one piece with the box - they will break sometime.
Nice vid, ManicMark!
These are a brand called Systema (Made in New Zealand). They are available is supermarkets here.
Nice one, Mark.
Cheers mate!
Great video and tipps, gonna use that for my first own geocache! :D

Hi mate, I'm no GPSr expert, and I have onyl used Garmin myself. I've got a 550 Oregon which I love, paperless caching etc. I'm just on the west side of BrisVegas. If you are near Brissie a good shop and website for GPS is Johnny Appleseed. The site is great for comparing different makes and models and most importanly, prices.
That's pretty damn cold, good sleeping in weather. Sure does make it hard to drag yourself out to go hunting tupperware lol. Thanks for watching mate :)
thaks!
i don't sand them - i use primer (for priming plastic parts on cars) - a lot of this sort of boxes are outside (+4 years so far) and they are still good.
How do u put it on the app

+Kylie Mann You have to submit it on the geocaching website.
hmm very nice vidio did very cheap and good .....but instead of cutting..,,making new short pen,, u cud prefer for a small size pens in shop!
I read a tutorial online somewhere that detailed the finer points of the art. It would be more fun to just attack it with a machete, but the pen may not work as well afterwards :)
Welcome to Geocaching :)
Sounds like an ideal caache container to me lol. As for the bluing check out my BK2 mod vid :) I think the same thing would work great on the SP-47
Where can you find those clip lock containers?
Why didn't you just buy a short pen? By the way, nice tutorial!
Why thankyou Mr ATF sir ;)
8 year anniversary for this video lol
they have to be clear so ppl can see inside
Seriously! Sounds like it's becoming quite the police state, to me thats going too far. Anyway, glad you liked the video my friend. Best wishes :)
Has anyone found your cache?

kaitlyn lawrence That would take a whole new video, but it's quite easy. Just follow the instruction under "Play > Hide a Geocache" and you should be OK.
