Geocaching Basics: Making a Geocache

Ойын-сауық

Want to hide a geocache? Well, first you need to make one. In this video we'll make a small size geocache using a plastic clip lock container. It is easily done and does not have to cost much money. We'll look at camouflage painting, log book, stash note, and other cache contents.
Happy geocaching!

I like to put a small silica pack in the zippy to decrease the odds of mold :) Great tutorial!

I'm so glad I watched your tutorial before we place our caches tomorrow! I had everything together (logbook, swapables, trackables) but completely forgot the 'geo-stash note', so while watching your tutorial, I printed off some, cut them to size and placed them in our caches. Thank you very much for a clear and easy to follow cache guide. It has helped a lot for our caches :)

Another great video, Mark. I haven't gone caching for a month. Too wet and cold here. Its currently 2° but I'm going for a bike ride and then will spend the rest of today geocaching. I'm motivated by your video. :) Cheers from the frozen south.

I would add the following: Always expect moisture to get into the cache container, and keep that in mind when selecting items that go into the cache. Waterproof paper is the go for the log, Officeworks has some great waterproof paper called NU:world, Tough Paper. I got a 160 page A4 book for around $7 and it can be made into all sorts of sheet sizes. It is made from calcium and plastic, one of the best IMHO.

Thank you for sharing this - excellent video! During the winter here in Canada, I'd suggest a pencil (the ink in pens freezes up in the winter - I found that out when I tried to sign a logbook two days ago).

the only thing about the pencil over pen thing was that the pencil caused ventilation issues on the spacecraft as particles of it broke off so it was still a good move on the American's part to design that pen.

or look at amazon - once you find your local product (here in germany it's called "Lock&Lock") you can find them in your local store - or find a cheaper version. Just look that the clips are not one piece with the box - they will break sometime.

Hi mate, I'm no GPSr expert, and I have onyl used Garmin myself. I've got a 550 Oregon which I love, paperless caching etc. I'm just on the west side of BrisVegas. If you are near Brissie a good shop and website for GPS is Johnny Appleseed. The site is great for comparing different makes and models and most importanly, prices.

I read a tutorial online somewhere that detailed the finer points of the art. It would be more fun to just attack it with a machete, but the pen may not work as well afterwards :)
