I think I've got husband saving his soda bottles for me now finally. I have almost 250 hides. many creative ones. I enjoy your channel. I cached for 3 years and finally the husband is caching while he used to say I needed an "intervention " hahaha

I was a little obsessed at first as well... turned my kids off of geocaching. My wife has never been interested... she is not much for outdoor activity. I have slowed down a lot over the past two years, especially since I keep the area around my usual sphere of travel pretty clear of unfound caches. Thanks so much for watching my videos and leaving comments... I love it!

I've never created one of those, but have found quite a few. In Florida, where we get lots of rain, they do get wet inside if people don't tighten the cap tight enough. Thanks for sharing how to make one.

dgas71 Excellent... glad to hear it worked as well for you as it does for me. My wife drinks Diet Coke and we save the caps for the Coke rewards points, so I always have plenty of extra caps around. When I am out in the garage, I can grab a bottle out of recycling and knock one of these out in about a minute. I have over a dozen of them out in the wild and I just don't have any maintenance issues. It can take a bit of practice getting the cut straight and at the right length so the cap snaps on perfectly and tightly. Like I said in the video, if it doesn't, I just try another bottle... water will get in if there is a gap. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I like that, there are some geocachers in our area that make those for hiding around lakes for boat/kayak geocaches. I like your method, it looks easier to make!

kennysart I gather up soda bottles and caps and every once in awhile I will go out to the garage and knock a couple of these out. Takes me just over a minute to make one of these... very quick and easy, and unless you really get a bad cut, the cap that you snap on to the cut end stays very tight and the cache is perfectly water proof. I really like that there is no glue involved... snap on the cap and the cache is ready! Thanks for watching and commenting Kenny :)

I made one with Powerade caps. They don’t seal though, you have to use some epoxy or glue. Thanks for the ideas!

Good question. For cutting, you could stand on the bottle at the edge of a step or on top of a few boards or something. You could also use a heavy pair of scissors to make your cut rather than a hack saw. In terms of forcing the cap on, I have used my body weight rather than the vice. The trick is getting the cut right and then arranging the cap and the cut bottle on the ground so that when you step on it, it forces the cap on straight. I actually used to do it that way... the vice just makes it easier to force it on straight. Thanks for watching, happy caching!

Awesome tutorial. Did one today. Tough to make if you don't have that pressing thing. I had to bend the edges of the neck a little bit to the inside to make it fit, and then it wasn't waterproof. So I assembled it with superglue and then put some on the edge of the cap that goes on the neck, not the one that screws. Problem solved. Thanks!!

Sorry your first attempt wasn't successful. If you have to bend the edges in, you are cutting it too long. Try cutting a bit shorter. In terms of not having a bench top vice, what I used to do is put the cap on the ground, set your cut off bottle top on top of it, and then step down on it with your heel putting your entire weight on it. I have dozens of these and they are all waterproof, way faster to make without glue. Try it again and let me know how you come out. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

When you scrape the top of the bottle on the drive way could you use sand paper?

Definitely... my driveway works very well as a rather rough sandpaper for managing a rather poor cut, but you could use sandpaper for sure... just might take a little more effort depending on the grade of sandpaper and how well you made your cut initially. This is very cool. I was wondering how they did they. I like it! I have a rat & was trying to figure out how to get the bison tube to stay. This will work great. I have 16 caches out & plan to make some more. I make bigger ones for the children too. =D So glad you put this video up BIG HUGS

It is a little trickier, but I have also had success forcing the cap onto the cut end by placing it on the concrete garage floor and using the heel of my shoe to slowly shift my weight onto the cap. Hope that is helpful... happy caching!

I think I found it... the King of Random: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pX53ltCggdm3frw.html ... what I don't like about this method is that it requires glue. Instead of using the tops of two bottles, I make my cut below the neck ring, at about the depth of another cap. If you saw slowly and keep your cut relatively straight, the natural curve of the bottle below the neck ring allows the second cap to snap on tight and seals without glue. Much quicker to make, avoids the cost of buying a good epoxy, and instantly ready without waiting hours for drying time. Try it!

These containers are NOT water/air tight. I've had to use super glue or epoxy to make it so.

So confused. Why are people signing pieces of paper instead of using NFC or RFID technology for digital signatures and PDF "treasure" downloads. We could be leaving digital gift cards to restaurants etc as treasure.
