    I used this to help me with my first hide. Today I am doing my second in a rock cave in a state park. My cache container is a faux rock that blends right in with the environment. You have to hike a mile to get to it. Can't wait to see who finds it if any!! I will post the cache ID here once I get it set up. I am in Fair Hill MD. USA.

    Thanks Seemyshell for a very informative video. It's nice to see you spreading the word on developing a better class of Geocache than some of the thousands of meaningless caches we come across. We haven't been very active in recent times but hopefully we'll crank it up again since we've had a request from the local shire to get some out there. I don't know if I have the time and energy to develop those mechanical geocaches as we've placed before but we'll see how we go.

    Before my hiatus from geocaching I had 6 hides and about 25 finds. I enjoyed the hide more than the hunt. Also I was living in Cairns and there are so many awesome spots there. That covers most of it. A fair number of beginners try to use the compass app or get coords in a format like dd.dddd or dd.mm.ss rather than dd mm.mmm and wonder why their coords are off. If you do another video covering editing the listing would you add something about formats and conversions. (Not using an online conversion site. The old fashioned way with a bit of maths.)

    I haven't gotten to the 100 caches yet but I watched this so I know what to keep in mind when I do. This was very helpful. Do you think cookie tins would be good cache containers in a temperate climate? I accumulated a lot of them cause I'm a pack rat lol, but if they would be sufficient for a cache then maybe I'll get some use out of them. I'm really enjoying finding geocaches so far and I'm looking forward to hiding some :)

    Thanks for watching, be careful with any metal container like tins, as they rust easily and are not water resistant, you don’t want the good swag or logbook to get wet and moldy. Maybe try one on your backyard for a month or two and see how it stands up to the elements. Cheers 🍻

    I’ve found urban ones are harder to maintain and keep in order. I’ve got 100+ hides and there is one at the end of a street under rocks... it’s gone missing twice in around 3 months. Most of mine are along bush tracks and they have remained secure.

    Yes, the muggle factor is very real when it comes urban hides. They must be hidden well. Also, unfortunately, beginner geocachers like kids who only use the free app, are somewhat prone to not knowing the whole game. Making your hide "premium" will sometimes help.

    9:16 in the video mate, I go through what needs to be placed in the reviewer note. Hint - tell them EVERYTHING about the hide, what it is, where it is, how did you get the coords, what is in the cache etc. If it’s your first hide, you will more than likely get a ‘Re-submit’ from the reviewer, don’t get disheartened, just answer the questions they may ask you. Good luck. 🍀

    It’s recommended you find at lest 100 caches first, to get a good idea of what and how caches can be hidden. Work with your reviewer to get the most out of hiding.

    I always find a hiding spot, get the coords, built the container, then when placing check the coords again. After that point you create the listing. You should never submit the listing until the container has been placed.

  • @TheAussieGeocacherSeemyshell

    @TheAussieGeocacherSeemyshell

    3 жыл бұрын

    This is a great question. HQ's stance is vague, but the average geocacher prefers around 100 finds before placing one. This allows you a good array of finds, types, and locations. Always hide a geocache for a reason and not just because there isn't one at that location. Always get good coordinates. Ref - video on how to get good coords, even with a phone. Hope this helps mate. Cheers

    I have always been known as 'Seemyshell' since I was a teenager, so it was a natural connection that I use 'Seemyshell'. Its a wonderful hobby and its good to promote it on social media, so people know more about it. The only advice I would give is not stating exact GC codes of caches and gaining permission from Cache Owners if you want to record their hides. Cheers

    That's what I am sayin'. I don't want some new guy/gal learning the ropes from some shlub that never really played the game and isn't really a geocacher. I should have posted screenshots when I ranted on that tweet :/ Coincidentally, I am also moving, in the middle of July. Only about 30 minutes west of where I am currently, though. I'd still meet up, and have spare mountain bikes and an extra kayak. Two words for you: Pine Barrens.
