Gear Review: Petzl Bindi vs NU 25 (Nitecore)

Ойын-сауық

2 Backpackers, 2 Headlamps. Which one do we like best? My daughter and I used the Petzl Bindi and the Nitecore NU25 on backpacking trip and then a camping trip the week after. We have some thoughts on both. G jumps in more about 2/3 through the video. Do you want to see more Father/Daughter reviews and videos? Let me know in the comments section.

The Petzl Bindi weighs 35g (probably including the cord) and has a 680 mAh battery. The battery life and short reach of the light beam makes me consider this a great choice for using around camp, but NOT for exploring new trails during night time..! Many trails have sections where the trail is barely visible during day time, so when im out night hiking, i like to bring 1 somewhat powerful flashlight, 1 smaller flashlight as backup, a GPS device for pinpointing my position, and a compass hanging around my neck for quick access while navigating. - 50 hours of 6 lumen (6 meter) - 3hours of 100 lumen (23 meter) - 2 hours of 200 lumen (36 meter) The NU25 weighs 28g (probably not including headband), and has a 610 mAh battery. This is less mAh than the Petzl Bindi, but either this has MUCH better power efficiency, or it uses a higher voltage battery, which gives a higher Wh, and which would explain the substantially higher performance and battery life. With the "boost" setting, this light reaches 2,25 times as long as the Petzl Bindi - so depending on your skills and what trail you want to go, you may actually make it out alive, LOL! The battery life is still too limiting for really long night hikes though: - 160 hours of 1 lumen (3,6 meter) - 8 hours of 38 lumen (27 meter) - 5 hours of 190 lumen (61 meter) - 30 minutes of 360 lumen (81 meters) The bigger NU32 weighs 76g (100g with headband), and has a big 1800 mAh battery; which should be enough for a full weekend of night hiking..! Using the 190 lumen setting for 6 hours, 2 nights in a row, you would still have 30% of the battery left. Thats enough for 15 hours on the 33 lumen setting, which should be enough to cover all your needs around camp for the rest of the weekend..! - 330 hours of 1 lumen (5 meter) - 50 hours of 33 lumen (25 meter) - 17 hours of 190 lumen (77meter) - 1 hour of 550lumen (125 meter)

On the Nitecore NU25, the third red light (flashing red light) is reached by pushing the red light button three times. The fourth white light option is reached by pushing and holding the white light button. By pushing and holding the red light button, you get the battery level of the light. All this information is in the instructions for the Nitecore NU25.

Awesome comparison, I recently got the bindi but as a backup headlamp. My primary headlamp is the olight perun mini. 1000 lumens max higher IPX8 water resistant and magnetic rechargeable only 1.83 oz. All metal construction with a replaceable battery. 👍

I like the idea of using a headlamp on a water bottle...that is actually brilliant...as when I wear a headlamp I usually end up with a headache...but I do have another that clips on a ball cap...but is really not much good if I have to wear a toque...thanks for the review...

Good review. I don't think the Nitecore would last 5hr at 190lumens (despite what the packaging says). Still probably more usable light than the petzl, but neither would be the best choice for serious night hiking.
