Caver here. I really like zebralights. They mostly make 18650 headlamps that are going to be heavier but are crazy durable (and super waterproof), have great runtimes, have a high CRI for photography, and are super bright (their $90 models go up to 1,500 lumens). They're my goto for hiking/general purpose. I also have the black diamond and the cheaper petzl in the video. Theyre both solid but aren't as bright and as they're batteries deplete they get dimmer. I do like the glow ring on the petzl for finding the headlamp after setting it down when it's off.

I used Petzl for years - I still have a Tikka from 2005 in a drawer somewhere - but recently I picked up a Zebralight H603w, and a Nitecore NU33. The Zebralight has a very broad beam so it's good in enclosed spaces, or when I'm out with a vehicle that has its own headlights, but the Nitecore has a perfect blend of features for hiking and backpacking. It's possibly a little heavier than you'd like.

I upgraded to a NITECORE NU43 Lightweight USB-C Rechargeable Headlamp - 1400 Lumens. Im not into lugging batteries and I'm definitely tired of carrying multiple cables. Everything is now USB C.

Cool preview! Nitecore has some good selection of small headlamps also, but my recent personal favorite is Skilhunt H150. It runs on 1AA, has no red light, but has very nice warmish tint and good color rendering index (high CRI led bulb). I'm sort of "tint noob", as when colors are well differentiated one can see much more details and better 3D depth, imho.

Audio wouldn’t work at all when I tried to watch on my tv

Just found your channel, nice video. Hiking the AT last year the Nitecore headlamps seemed to be the most popular. I didn’t do any night hiking except to the privy .

I also have the Petzl Actic Core and it never let me down.

Petzl Actik Core all day ! Love the functions, beam and brightness levels.

Fenix has a great line of head lamps i own a fenix HM71r a i enjoy using it.

I think the BD Spot is a good mid range option thats reliable

My wallet and sanity thank you. My kids go on multi-day camping trips as part of the experiential learning at their school. My immediate instinct is to buy the most expensive, top-of-the-line because...my kids. But based on what they're actually doing/not doing and when, it sounds like they'll be just fine with something less expensive.

Ahh I’m so glad this helps! That’s really neat their school does that - what incredible life experience to get at an early age. Yes! Something cheap will totally do the trick, a red light is a nice feature if you’re going multi day and still plenty of cheap options with that feature!

it is a shopping habit for too many people. gimmicks and gadgets instead of tools, skills and knowledge.

Hey friend, I don't disagree with you as we live in a capitalist society, and could see how you could assume this. I run an outfitter and am a backpacking guide, so I've had to invest in different gear for my clients to use, which is why I've been making these videos because I do have to test out a lot of gear (at different price points) for my job

I haven't heard of them before!

I bought the spot today for $50 because it said dual fuel but then found out once I got home that the battery was not in it and I had to spend another $30. I’m taking it back. Don’t waste my time black diamond.
