#keybored Gateron's New UHMWPE Switch! Into the UHMKnown!
I feel like it's been a while since Gateron released a new switch. Especially one with an UHMWPE stem. Well... it's here now. It's called the UHMKnown. I know, Gateron can make some good switches, but don't know how to name them tho. If it has an UHMWPE stem, it must be smooth and deep right? Let's find out!

Always killing it with the intros!! Love seeing another switch review from you Scott, thanks for the time and energy you put into these! I didn’t know the oil kings had polished stems, very interesting!
The Switch Comparisons chart really helps a lot on deciding which switch to get based on personal preference in detail. Thanks a lot for that Keybored.
Awesome intro! Thanks for the review as well. Was interested in these switches but was concerned about the similarities to the oil kings. Watching the review helped me out in terms of deciding on sticking with the kings for the the next build. Thanks Scott!

Yup, they are similar, but also a bit different. Oil Kings for that silky smoothness, and UHMknowns for that extra poppy sound
Thanks to you, I got into keyboards, and recently got a 1800 Compact w/ Akko CS Jelly Purple. HOLY CRAP ARE THEY GOOD TO TYPE ON! Thank you so much keybored for great content, and generally inspiring me to dwell into this hobby ^^
best keyboard content on youtube hands down. redefining what it means to review and analyze keyboards and their components. i’ve learned so much from the videos you put out. keep it up, man!
Scott, miss these switch review videos! Thanks again!
You're the absolute best Scott, glad the chart is back - love all the info, absolute best!
The chart at the end of this video confirms my buying decisions for my first board, can't wait for my Oil Kings to show up. Thanks for the video!
Miss your switch reviews, I'm happy to see a new one!
LOL I like the frozen bit, also kinda funny how you took the switch name and ran with the frozen bit instead of the Pokemon Unknown hints Divinikey was rolling with when they designed it.

I was interested in these after seeing the teaser from Divinikey the other day. Great video and analysis, I appreciate the information you fit into your videos. I might just have to pick these up for my Frog Mini!

I purchased some from novelkeys. I just had a pretty piss poor experience with the voice mini and divinikey has yet to replay to 2 of my tickets after over 1 week
God damn, Scott 😂 I was definitely *not* ready for that intro! I was looking at this switch not 5 hours ago and thought to myself: I'm going to see if someone has a review already up. Thanks for the laugh, man. I really needed it today.
Now I'm going to need to measure the frequency spectrum of all my current and future keyboard builds. I didn't realize I wanted to know this information until this video.
Amazing and super objective vid as always
Hi Scott, love your videos buddy!
I really appreciate the comparison chart, which cannot be a small amount of effort.
Thanks for another great review!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Thanks for giving us another banger video, keybored! It was so informative that now I, too, wish a random asian man would sing into the unknown in my bathroom every time I type on my keyboard
I already bought and received 90 of these new UHMknown switches too, been waiting for someone to do a review! I’m gonna use them stock because I tend to be heavy-handed with lube brushes so I don’t want to make these sound like every other lubed linear I own. Gonna leave stock so I don’t ruin the sound profile, they sound great on my Sonnet and I can’t wait to try them on my Chimera 65 R2 when it comes in this December.
The Oil Kings are very nice for out of the box no tweaking switch.
Oh my... The intro is beautiful
Awesome video Scott 🔥🔥 will you have a Zoom 75 video?
great video as always! everytime i watch a comparison including the oil king i think: i should finally get these. i just love the sound and stock feel. BUT i hate how they almost dont let through a n y light. it looks like the rgb is broken. the UHMWPE dont look like an alternative. any advice or ideas ? switching the top housing to a clear one is my only idea, which sounds expensive...
I’ve gotta check these out!
Gonna need a full cover after that intro, Scott.
Those decible charts and side-by-side ranking charts are the best thing I've seen in this hobby since the first time I laid eyes on a force curve. PLEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSEEEEEEEEEEE do it for the deepest sounding tactile switches, now. Maybe the highest sounding ones too but I think us tactile people also need some help in our search for deep sounding switches. PLLEEEEAAASE. My wife would be so happy if I could stop staying up late researching switches.
Your content are amazing and i like the the funny aspect in them
Lately I've been binging all your switch reviews and I love the comparison chart! Really helps what narrow down what I'm looking for. At the current moment, would you say that the cap v2 milky yellows are better value than ink v2s, or are they worth the extra price?
That space bar sound is THE SHIT
these uhmwpe stems self-lubricate and smooth out better and faster than other stems it seems like, based off experience with these and hippos etc
Love your content, also what keyboard and switches/keycaps do you use? And which switches do you recommend?
I live in Colorado and it reminds me how they name new weed strains 😂
most Sane intro 💀

:) Haha Thanks
Interesting. If they release the stem polished, or at lest lubed, it is probably gonna be really smooth. The material itself should have considerably less friction.
hey Scott, great video as usual! Would it be possible for you to have something like a switch comparison website where a chart similar to the one shown in the video containing all the different switches that you have tested yourself? (I could get involved on the technical side of this project if you are interested in proceeding with it!) Edit: For reference, my idea was something like the crinacle headphone ranking website but for switches
@YaroLord

not trying to be rude but that sounds like a monumental waste of time; if you've been in this hobby long enough, you would already know that switches (especially linears) have an abysmally low contribution to keyboard sound; most of the sound in your keyboard is decided by the keycaps/plate/case material. If you test "just the switch", it won't accurately reflect what the user will hear... if you test with the same keycaps/plate/case material, it won't be accurate either because we have a myriad of different keyboards, with different plate options and sometimes materials as well (certain kits are available in alu casing as well as pc casing)... just imagining the insane amount of work that your little harmless request would take, and FOR FREE, no less (ofc because you obviously expect him to do it for free)... i'm not sure if you're just ingenuous or straight up disrespectful

@@YaroLord I agree with your point on the sound but a switch could very much shift the way a board sounds and I think that is what Scott brings our attention into in the first place. And also, there are several other factors which Scott brings into our attention other than the sound in the videos like smoothness, stem wobble, etc which could be objectively trackee as he mentioned. Also, as to the maintaining the website being a lot of work, my desgin idea for the website was to just add a new data file (and not any code) for every new switch that he tests. So he would just have to do some data entry in that case. I myself offered help in building the website in the first place because apart from it being an obvious reference point for keyboard purchases, it would help me learn regarding web design and stuff. (I would rather open source the website itself without the data and let people contribute if they are interested.) And as to it being a waste of time, there are lots of people who would just consider being a keyboard enthusiast a waste of time.

@@tem_mm ah didnt know that there was a website dedicated for switch review. Maybe a comparison chart in that website (kinda like what Scott does in his switch review videos) would have made it perfect for me! Anyway, thanks for pointing out!
Really wish we would have seen the Zeal Perlio in there for comparison. Interesting that you found that lubing helped, I felt it made the Pearlios worse.
loved the video, tbh switch reviews have gotten kinda redundant because they have gotten so good, i still really enjoy watching well produced and polished reviews :)
That intro had me wheezing man HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
Have you had a chance to try out WS Quartz? These were the deepest sounding switches I've used and I'm an oil king lover lol
Great video. Looks like the recent trend of gateron reserving its best/newest housing molds for its in house switches continues. Its understandable but disappointing given these cool and interesting designs coming out could be just that much even better.
You should check out the newer mid range gateron like the Pure Berry or the Modern Gray. Also the SwK Owllab Neon and Outva Yang
Would you be able to do a review of the Gateron Mizu Mink switches ? I haven't come across anything more than a sound test. I would be so greqtful
Why is this video introducing the UHMKnowns making me want to buy a set of gateron oil kings lol
@7:30 When you put "Gateron Oil King Lubed"; did you lube them, or are you referring to the factory lube?
A little request, I'd li ke you to review a budget keyboard. So uhh I'd like to know more about the FL e-sports MK750. It's a 75% budget keyboard with unbelievable specs for the price of 70$ ish, so before I build out my second custom build of my life, I'd like to ask for your help to review this keyboard with a switch with a price similar to tecsee carrots. I'm a linear fan too and I love your intros :D
Can you do a video on the Gateron Luciolas? I love them, but would love to hear your perspective
Do you do the wobble test with the switch completely depressed as well? I notice wobble the most when I'm holding down a key, like the CTRL key, rather than when it's at the top.
Uhmknown is a refrence to pokemon umknown, which is what the color is based on.
You should definitely review the YUNZII yz75
Can you make a comparison on tactile switches as well?

What are stem cuts for
I read it as the UHM-wipe switch at first 😂
I find that Gateron's uhmwpe stems polish out much faster than a regular pom stem during use. No scientific evidence, but using the Hippos for a short while made me realize how different the switches felt compared to when I first recieved them. To be fair, this attribute applies to literally every switch out there with a lot of usage in them, but I just thought it noteworthy to mention how fast Gateron's uhmwpe stems wear down and smoothen out compared to the competition. Also, may I suggest when comparing sound signatures between switches, that you choose similar stem lengths? You should probably know by now how different a long pole switch sounds in comparison to a normal pole switch. Just a humble suggestion!
I thought these were meant to be long spring, around 20mm or so?
no mention of the cj's?
what switches were those in the skit
Gateron yellow still the king of budget switches i guess
will you try the gateron root beer float?
Is it Emirates Business class hair comb? 😂
These are way way better than the Oil Peasants lol
oil kings is the winner for me
I thought the name was after the Pokemon! Also, at 20mm, aren't the spring considered long spring or "slow spring" as opposed to more standard ~15mm springs

I'm new to mech boards in general and I only have a cheap one that I got on Amazon (but that is so much better than the cheap membrane board I had before that I'm very happy with it, even if it was only $30..hey, it's hot swappable at least, but that lack of optical options means it's basically only hot swappable with the limted Gateron Optical options, and I have the blacks, if anything, I'd maybe like a heavier switch)...I'm wondering if there is a way for me to frankenstein my own optical switches or are there too many differences between them and regular mechs? I'm pretty sure I can at least swap out the springs for something a bit heavier if I wanted, but again, not really sure about any of this. I'll have to go through your vids and see if you have anything on that.
