Gas Grill vs Charcoal Grill - Which is Better?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Gas Grill vs Charcoal. The battle of the ages. Is Charcoal grills better than gas grills? Which is better? In this video, we test out both grills a few different experiences. The first test, we use a temp gun to see which pan gets hotter faster. The second test, we grill two new york strip steaks and do a blind taste test. Lastly, we do a test doing low and slow pork ribs and share our final review.

    My girlfriend and I have finally moved into a place with some patio space and I’ve been bugging that I want a grill. I have a propane tank already and was leaning towards convenience of a gas grill, but thanks to this video I’m really starting to lean towards charcoal. We love having guests, and so I’ve always had the thought of hosting really great cookouts in my mind. I love how you got your family involved in the comparisons, and I think for me, your daughters saying they loved the charcoal taste over the gas was probably the biggest point that could have been made. Of course in the future I plan to be cooking for my own family for events, and if I’m going to learn, I think it’s gonna have to be the ol’ fashioned charcoal way. Thanks a lot for this video! Glad I came across it.

    Thanks for watching. Yeah, I was using both for a long time but recently went all charcoal. That is mainly because of the experience I wanted to have and master. If you want convenience, then gas or pellet smoking might be an option. But, with fire torches you can get your charcoal fully lot a lot faster. Something to consider before you go all charcoal, is what kind of cooking experience do you want and what type of these will you be cooking.

I mean if I wanna cook steak using gas, may as well use cast iron skillet so I can butter paste with garlic and thyme which infuse more flavor. Also I do t have to clean the grate. I was charcoal for my entire life until last summer when my wife got me a gas grill. The convenience factor sold me on gas. I can fire up, clean, and cook in the time it took for my coals to be ready to cook. The only trouble I'm dealing with right now is cooking high-fat content meat (like burgers or sausages) without catching the grease on fire. Do you have any tips for that?

  • @BartlowsBBQ

    @BartlowsBBQ

    3 жыл бұрын

    I totally understand the convenience factor of gas grills! A few things to check out with flare ups on the gas grill. Be sure to empty the grease pan regularly as that builds up and doesn't take much to ignite a fire. Be sure to scrap off the crud from the heat / flame flour protectors under grill grate. Left over droppings are ready to ignite on your next cook. Be sure to pull out the silver tray underneath all of that to clean too. Some folks like to lay down foil on that silver lining of catch pan. Some like grill mates or grill grate company has cool grill grates with less holes for things to fall through.

    Propane and electric grill well out beat charcoal grill, specially dealing with heat, propane and electric grill, they heat up better and the heat is balance whole charcoal grill heat is unbalance. Propane grill is little better when you’re traveling you do not have to clean up dealing with charcoal and charcoal has too much chemical and it is not natural if anyone plan to use a non-guys or either a non-electronic grill the best one to use is the one where you burn wood 🪵 with in it. 🙏🏾

Gas grills are decent cooking machines and don’t take a lot of start-up time or clean-up. Now my kids are living their own lives and I have more time to “tend the fire”. funny thing is if your a guy who uses charcoal, and strike up a conversation with someone who uses gas, you may be at a loss for words. Same goes with the "set-it-and-forget-it" pellet grill guys. All I can say is "at least your doing it" That being said, if you have ever noticed almost all competition cookers/chefs use charcoal. Reason being is you have more variables to tweak the outcome of the finished product. You can't do a "snake method" with gas. And there's only one way to smoke with gas. There's no glory in pellet grills, because you're not really tending the food. Charcoal needs no external power, such as gas or electricity, so if your good at using charcoal, you can cook anywhere, and even use an inexpensive table top grill, even sneaking in wood chips from time to time to smoke. Pellet grills can cavitate, while your away, and you lose all heat. Sometimes in conversation if someone says they use gas or a pellet smoker, I tell them I do it the hard way. From what I have noticed, is that most guys who like to cook, or are gourmet, or chefs, use charcoal, and/or wood. I personally like to cook and am very picky about my finished product. Example: Hand cut vs. machine. "Yes!" It takes more time. But it's about the finished product. You may get some serious results with gas, but your friends and family are not going to criticize you. I don't want false gratification, and I will also admit, I have screwed up a lot of food. But I have also got some of the best and most sincere compliments to some of my preparations, and have even exceeded some methods used by champions. There's a little science involved. Use whatever you want. Gas is easy, and so are pellet grills. But if you have time and want to get really deep into the art of grilling, BBQ'ing, smoking, or whatever you want to call it, you will have more variables using charcoal and wood. One more thing is if you can learn to mix your own spices for rubs and apply them in a good fashion, you may be a competitor. It all takes time, and a little trial and error. Just do what ever you want, but "do-it-yourself"

    @@barbs1298 With limited space I might recommend something different. It depends on if you want gas, pellet or charcoal. Portable table top pellet / charcoal grill is a great solution in addition to small gas grill. Google portable grills/ smokers and you will see all the brand options. If you want something small but has wheels then a weber is solid, kamado junior i showed in this video is small for your context. The next gas grill is solid for the price. All depends on gas, pellet or charcoal preference.

    Gas BBQs can never ever compare to the taste of a true Charcoal BBQ. In my town the gas berbecues are not even called barbecue, its just called Gas Grill. Like pork ribs on a gas BBQ is called "Grilled Pork" while pork ribs on a charcoal BBQ is just called "Barbecue Pork".

    funny thing is if your a guy who uses charcoal, and strike up a conversation with someone who uses gas, you may be at a loss for words.

    Thanks for the thoughts...I spent most of my life on a gas grill but then after researching doing bbq, I have switched to charcoal years and years ago. I agree, as kong as your just doing it that is what matters to bring you joy. I would agree, charcoal / wood live fire offers a lot of versatility! Thanks for watching & supporting the channel!
