Gas grill with volcanic rocks, and with a homemade smoke bag made out of aluminum foil (filled with dry beech chips, and only 1 small hole pierced) is the compromise I often go to. Gets a better flavor than just plain gas with no smoker chips or than just relying on the flavorizer bars. Volcanic rocks add to the flavor infusion especially if they are a little greasy and 'dirty' from previous sessions - but not overly grimy however.

As a carnivore, I grill steaks 2-3 times a week (or more), so I find it more practical using gas, since it is faster, cheaper, no smoke, less waste (when using charcoal a lot of it remains as waste), and the flavor is great. Do not read me wrong, I also have two charcoal grills because I love the flavor too.

(im Falle des Gas-Grillers jedoch sehr stark)- dass dennoch der Rauchgeschmack von Kohlen etwas Spezielles hat... mag wohl den Ausschlag gegeben haben. Zu sehen war es nicht ... :-)

Hold on a sec. He dipped the charcoal steak in the drippings, but didnt do the same on the gas grilled steak. Also, Kyle never said the charcoal was better, only that he noticed a difference. And he also used better words to describe the the gas grilled. At best we can say that if we assume that Kyle had the same nice things to say about the charcoal as he said about the gas grilled, then the only thing we get out of this is that they are different, and "not at first" and something about "you can tell in the smell". I don't know.
