Sixty years ago in Edinburgh I was attending a golf tournament so that I could watch a young Gary Player, whose reputation was just beginning to grow. It was a Saturday, but he was not really in contention so there was only a small group following him. In those days there were no ropes and you could get quite close to the golfers. He chatted with us between shots and shot 66. Great experience.

I started to practice the stepover move taught by Player, and my wedge accuracy has improved 100%. I think more about the proper way to move my body instead of trying to steer the club. Thinking about stepping over with the right leg after the swing, towards the target, keeps my arms moving and releases tension and makes me more fluid through the ball.

It's funny how much Gary was hitting on some of the main principles Mo Norman used to ramble about like not a lot of hip turn ("I'm not a believer in hip turn") which Mo also didn't see the need for either, and the importance of extension through the ball smacked of when Mo talked about keeping the club on the target line for as long as possible after impact. Amazing how you hear the same things repeated, maybe in different ways with different wording and varying degrees of importance but that keeps learning about the game almost as fun as playing on the course.

Mr. Gary Player has been my lifelong golf and sports idol since 1966, when I was 10 years old. He inspired me to learn the game and become a 9 handicapper, and practice, practice, practice to improve your game. It would be a dream for Mr. Player to one day visit my home in Uncasville, CT and see my mini golf course that has a sand bunker(22 ft. X 25 ft. X 5 ft. deep) next to a golf green with an official hole and flag. I call it my Gary Player Golf Bunker and it took me over 4+ years to dig and build all with hand tools!.. If you can, please give me Mr. Player's contact info for if I could meet one person on this Earth, it would be my favorite and inspirational person, Mr. Gary Player☺♥.

To finish my comment, Byron Nelson was often referred to "As the Father of the Modern Swing. The "Iron Byron" testing machine was named in his honor. Before his early retirement at 34, Nelson was perhaps the most accurate player in history. Nelson did this by employing a dipping "Rocking Chair Motion" that kept his legs moving through the hitting area. Not through a braced left side. This movement kept the club online longer than any player recorded before that time. Or perhaps since. Rotating, flowing extension is the "Golden Ticket" to great golf. If all the "Wannabes" ever perfected this movement, look out golf world.

It’s flawed and it’s not. Let’s take a basketball shooting coach for example. There are different methods but why choose a teacher that’s hasn’t had proven success? If your not good or demonstrated you can’t make anyone good then proceed with extreme caution.

If you want to see the "Real Modern Swing, "Just go back in Time!!" There is nobody alive now that swings the golf club as well as Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus or Lee Trevino at their peak. Especially under pressure!! Certainly Gary Player belongs somewhere in this illustrious group as well. Look at the record books. These men won more than anyone else. While playing more consistently than anyone else in history. While Gary Player is definitely "An Acquired Taste," his knowledge of the golf swing is irrefutable. His greatest "Pearl of Wisdom" in this video is debunking the fallacy that the golf swing rotates all the way through EVEN BEFORE IMPACT. History's greatest players rotated to square and stayed there longer than anyone else. BUT THEY KEPT MOVING AFTER THE STRIKE

Hi Christo I believe the athletic stance of lowering your upper body with with your thigh muscles bending your knees and your foot placed firmly on the ground was one of Ben Hogan’s 5 lessons. So to me feeling a heavy buttocks as if I am siring on a stool is very important every time I set up to my ball. And at age 75 the or any age quickness of one hips is dictated by ones age and so I never advice anyone to challenge that. Cheers👍🥂😊👌

Any so-called fundamental can be contradicted by observing different pros. Gary Player is a great golfer but there are much better ones. He could win tournaments if he had a hot putter but he couldn't drive the ball far enough to compete day in and day out.
