Wizard Golf Instruction Lesson 1 The Grip and The Lever
Спорт
The grip is the primary and most important part of a golf swing, so we start our journey here. The club is a lever that is activated and supported by the hands. The grip needs to be such that the hands allow the free motion of the club. The club's inertial motion and path mustn't be impeded or restricted by the motion or position of the hands. The club must be able to flow freely. In order to accomplish this, the club must be gripped in the fingers, with the hands on top of the club.

Pardon the sound. It improves by Lesson 3.
I have been watching golf instructional videos on KZread for years. This series is by far the most enlightening on the game of golf. Anybody who is taking up golf should watch this series. Awesome! Thank your Artemago!
Wow, the right-hand change has improved my contact by so much. I just hit some sand wedges double the distance with less of a backswing than normal... I am in shock lol. It feels like I can just deliver so much power without anything feeling 'weak.' Insane, man. TY. I am an audio engineer myself who loves golf LOL
My golf game has been literally falling apart. Local instructions, videos by various guys on KZread, friends, whatever, for me, I understand your instructions perfectly. Playing so poorly, I almost gave the game up! Thank you for explaining the basics so well! I am now back on track, and looking forward to golfing again and watching your videos multiple times over!!

This makes my day. Thanks!
This guy isn't saying anything new but he's absolutely nailing the fundamentals, I love it.
Excellent video. Best I've ever watched about grip. This is why baseball pitchers are so good at golf. They know how to grip.

Baseball pitchers understand grip, lag, and lower body mechanics. It's just not about grip
What great luck to have stumbled upon your instructional videos. Working my may through all of them. As other comments have remarked - a fantastic level of clarity in breaking down the fundamentals. Please do one on bunker play!
thank you. I place 10 fingers on the club with no finger lock and it fixed my slice and improved ball striking
Easily the best instructional golf video I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen hundreds of them. Damn fine job. I already learned something. Thanks
I like the fact that the info focuses on doing what's correct. Then, demonstrations show the path of the grip rotations. Good progressions of the steps.
I have searched forever for this exact lesson. Fot some reason this part of golf is not taught to everyone beginning. Thank you so much for providing what I knew in my mind was missing but couldn’t explain. Keep doing what you’re doing please. Newest big Fan!
I am so impressed with your presentation. Your description of the lever and how the grip facilitates its proper action resonates profoundly for me.

Thanks for watching and your comment!
I haven’t tried putting these tips into practice yet but I can already say this instruction helps us new players understand the physics behind what we’re trying to achieve. Other videos say “hold it like this, not like this” without explaining why. This video makes sense and I can’t wait to try it. Also, I’m a left handed player and it’s easy to follow your instructions because you’re facing the camera and that’s how I would see myself when looking into a reflection. Easy to mimic. Thanks for the tips!
I'm 75 with 2 fusion back surgeries behind me. I've got to congratulate you on your teaching ability on the golf swing. It is very simple to emulate and execute. I took up golf 2 years ago and viewed many youtube videos. Continue the good work. Who taught you the golf swing. I love the lever system

Love this! Choking down on the club helped me feel the lever...the tabletop notion is the first time I've had a feel of the plane that i can apply
Just watched your video and I looking forward to watching all of your videos. Ive been (struggling) golfing for over 20 years and this is the best explanation of the grip and lever system I have heard. You have a great way of explaining important little details that often get overlooked.
One of the best KZread videos I have ever seen, period. You’re such a natural teacher. Very concise and digestible. Liked, subscribed, and here’s a comment for the algorithm.

One of the best explanations of the proper grip/"hinge" that I have seen yet. Great job. Thank you!
A J Bonar would be proud of you 😊
this guy shows and explains in a way that makes sense!
This was a genuinely good lesson on the golf grip. There are so many confusing issues and requirements on the grip as advocated by professional coaches. But this genuinely explains it as it should be. After playing golf for 30 odd years I agree with everything you’ve said about the grip and shall subscribe and watch your other lessons for sure!
After watching the grip video, which was the first video I watched, I went out hit the ball way better!! I'm impressed, can't wait to see all the videos.
I really like this first video…looking forward the really difficult part is joining all the parts of the swing and making it natural and powerful. This is the key to those of us who have golfed but would like to golf better. Great video though. I notice Our host does not reply to the comments which, while understandable, would be welcome.
Thank you, I always knew about the hinge the trail hand should have, seen other videos, yours is the first to actually demonstrate it like this. I am shocked at the amount of distance my palm now has from the shaft. Tried it 2 rounds now and my ball striking has improved quite a bit. Thank you
Very good information and making a huge difference in my game. Looking forward to your videos on Pitching and the specifics around the Driver Swing. Thanks for making these videos.
Points you’ve made I haven’t heard before but they’re very true, thank you!
Greatly explained! Thx!
Brilliant explanation mate.
Thank you for this excellent instruction.
Excellent video. I decided to get back into golf after a few years away. I’ve never had any formal instruction, but recently, while on the driving range, had a fellow give me advice on my grip. When I’m standing with my arms at my side, the back of my hands face outside, not forward. The proper grip of a club for me is not easy and has even changed my swing. I have had a few miss hits and my score has gone up, but I like the result of my shot when I do connect. I am confident I will get the hang of it and improve my game from the way I used to grip the club.
I am so glad I stumbled upon this video. Parallel palms which seems so common in golf instruction videos didn’t always make sense to me since the arms don’t fall like that for me either. Funny story, years ago I was so frustrated with my swing after hitting one on one a par3 I randomly put my hands on the club like this video describes and proceeded to hit my third shot inside 8 feet to save bogey. For whatever reason, I never stuck with that gripping style. Great video, going to hit some backyard balls with the wedge now!
Been golfing for forty years. Still suck but even at my age i say im gonna get it. Love your video cant wait to tey it out. Thank you great game!!
Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Great explanation of golf fundamentals keep it up
The very first thing crossing my mind when I saw you, was this has to be David Duval's hippie brother, Lmao. Great video though my friend!!
Man that’s a pretty grip.
Thanks. Good observation, good tips and great Thanks.
Great video, great explanation. I especially liked the tabletop notion. You have a new subscriber.
Very great take on how to set the grip. Subbed.
Great explanantion, thank you!
Yup, this is all solid stuff. I know enough about the swing to know this is more Hoganesque stuff than Nicklaus stuff. I think Hogan developed the best swing ever, with Moe Norman right there. Other greats have written books, but their methods aren't as solid as the simplified version of the Hogan move. Alot of teachers try to teach the pro move but that isn't a good method for most physically challenged amateurs. Tom Saguto, Steve Johnston, and Jimmy Tropicana are the best teachers on the internet IMO, because they teach a very simple method. Mike Malaska and Milo Lines are awesome teachers also.
Very good and helpful
Thanks ! great lesson.
Pretty cool
Love the karate analogy. Describes it perfectly
I found turning my left foot slightly towards the flag , and move the ball back, just right of center, this allows club head to make impact more on top of ball enabling the ball to compress. Finish with belt buckle facing FLAG!!
🎉Thank you
This is one of the few, if maybe only, that describes what the wrists do in the swing. I’ve watched a ton and no one mentions this, as if you’re supposed to know.
I've never had it explained to me like that by a pro. Big compliments to you. Could you please do something about the driver?

Looking at this guy's appearance I thought that this would be a spoof. A funny video by an eccentric crazy person. But to my surprise he knows his stuff about the grip and wrst hinge.etc
Real close to Bobby Jones grip, he overlaps has lead hand on top and trail hand on top also but it's more like a strong neutral. The grip works great and remember the importance of the trigger finger of trail hand

Hi Artemago. Just discovered (and subscribed) to your channel. Some fascinating instructional videos. I've been working with a coach in England for about 9 months on ground forces and your EXPLODE video really resonated. I also love the lever concept, something I've never heard of before, and believe me I've had a lot of golf lessons. Do you actively engage the left (lead) hand in the downswing to use the lever? Makes more sense that using the right hand which generally leads me to flip it. I've tried it in the yard, without a ball, and found that I find the low point more consistently when I do. I can't wait to try it on the practice ground.

Most of the lever action happens automatically. Check lesson 2
This is comedy gold😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I didn't know that Eddie Vedder has been playing golf this long
Frank Zappa loves golf.😊
Moe Norman held it in the palm and he was considered the best ball striker ever….but I understand what you are saying for traditional swings..
Thanks a lot for doing this. Fantastic stuff. I stopped playing golf, when the kids came 10 years ago at hdcp 12. I just recently started again and would love to revamp my swing, cause I had huge problems with it back then. Is it a good idea to do the drills in your swing course separately for each video and then try to put them together in a full swing or should I watch all of the swing videos and then try to memorize it all in one drill? I always had the problem of overthinking my swing, so I would love to build healthy habits throughout each phase of the swing. What is your recommendation? Right now I am actually just hinging and unhinging as you suggeseted in this video. When is a good time to implement drills from your second and third video?
@Artemago
21 күн бұрын
I recommend doing these drills and making swings as often as possible without hitting a ball in order to ingrain the motions you want to make. I take swings at home in front of a mirror to be sure that I am moving the way that I want to move. The more you make the desired motions off the range, the easier it will be to implement them on the range. This is not to say don’t practice hitting balls, but to practice your swing just as much off the course just making the movements. Remember to be patient with yourself and just work on 1-2 things at a time. Taking slow motion video of your swing when you do hit balls will be helpful to make corrections. And start with smaller, slower, partial swings (pitches) to build a strong foundation. Be well!
Really enjoying your lessons.....however I am unsure about one element of the grip.......do you wrap the fingers around the club like you would if you were using a hammer with a slight feeling of squeezing or do you just place your hands on it with no pressure at all?
@Artemago
11 күн бұрын
Light pressure, just enough to keep the club in place. Squeezing causes tension. Tension limits mobility.
Great info - Where can I get a golf/beekeepers hat like you are wearing

Can’t find a better man…
Probably the best explanation I’ve seen on how to use the club properly. I feel like my right hand is barely on the club when I hinge back this way with this grip. I could completely take off the thumb and pad so there’s a gap between club and palm and just be holding with that 1 finger on the right hand. Then close that gap when we unhinge. Is that correct? Hope that makes sense

@@Artemago ye I think thats what I feel. Thanks for trying to help us. I usually grip it underneath with a 10 finger grip so this is completely different.
For UK watchers the leather is a lever😂
but you are choking way down on the club
The golf club is not a lever. It's a beam. A lever is the combination of a beam and fulcrum (pivot point).

Maybe… Maybe not… Let’s see you hit a few…
A swinging lever is probably more accurate. The entire club length needs to be swung in sync and on plane for consistency. The actual lever action is very subtle and the full release happens later than amateurs usually envision. I tell my friends to focus more on the swing because I know they're thinking lever because that's the natural inclination. When the takeaway is horrible they've already forgotten swing and are starting the lever. That's generally the inside snatching move. Dead before it started. Most problems I see are with a lack of understanding on the concept. A golf swing is unlike any other action. Some say hockey but not really. Good luck buddy.
