Gary has his own style of music. He's never been main stream. He marches to his own drum. He's probably the most under-rated, under-appreciated artist in country music. No, Carrie and Taylor aren't classic country, each has her own style. Taylor and Carrie are not only artist but they are great role models for young girls.. Something we sorely need. This is something I'd think Gary would understand. But Gary's Gary. His music is from the soul, it's truth, pain, with small bits of joy tossed in here and there.

I am a country singer, song writer, artist. I like Gary Allen. I have to admit that I listen to Taylor Swift. It is not al necessarily country but it seems to be about life. There are guys in country that I don't consider country and there are many songs that are played on country stations that I don't consider country. I think that most people including my self are a little jealous of other people's success. Marketing is an amazing thing.

Also another note, TSwift is one of the best selling artists in the history of music and Carrie doesn't do too bad with her sales, they're both successful, both have meaningful deep songs. Music should be defined by lyrics and feelings, not genre. This "person isn't this genre" stuff these days is bull, music is music.

I can't take anyone seriously who says Carrie Underwood isn't country. You don't know much about her if you genuinely think that.

Not sure why y'all are so angry. He's right. He is saying the whole genre in general has changed and that even he doesn't count himself as country genre anymore. Wasn't a personal insult to your beloved Carrie

I do, thank you. And I play Carrie's as well. So, I guess you could say I am a fan of both of them. I watched this video with a fairly open mind, and he didn't attack her or say she lacked talent. He merely stated that the genre itself has changed completely. He is right. He even admitted he isn't real country anymore these days. Perhaps y'all need to re-watch the video or something.

I respect this dude's opinion and all, but what is "real" country? I'm not American so I wasn't raised in this huge country culture, but I like artists all the way from Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntireand and Shania Twain to Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. They are ALL country in one way or another. Carrie is very much country and Taylor is country-pop. Most of her singles have more of the pop sound with a little dubstep, but if people would actually take the time to listen to her albums they'd know that most of the songs are very much country.

What do you expect love from Carrie's fans??? Seriously, saying Carrie is pop artist making a living in a country genre is so wrong !!! My kid listened to country music because of Carrie. She is an amazing person and will never disrespect other artist.

If you listen to only the singles they both seem like pop artists but if you listen to there whole albums they are both country. Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are two COMPLETELY different artists. Carrie may have a couple songs that lean a little more toward pop but I still consider her to be all country. Taylor on the other hand... I wish country stations would just stop playing her. She is clearly pop.

There is a big difference, one thing is say that Carrie "is contemporary country" and other thing is say that "she is not country". Carrie Underwood is CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY! But say that she is not country when she have 4 #1 COUNTRY albums, 18 #1 COUNTRY singles, is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, her first album was named COUNTRY album of the decade and have more than 100 COUNTRY awards is ridiculous!!! Carrie Underwood makes country music with a pop essence. Taylor Swift makes pop music with a country essence (sometimes). Big difference.

I disagree. Carrie and Taylor are both primarily pop artists. The only difference is that Taylor isn't afraid to show just how pop she is, where as Carrie is still trying to mix things up between country and pop because she's afraid of losing her country fanbase.

Well, most people know this guy thanks to Carrie Underwood brings new fans to country music with songs like Jesus Take The Wheel, Wasted, Before He Cheats, So Small, All American Girl, Last Name, I Told You So, Temporary Home, Blown Away, etc, so he have to be thankful and not say that she is Pop when she have 18 #1 COUNTRY singles!

I disagree, They both make pop music. Taylor isn't afraid to do full-on pop songs. Whereas Carrie just struddles along the "adult contemporary" line.

You can't rip on her fans by throwing out insults and then get mad when they do that about Gary. Nobody is going to take you serious.

I have said for years that Carrie and Taylor's type of "country" is more pop than true country, and to hear my favorite singer say the same just makes me all the more proud to be a Gary Allan fan. He isn't knocking these women, he is just stating the truth. (and yes, I own albums by tall 3 of these artists...but his real life, honest grit music gets way more playing in my stereos than the two gals' do.)

First of all Carrie's Before He Cheats charted at #9 on Billboard Pop Songs and at #5 on Adult Pop Songs. 2nd of all, just because some of Carrie's songs are not playing on pop radios, doesn't make her songs that country. Taylor has some pop songs but majority of her songs are COUNTRY/COUNTRY-POP/MODERN COUNTRY. I can't see that what he is saying is anything to get excited about. It's his opinion and he's not being mean about it. I personally know that Taylor Swift is promoting young artists and bands today that are clearly country. The public does not see most of this activity, and only her closest fans are really aware of it. His statement is not a big deal.

Of course they don't sound like Loretta Lynn - the genre has changed and evolved, just as all genres do. Today's country music is CONTEMPORARY, but that doesn't mean it's not country. It's just really ignorant to say "they're not country". In his defense, he did say he doesn't really think there's a country genre anymore, but he still shouldn't have said the first part the way he did. What's funny is without them bringing drones of fans to the genre, I doubt he'd be as big as he is today.

Carrie Underwood is NOT even close to real country music. This man is right on the money. You weirdo obsessed fans freak me out. And then some of you making comments on Gary's personal life and how his wife committed suicide because he made one comment about how the genre itself has changed. Mama must be proud.

Country is still country! The large companies that own the airwaves feed us what they want us to hear in order to sell advertisement on their stations. Young and pretty sells beer.
