    Hi Jon. Wow, I am truly grateful for the kind words. I advise anyone to do tests, it can be an eye opener, and I only touch lightly on this area (otherwise the video could be an hour long lol) I have another toy to play with so that will be in the next videos, but the 400i is a good performer. I can see why so many people love them.

    Thanks for this. I used to have a Garret EuroAce, but sold it and gave up for a few years after I moved house and struggled to get permissions. I will soon be moving back to where I used to live and have been looking at the 400i as my tool of choice when I get there. This helps a lot.

    Hello Mr Thump ! It's a good honest detector and I thoroughly enjoyed owning one (although I'm not a fan of the bell tone) Things have moved on a little since I made this, I would recommend researching the Nockta Simplex as well, It's a lot of detector for the money with strong features. But if you do get the 400i then it will find you plenty and it's still a good machine for the price. ATB MMMD

    If using on the beach you will need to turn the sensitivity down and have the discrimination quite high. It's not the best on the beach but it is possible to use it on wet sand. No problem on dry sand. ATB MMMD

  • @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Lee. I would use the Zero Disc mode to start with and get used to the three tones. If the iron is heavy and bothers you then relic is my favourite. Jewelry mode is ok if you want a quieter life. Push sensitivity as high as you can without false targets, I usually had it one bar off full. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the machine. ATB MMMD

    I’m hoping to upgrade at some point next year, 400i seems like s good choice. Would it work with my Nel Tornado that I have on my Ace 250? Good review buddy, Garrett are good machine, I’ve no idea why they get slated so much. GL&HH

  • @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Arron. I'm 99% sure that the Tornado is compatible with all Aces, a quick call to Regtons would confirm. It's only when you step up to the AT Pro that the coils are different. So if you stick with an Ace you already have a bigger coil.There's an element in the hobby that likes to knock the Aces, possibly because they are cheap and yellow, it's just snobbery like you get in everything in life. The stock coil on the 400i is better than the one on the 250 and I find the iron audio to be very helpful. It's good to have an audio map of the terrain in my opinion. All the best mate.

    Hi there, well first of all please be aware that all land in the UK requires landowners permission before you can detect , unless your walking on the beach? For sheer simplicity coupled with performance I recommend the Golden Mask 1+UK . Turn it on and detect, and it works well. Please see my latest couple of videos on that one with a link to the UK supplier. The Ace 400i is a solid machine that would serve you well, tried and trusted brand and machine so no problem if you choose that. One thing to note, you have to replace the batteries in the Ace, the Golden Mask has re-chargable so you just top it up after each trip out. They are both good machines at a low price. Hope that helps. ATB MMMD

    Hi mate, just a quick question , I'm finding lots of pennies at the mo with my detector mainly surfice finds. And I'm gettin a bit down as I'm thinkin my 400i is at the limit. As I would like to be finding deep things. I believe the 400 is 10 KHZ but when i have mine on full sensitivity it goes of like a bloody raving lunatic so I notch down two bars. Will this effect my depth.

  • @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    @MudMaxMetalDetecting

    Hello mate. Very few detectors can run at maximum sensitivity, it's rare to have a place where you can get away with it. Two bars off is fine on the 400i buddy. ATB MMMD

    Sometimes less can be more. If your 400i runs smooth on two notches down then that's right for the conditions. As I said, very few detectors can run at full power very often. My Deus usually runs best at 90% and my Golden Mask runs bast at 80%. Don't worry, it's very normal. ATB MMD

    Hi Max, I have been using the 400 for a long time now, it was my backup to my Deus, but I preferred the 400, so sold the Deus and bought a second 400 as backup.. I have found coin shaped items will normally come in a steady 84, I have had a sixpence at 91, and a florin at 91-92 I dont think I have had a coin in the 70s unless it was a iron core decimal coin... I would advise anyone to get the 400, and if it can get a hammy at just over a foot with the Mars 15 inch coil, as I showed in one of my vids, what more do you want... the only negative is it is bad with EMI...but most machines are the same... you might not hear from me for a few month ( no I'm not going to prison....LOL ) just a lot of issues at home that need my full attention, might put a vid up just explaining why... take care mate GL & HH Tom

    Hi Tom. I hope everything's ok mate, sometimes there are more important things than metal detecting, especially when it comes to family. There's no doubt the 400i is a good machine. Not sure I want to ditch my Deus but we are all different and we all take to machines differently, and there's certainly plenty of choice out there. Take care mate and I hope you and your family are all ok.

    Can any of you detectoring folks answer this for me? Is Garrett still producing the ACE 400? This is April 2019 and after much research and deliberation I'm on the "eve" of placing the order for my first detector machine. The ACE 400. I'm in the U.S., the midwest region ( Illinois ) to be exact. No water or beach detecting at all here for me. For a first machine would I be better getting the AT Pro or MAX? Would love to hear from you wonderful folks. Any info or thoughts will be appreciated. Best regards.... MJH

    Hi Michael. When I brought the 400i, I was advised by the retailer that the machine has a lot of the tech you find in the AT series, in fact he was surprised how close they were. Having said that, if your heart is set on Garrett then I would advise you to get the Max. It has a bit more going on than the others so if you can afford it, buy the top machine. I don't think the Pro has enough to offer over the 400 but the Max is worth it if you have the budget. ATB MMMD

    Hi Peter. Keep the cover on, it is to protect the underneath of the coil when you detect. Take it off when you want to clean the coil. Wash the mud off then gently ease the cover off slowly so you don't break it. Clean the inside then replace. I clean mine after most hunts unless it's dry weather and there's nothing really on it. You must always clean it if you go from a beach to land as the sand can affect it if you leave it under the cover and go on to soil. ATB MMMD
