One thing you need to know. The depth of water is subtracted from the range out setting. Using your screen for example, you are sitting in 28ft of water with a range setting of 70ft. So objects at the edge of your screen are not 70ft away from your boat, they are 42ft away from your boat. If you were in 5ft of water the objects at the edge of your screen would be 65ft with those settings. Hope this helps, tight lines..!

I think this is actually an incorrect explanation. I was thinking the same, but what we have to realise - fishfinder just measures distance to the object and not the surface distance. Ex - if depth is 28ft, then objects appearing 30ft away on screen are actually 30ft away (28ft down + ~2ft left or right).

Good point. I rarely use SideVu to actually cast to something from SideVu. I will usually use SideVu to find objects, then mark them with a waypoint, then go to the waypoint (object) using a split screen of my Navigation and DownVu. This finds the object 100% of the time, and I don't have to worry about whether the feet to it is completely accurate or not.

Yes I did just get the 93sv so this helps a lot. I noticed autopilot on your home screen! Is that what will control my trolling motor in a route?

Just ordered a 73SV for my boat, great video man. Appreciate the tips, excited to get it setup. Did you use the swivel mount that came with it by chance? If so how is it?
@InstinctBassin
2 жыл бұрын
I did use the swivel mount, and it works well. It just seems a little flimsy, but I haven’t had any issues with it at all. If I had to do it again, I would probably use a Panther mount, or some other that fits over the top of the trolling motor.

@@InstinctBassin I appreciate that. I was debating on just using it or ordering a RAM ball mount for it. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Just going on the console of my little pro 17 bass tracker. Probably order another or the 93SV later to go up front... Soon as my wife forgets that I just bought one lol.
Hello…I really enjoyed this video plus your follow up on 5 more things to do! I have a 73sv and looking at a lot of how to videos to help my learning curve. I do have 2 quick questions. You mentioned that you were not out on your boat when doing the videos so you used simulation mode using the predefined maps, not actual live recorded data. That interests me a lot since we don’t have enough room to keep our boat home and I was wondering what setup you use. My mounting connections are all on my boat where we store it, but I bring the trolling motor battery home to recharge it, so I was wondering (1) how do you enter simulation mode and (2) do you have another set of cables that run from your 73SV device to your battery to power it? I have the full East coast maps that include 17,000 lakes and rivers and I’d like to review these at home for ideas on where to boat/fish. Thanks for any suggestions…
@InstinctBassin

Hi my latest video talks about how to enter simulator mode and what to do if you can’t find it, so check that out. I also did an “on the water” video where I go over my personal setup. Check those videos out and hopefully they should answer your questions. Thanks for watching.
I took the plunge and bought the 126SV today. I need to find someone who can install it correctly. I can use my existing heavy duty RAM mount. I am not good with wiring so I will look for someone to do it. Thanks for the advice. If you are ever on the west coast near Homosassa give me a shout.
Good afternoon!! I was doing some research last night and I think I am going to go with the 106SV and the 93SV for the bow. Hi,,, Very Helpful info, THANKS! FYI,,,,, I need to post a story, about a 'GLITCH' that just might save someone a lower unit! I fish NE Ohio, & Erie the most. I Just started to use the Garmin 93SV on our near-by lakes. No Problems there. We recently had a 3-day Erie trip planned with the family. First day/ first time out, a bright & sunny day,,, we went out of port & around the end of the breakwall, & suddenly the whole screen went black,,, I couldn't see a thing on the screen, & that was the spot where the bottom silt comes up to 2'ow.! That 'GLITCH', BLACK SCREEN, ruined the fams 3-day vacation. We had 3 days to find some eyes, & NOW, NO FISHFINDER!! At home, I called Garmin tec support. I Waited 'IN LINE' for 3 hrs, before I got a return call. The TEC knew about the 'GLITCH', aka lighting problem, & easily guided me through the set-up pages to correct "THE PROBLEM". The next weekend, I talked to 3 other GARMIN 93SV owners at my 75 unit campground, & they ALL experienced the same exact 'problem' & they also had to contact GARMIN to get 'THE FIX'. SO,,,, I'm here to tell you & anyone else who BUYS A GARMIN 93SV, to make sure your unit isn't in 'AUTOMATIC' CONTRAST or LIGHTING CONTROL SETTING! MAKE SURE THAT YOUR UNIT IS SET TO 'MANUAL' CONTRAST LIGHTING CONTROL. Set it around 80%, & go from there. I searched through many KZread videos,, & nobody is mentioning this problem. Evidently, the electric eye doesn't diagnose the amount of sunlight that's hitting the screen, & the unit THINKS IT'S DARK OUT! THE SCREEN GOES BLACK.

Oh Ya,,,, one more thing. I removed the Garmin 93SV from it's mounting bracket, in order to take the unit home while I called GARMIN. I figured I needed the SN that's on the back of the unit. With those VERY SMALL positive & negating 12v ELECTRICAL CONTACT PINS, that are on the back of the unit, There's absolutely NO WAY TO FIRE UP THE UNIT when it's out of that bracket!? The boat & bracket were up Erie, & I had the unit at home. Is there an easy, SAFE way to power up this unit, when it's out of the bracket? THANKS,,,,, for any help. ;>)

Either the GT56 or 54 will work great. I have the 54 on both of mine.
So this is my first boat and my first fish finder/chart plotter. I have the UHd 106sv. My problem is, I dunno wth I’m looking at. I have the transducer mounted on the left rear toon on my pontoon. On the screen is it showing behind me as if I need to fish like I’m trolling? Should I move it to mount on my trolling motor?
@InstinctBassin
Жыл бұрын
On a pontoon, I’d leave it where you have it. But yes, all fishfinders, besides Forward Facing Sonar, show what is directly behind and under the boat. Check out Fish The Moments channel for some great tutorials on how to read sonar…aside from what I have here of course.
Question: at min 4:30 or so you mention that you can just tap on a screen to enlarge it. When I do this it opens that screen but it also is trying to set a waypoint. I can't seem to get that to stop happening. Plus I have no clue how to get the waypoint screen to clear so I am stuck with a portion of the screen with waypoint settings. Is there a setting that will turn this off or what could I be doing wrong? Thanks.

Interesting. I honestly don’t use the split screen setting very often, so I can’t say that I’ve encountered this. I’ll see if I can duplicate it next time I’m on the water though. Maybe try tapping on the screen but not the side of it?

They should stay the same, unless you’re doing an actual system reset and not just turning it off and then back on.
QUESTION : If I do all this adjusting with the thing set on DEMO because the boat is not in the water, will it save and use the changes when set to normal?
@InstinctBassin

It depends on which settings you are changing. For instance, if you change the depth shading ranges and colors, or the sonar colors, it should save those. I made most of my changes and saves on the water though.

Not to be a pain but I have a question. My current Lowrance HDS10 Gen 2 has an issue with the screen constantly flickering off and on. I have an idea I have a bad battery and it is a low voltage issue. Does that seem reasonable? The battery is 3+ years old. I cannot afford lithiums unfortunately. It seems to work okay when the motor is running and the voltage is higher.
@InstinctBassin

Sounds like low voltage to me, but it could have to do with how it is wired as well. Be sure to use at least 10 gauge wire to extend any power cables. Run either to the battery directly or at least to the console fuse box.

Depends on what type of fishing you do. If it’s a kayak, then the 7” is probably fine. If it’s a bass boat, then I’d go with the 9”, especially up front. The 7” is a bit tough to see detail on when I’m standing above it. The 9 goes on sale at least twice a year. Other than the screen size, everything else is the same.
Great video. Learned a lot. Just got a 74SV, loaded with coastal maps of course. I am familiar with my local lakes in N. GA and not so much around the coast of Fla where I plan to go this summer. Any issues with getting a Lake Vu card and slipping it in for the lakes? Thanks much.

Nope no issues at all. Should work great.

Press menu, settings, demo. Be sure to take it out of demo mode before going to the water. Thanks for watching!
What settings do you use to track your drop shot as it falls under the boat on 2D sonar?

I don’t use 2d sonar very often, but I’ve been able to track it with the gain at about 80%
I just got my ice bundle unit, how do you check how much battery percentage is left ???

Hi thanks for watching. In the upper right corner, it will tell you how much voltage the unit is receiving. While this isn’t necessarily the same as how much is left, it should give a good indication.
? I want to replace my bow mount echo map 73sv with an echo map 93sv. can I use the same wiring cables of the 73sv to the 93sv ?
@InstinctBassin

Yes, they take the exact same wiring and have the exact same connections on the back. You’ll need a different mount of course though. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rob, I am going to buy a 93SV tomorrow for the bow. I downloaded the update for my 126SV last week onto an SD card. Can I put that card into the 93SV to do an update or do I need a new card ? Thanks

Really the best way is to just use the Active Captain app on your phone. That’s the only way I’ve ever updated mine. But to answer the question, I think you will need to download the update for the 93SV. I don’t think they are the same update. But I’ve never used the card to update, just the app.
will the settings hold or do things go back to default with on - off of unit

Your settings should stay unless you reset the unit back to factory. This doesn’t include things changed in simulator mode though.
Hi, Do you know what would be the maximum depth that the fish finder can read the bottom and mark the fish? Regards

According to Garmin’s website, the GT-56 transducer has a max depth of 800 ft for traditional 2d sonar, 400 ft for ClearVu, and 500 ft for Side Vu. The GT54 transducer max is 800ft, 200ft, and 125ft respectively.

@@InstinctBassin sorry, one last question, you know the different of the 73sv and 74sv?
@InstinctBassin

@@Salsuginis Yes, the 73SV comes with built in lake mapping, whereas the 74SV comes with coastal mapping. Otherwise they are the same.

Are you using it in lakes or coastal regions? If you’re using it in lakes, that’s probably the issue, since it comes with coastal mapping. Otherwise, check out my FAQ video, as I address it there.

@@InstinctBassin Im using it with preloaded coastal maps. Its a 94sv. I will deff check out the faqs! Diving a little deeper it seems like i may need to purchase a separate package for depth shading. Doesn’t seem too cool on their part considering the price of the unit itself. On my active caption app it says fully up to date 2023. Thanks again for the prompt response!

@@2012Ryan240sx The depth shading should work in coastal regions since that is the mapping that comes with the unit. If you want it to work in lakes, then you would either need the 93SV or the G3 Lake Map card.

Sooo... I got to the bottom of this and it might be some good info for some people. I wanted to make sure to follow up. I contacted garmin which was pretty easy to do. Their exact words are the 94sv offshore edition does not come with depth shading active. They said the on/off feature will appear to function but will not function. A vision plus card is required. I purchased it and depth shading is bow working great! Thanks again for your replys and kick ass vids!

Is there a way to look ahead or behind on the map side of a combo without it going to full screen? When you press back, my map just shows me where the boat is currently.
@InstinctBassin
2 жыл бұрын
On a combo screen if you touch one side it will make it full screen. You can look ahead on the map from any of the navigation screens but not when it is in combo mode. At least not that I know of.

@@InstinctBassin That's bumming me out. I just got 2 of these graphs and never tried that before, and i could not look ahead and also see 2D at the same time. Thanks for the answer anyway.
@InstinctBassin
2 жыл бұрын
No problem, that’s not something I ever do, as the 2D on any sonar isn’t going to be very accurate over about 5-10 mph. Since I don’t graph unless I’m idling, I don’t really see the need to look ahead since I’m going slow anyway.
@InstinctBassin

@@adriandavidpayne Also if you have 2 of them next to each other you could always just use one to graph and one for navigation. But that’s only if they are side by side.

First , I’ll say good video . I can not find where (a place to phyisically go and speak to a person about fish finding eguipment ) also want to know what is the price of what equipment . It would be nice if someone would tell these things . More people whom are not pros would buy if they could speak to someone with some knowledge of garmon or Humminbird .

I have the 7, but it’s honestly a bit small unless you get a high ram mount for it. I think a 9 is a good compromise, but of course a bigger screen is usually better.
