Garmin CT10 club tracking sensors - are they worth it? can they be better? connecting to my S62
You all know how much I like my S62. Thought would give the Garmin Club Tracking Sensors CT10 a try. After using it, I have some ideas on several improvements that would bring even more value to all golfers trying to improve their game!
@garmin, I have more ideas on how you could enhance a future product and I would be happy to test it out!
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. What would you like to see?
And those with the CT10, how do you like them?

Not sure why so many people give this a negative review...I absolutely love this product. It might not be the most accurate but the price is great and really enjoy the data it gives. Everytime I test the distance accuracy with range finder it's nearly spot on. If you think a yard or two will change your club selection you are delusional.

Isn't it just using the watch to still track the shot distance. I have the s60 right now, I take a shot and select the club. Then when I hit next, the watch records the distance on the previous shot and makes me select the club for the shot I just hit. Don't these basically just automatically select the club, removing that step. This should be just as accurate as any golf watch but without the hastle of choosing a club. Play away and get data. Also auto score. Basically this should auto record the scores minus penalties.
hi there. I want to thank you for your Garmin S62 videos. I just bought mine and your videos are being very useful for seeing the features and how it works on the course. Very very useful, more than the other most videos

Thank you!
I used them for 2 rounds with my S62 and I thought they are more trouble than they are worth. I got so many false hits. The S62 is really good at detecting contact with the ball and prompts you for what club you just hit.
On Garmin manual and site it clearly says: ¹AutoShot on a compatible watch does not track putts and may not track chip shots around the green, depending upon lie and ball contact. And still you wanted to install it on exactly those

Auto shot (watch detection) doesn’t pick up puts and chips and therefore that is where the sensors are needed.
Thx for doing this. I had no idea why you need these things when the watch tracks as is

I also saw that it asks you which club you hit and it then measures the distance of that club.
I noticed that in the Garmin Golf App there are stats related to club performance. The stats are currently blank, would I need to install the CT10 in order to get the data? Thank you
pull out watch, has kids picture on it. ME: ahhhwww that's cute have a follow!
Hi. After you have used them the last 4 months, what do you recommend? Are they worth it or does S62 work fine without (just using the virtual caddie) ?

Hi Henrik, the CT10s aren’t necessary for your driver to irons. Personally I think the only benefit is on your wedge when you’re chipping around the green.

@@JitzKing Can you elaborate on why this is? I've seen this sentiment around but haven't heard exactly why yet. Thanks!
Would love to know how this works on a putter. I've used GameGolf and Arccos before switching to the S62. Both tag systems wouldn't screw into my putter because of the counterweight. I managed to attach it by cutting off the stem and gluing it on. But really curious how effective the putt detection is.

It works on my putter pretty well. All it does is detect how many putts you take so that you don’t need to manually enter it

@@JitzKing what about for wedges? does it record, how far my wedges rolled as soon as I putt on the surface of the green? I'm more concerned about my partial wedge shots or short game... wonder if ct10 would keep track and help my game.
Hmm, got 3 as gift. Insanely pricey to fill out bag. I'm on S20 so if I can work out the apps etc I think they'll be good to learn ranges etc. No need to count my shots I can go to 10 already in my head.
Hi EK just got my S62 watch (3weeks) ago, And was thinking 🤔 of fitting the ct10 (3pack) to Putter & both wedges to get the data for chipping & putting, Was thinking about your putter problem (you could get an old grip cut the top of the grip off screw in the ct10 & glue to the top of your putter) i see i am a bit late with this fix😬but it might be worth a try, Do you think I should fit the sensors to the 3 club’s, Thanks Dickey 9hcp 75year Senior Golfer UK

Hi Dick, great idea! And yes, I would use the sensors on the short cuts since they don’t register so well when chipping/putting
I’m left handed also and I have the Garmin S60. In order to record your swings with it you’re supposed to wear the watch on your lead wrist and for me, it’s so awkward on my right wrist. So I currently sacrifice by not getting any distances recorded on my shots because I wear it on the left. If I added the CT10’s, would they sense each shot and wearing the watch on my trail hand shouldn’t be a problem anymore? Or even with the CT10’s do you still have to wear on the lead wrist?
@JitzKing

Hi Bobby, I can’t say for certain, but I think the CT10 would help solve it since it’s attached to your club, rather your wrist. That’s a good idea, you should try it 👍

@@JitzKing hi, play right handed and I use also my watch in my right wrist, and i don't have any problems. the only thing is that the sensors are registering so many false positives....and also not taking some shots.... so, i'm thinking about trying the arccos sensors.....

@@cokempana hi - sorry to message. But what difference does it make if you say watch is on right or left hand? I usually wear watch on right but it doesn’t sense my shots so have to wear it on my left (and I find it a bit uncomfy). Be great to get a solution to this!
@JitzKing

You just need to change the watch setting to say which wrist you are wearing the watch on. If it’s not set correctly it won’t probably detect the shots
Had you any Issue with false hits, because that would be a pity for the price they costs. And it would be awesome when you also could show some of the garmin golf app features, after you uploaded a round or two, because I really couldn't find a dedicated video about this.

The false hits are rare. Definitely improved vs when I was using the S20. Good idea on the app, let me work on that 👍
So - this sensor tells what club you hit for the yardage needed. I can keep track of that myself. Does this sensor tell you how far you hit the ball by subtracting the yards from your last hit? How does this work?
@Garysalunatic

I believe you have it right. When you hit the next shot, it asumes that spot is where your last shot landed and it knows what club you used. These take out the manual entry that you’d have to remember to make after every shot. Dunno if that’s worth $300.
@JitzKing

Totally worth it because it shows all your shots in the Garmin Golf app and send screenshots to your buddies on how you hit 🦅🤣
Can I connect to S42?
It's more useful to attach them to the clubs that you want to record the distance. So putter is the last club you want to use it on. Garmin also states that it's less accurate on a putter.
@JitzKing

Hi, since the watch can track full swings I didn’t use it on those clubs. I put it in my putter so that it could automatically track how many putts I took, and also roughly where I started my first putt on the green. Without it, not always can the watch pick up from where I started my first putt, since it’s too soft of a strike.
Would have been good if the sensors diameter was as good as the grips. Looks uncomfortable otherwise.
I have the Garmin tags and watch, probably the most expensive out of them all and to be honest I’m disappointed. The club tracking seems to track all shots, so things like an 8i chip around the green records and reduces the average yardage, really poor they don’t sort this. Also, I find the app a bit messy in the performance center and not very clear what your stats are. Anyone feel this?

Hi Steve I think your comment is spot on👍, After reading some other reviews there’s a good solution (in “my bag”) create a club call it Chipper and select it for these shots & when your playing out of trees, this leave’s you’re stat’s Correct, Dickey

Steve you are right again👍, (I only have 3 sensors) so it’s not a problem for me to manually select my (chip out club) but think if you create your chip out club in my bag use one of the clubs you have no sensor for (poss a 2iron) & manually change your say 8Iron to a 2iron (called chipper) on the Watch when hitting the shot (try this) hope it works Dickey👍

@@dickbroomer7877 I think it would be easy for Garmin to just not include silly distances for clubs, which would take on crazy long drives where your second shot wasn’t recorded and things like any distance under 140y for an 8i and so on. Or have an option to set your range for each club, any distance out side that doing include in you clue distance stats 👍
Can anyone tell me why some golf tags like this are Bluetooth and others are proximity, is there an advantage to them being Bluetooth?
