This is Why I NEVER Start with the Club Behind the Golf Ball

Спорт

I never ever address the address directly behind the golf ball when i hit driver from the TEE! This is exactly what Jon John follows and we can all achieve this too! Doing this has allowed me to drive the golf ball MUCH LONGER & STRAIGHTER & create an easy golf swing for a consistent driver game. Making this adjustment with my drier I NOW find the middle of the cub & increase ball speed, consistently!
Making this adjustment with your driver & NEVER starting with the golf club driver head behind the golf ball will help you find the middle at impact enrsurining longer, straighter drives! I know this will sound crazy but i never start with the golf club behind the golf ball when i have the driver in my hand! This way i can increase my club head speed, hit the golf ball much longer and straighter. Its worth knowing that this simple golf swing driver tip will allow you to hit the golf ball longer and straighter no matter age or ability!

Hi Alex, was wondering if you could do a video on wedge play (80 to 30 yards in) from a wet, kind a sobby fairways now we are going into the winter season. Curious about the way you handle these situations. Thanks. And BTW, your vids are really really good simple to execute them myself and so helpfull!! Keep up the good work.

Played around on the range today with lining up driver at the toe end. Genuinely before I saw this video. Smashed ball after ball. Gained a lot of yards and the sound of a middle hit was awesome. Your video defo confirmed this is a good tip! Everyone should have a try at this.

Great video, Alex. I was hitting my driver off the heel. So, I adjusted my setup by drawing my club 4 inches back, and lining up the far toe with the left side of the ball. Now, I'm crushing drives, consistently striking the sweet spot of my driver. I'm keeping it in play far more often now too. Thank you!

Excellent Alex!! I started addressing the ball OUTSIDE (further away than you are)of the toe after using some powder on the face to find where I was making contact. I didn't know WHY it worked, just that it did! Your video explains that perfectly. Now I have the reason why I'm driving the ball more consistently.

Forces you to swing down with an inside out path. I practice something similar at the range, using two golfballs, placing one ball further (maybe two inches further) out and lining up to that one (a mishit w an actual ball produces good physical feedback). Someone who has a tendency to swing shallow would do the opposite. Place a ball closer, line up to close ball and hit the one further out. 😊

Alex, thank you so much for this tip. I've been hitting my driver like crap lately and felt like I couldn't find the middle of the face. Setting up further behind the ball and off the toe had me hitting my drives today much more consistent, farther and feeling like I was finding the center of the face. Thanks again!!

ChuckieC don't show your friends this video as evidence of anything other than Alex is speaking precisely about his swing. If it works for him and for you then great. The mechanics of a pure golf swing do NOT support Alex's ramblings. Alex's swing is for Alex. Grind in your own swing and model it after the pure mechanics of a true swing. Cheers brother.

I've always addressed the ball on the toe side for the exact reason you state. I don't trust my muscle memory to keep my swing from extending due to centrifugal force. I hit much better this way. However, I've never attempted to address the ball so far back before. I do have a tendency to hit lower so I tee up the ball to compensate. Also, I sometimes hit the ground right before the ball. I'm going to try to tee it up and address it like you show and see if that helps. Thanks, and keep on keeping it in the fairway. 🙂

Completely Agree. On all the points. (I don't necessarily follow them all especially the 2nd one with resting the ball on the ground 6 inches behind the ball. But makes sense, so it looks like I will have to try that afterwards. The last one, though I can't tell you how many people I have had to tell to NOT line up in in the middle of ball. What I like to tell people is that then are lined up when their arms are relax and not fully extended. But when they swing away it is natural to fully extend and they will either extend beyond or heal the ball. If they adjust their swing to strike the middle then are not getting a full power of their swing.

You are my hero and I am forever subbed to this channel. I started out golf really young thanks to my father who was an avid golfer and he took me to courses few times every month. I never learned golf professionally but just messed about in the range with my father with occasional tips from him. Me being young and jealous of other adult's distances during the round, as a kid I tried to squeeze every drop of distance out of my swing with my limited strength. Naturally, my swing became kind of like John Daly over swung and with all might thrown at the ball. Fast forward now older adult my swing stayed the same. I am happy with my iron game but my driver was all over the place. 1 out of 5 I would bomb it down the fairway 300~320 yards but other 4 were snap hooks and slice off the planet to a point where I just gave up on driver during my game and teed of with a 4 iron or 5. This video got recommended to me out of nowhere and tried it in the range 2 days ago and my driver was going straight down the range 9 out of 10 times and even the one time it missed it was not a snap hook nor slice off the planet! All this accuracy with my ridiculous over charged John Daly Swing. Yesterday during my round I found most fairways of my adult golf hood with my driver and I was not scared during address that I might kill someone on the next hole. I am forever grateful for this tip man. really you have no idea. I am not sure how much a pint costs over the pond these days but I would love to treat you at least a pint. Thank you so much!

As you suggested, I try to tee the ball the same height every time and I do not hover the driver behind the ball for the reason you have given. The one thing I am still working on and it definitely a "work in progress is setting the driver approximately six inches behind the ball and toward the toe at address. All good information Alex! Why doesn’t anyone and I mean anyone mention hand placement on the shaft with driver?? Everyone talks about grip but no one mentions position as this one adjustment that blows everything else out the water as I’ve discovered. Had major issues with my driver and tried every KZreadrs tips and nothing worked until I moved my hands closer to the bottom of the shaft and now I’m hitting straighter and more controlled shots. Before doing anything else move your hand position and I guarantee you, as an inexperienced golfer this works more than anything else you’ll learn. Thank me later

Getting fitted for a driver is easily the best thing you can do to eliminate a slice/hook. If you are gripping down on your driver then it doesn't fit you. I got fitted for a ping g425 driver at the beginning of the year, and went from a big slice to dead straight almost instantly.

I went to the driving range for the first time yesterday. I bought flexible tees and some sharpies. My first thought was next time i come out here I'm going to mark all my tees and eliminate the tee height inconsistency. I did really well not hitting the ground. 3 times out of 1 large basket and 1 small basket. I think i naturally hit a little higher so ill find my sweet spots off of good shots and use those as my guages.

Moved the driver start position about 4 inches from the ball and hit 3 draws one after the other…a slower controlled swing also helps

Great video . Thanks ! I’m going to start addressing the driver a few inches behind as although my driver is decent I tend to hit the ball higher as hitting down on it ? (I think that would cause this ? ) . I tend to hit more out of the toe so should I try the opposite and address more out the heel (opposite to your instructions ?)

  • @xtremerollin

I've been addressing off the toe for years and completely destroy the ball. I've showed others when I play with them and notice they slice a bit and when they adjust it puts them right down the middle. It just makes sense.

I thought I was the only person who did this, with addressing the ball a ways back from it. Basically, i figure between my feet will be the middle of my swing and lowest point, so that's where I want the driver to rest on the ground. I put the ball a few inches ahead of that, inside my heel, mentally picturing bottoming out in the middle and hitting a tad up on the ball off the tee. I've never thought about addressing it toward the toe of the club, I'll have to try that.

I used to practice with club head stickers to see where I was striking the ball. With the driver I had to address the ball with the toe equal to the ball (just like Alex describes). I just assumed this was due to my crappy swing - now I can see its science and that I don't suck as much as I thought. (as much being very subjective)

One of your earlier driver videos where you broke down Rahm's set up helped me drastically. I went from feeling like my lower half wasn't utilized and my drives all over the place to much straighter and longer drives. Before I could get total distance of 250 now I am getting total distances up to somewhere in the 320's. I don't have launch monitor so I cannot give a carry distances though.
