who says tony stark wasn’t evil? sure he’s seen as a good guy and fights for truth justice and all that stuff but breaking his character down he does more bad then good. makes weapons for terrorists creates a terrorist,releasing the hulk on multiple cities using his fame and fortune to escape punishment. i view tony stark as a neutral character he leans more towards justice but if doing something stupidly evil will get him more money and power he’ll do it.. he’s the type of character you wouldn’t want in any form of political power because he’ll go mad with power. iron man is a hero and is a necessary to humanity in the marvel universe but if he retired died or went into to hiding the earth would be better off without iron man. no bad guy tony screwed over becoming a terrorist. no more of his fiancé would get kidnapped and tony destroying half a city to save her. going off the grid for a year i wouldn’t be surprised if the crime rate goes down.

Fun Facts: The voice actor of Harkon (the blonde viking dude) is Clancy Brown. AKA Mr. Krabs. Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star) is the voice of Broadway. And John Rhys-Davies, who plays Gimli in LotR, is MacBeth. ALSO Ed Asner voices Hudson, and he was Mr. Frederickson in Up. There are a lot of good voice actors in this thing.

Don't forget Keith David. My mom was actually a big fan, and I had a fangasm myself hearing him in the Netflix series "Kulipari: An Army of Frogs", because he does one of the main antagonists, another being voiced by Wendie Malick.

Gargoyles, in my opinion, is the greatest animated series of all time. It is brilliantly written, with incredible complexity in both character and story, seamlessly interweaving mythological and Shakespearean archetypes in its plots and themes. It is also superbly animated, with a stellar voice cast. To me, Gargoyles took what Batman: The Animated Series introduced to children's television animation and elevated it. It also did what Avatar: The Last Airbender often gets credit for bringing to the table (complex world-building, an ongoing myth arc etc.) a good ten years before Avatar even came out. Yet, despite all this, it is criminally underrated and woefully disrespected by Disney, who seem almost ashamed of the cartoon (Although, they seem to feel this way about all their Disney Afternoon cartoons, given the bare-bones DVD releases they all had; and despite the fact that those same cartoons were enormously successful, fondly remembered, and were, in particular DuckTales, instrumental in getting Disney out of its Dark Age, but I digress) Gargoyles deserves so much more than that. It deserves to be remembered for the incredible and influential animated series that it is.

The princess's disdain for the Gargoyles is somewhat explained later in the first Hudson focused episode. It turns out when she was a little girl, her father was poisoned by a sorcerer who came and went before the princess discovered her father with only Hudson there with him. She either mistakenly blamed him for trying to kill her father himself or maybe just for failing to protect him.

I live in a country where disney afternoon was never put on But many DA cartoons were and a still are beeing played on saturday, but usualy it is like aladin, timone and pumba, tail spin. I wish we had at least once gargoiles

The men attacking the castle in 994 are vikings, and they intend to plunder it. You know, because that's what vikings did. It's explained in the show, and not at all difficult to understand.

This needs to come back for the new generation. I remember being in middle school when the show first debut and it seemed like everyday they had a new episode. The plot twists and characters were a perfect combination and Disney hit a homerun with this show.

Keith David is an amazing voice actor! He did the voice of Spawn in the animated series, Goliath, the narrator to the Gargoyles series, The First Fallout game, The Narrator & Okkoto for Princess Mononoke, and hundreads of other roles!

Watched the series as a kid, loved it. Watched most of it as a teen, still loved it. Watched it all a couple years ago, this series has aged so well. It was way ahead of it's time. This series needs a reboot, same style, continue the story in the last season. This series ended too soon.

Best Disney show in the 90's period! Ducktales and Darkwing Duck were excellent, but Gargoyles was king!

I loved this show when I was a little kid! I had fond memories of it (even though I had very little memories of it) I am so glad to see one of Disney treasures once again!

Not going to lie, I used to skip this show when I saw it coming up in my channel guide on Toon Disney just because I thought this was a Hunchback spinoff. I have missed out BIG time!

MonsterHunter 66 You are technically correct as the character was not intended to be, hence his interest in females. But the creator has stated that, if he gets to make the call, he will pair him with a male. That male was introduced in a short graphic novel, though they never got around to any relationship. In addition to that choice being a Mary-Sue/ forced diversity fail, I'm really not sure how well the whole 911 thing would have played out? The Gargs would have been outraged, but how would the writers have covered the issue trying not to upset anyone? I think this show was amazing, but I don't trust it wouldn't be brought back mutilated with needless virtue signals, or just not up to par w/ the previous work artistically. Disney and Marvel (as WDC owns them) have really been butchering old characters lately. At least there was a rich fanfictiondom!

I'm amazed he didn't talk about the gun episode in the first season. I was legitimately shocked at how much blood blood they got away with showing on a kid's show, and one made by Disney at that.

In the french version of the cartoon Goliath is voiced by Benoit Allemane, wich is also the voice actor who did the french voice for Kain from Legacy of Kain series( well not in BO1, but starting SR1) wich for me was double the reason to love this!!! Also Benoit Allemane does the french voice for Alex Louis Armstrong in FUllmetal Alchimist /-Brotherhood

I never watched that show, but my dad never missed an episode. He died 16 years ago. So thank you Nostalgia Critic, for explaining what this show was all about. And making me laugh in the process :)

I thought everyone had forgotten about this...I would bring it up to my classmates, and they would go "What?" -_- I didn't grow up watching TV nonstop, but I was around long enough for the end of the Disney Afternoon. I mention some of the stuff, and stuff like SpongeBob and Barney get thrown in. Whatever happened to good cartoons like Tom & Jerry? Animaniacs, Tailspin, Chip & Dale? Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Batman, Justice League Unlimited? Looney Toons (the old kind), Transformers, and cartoons like that?

People got... REALLY sensitive. All those cartoons you named could touch on pretty mature themes if they wanted to. When those sensitive types found out the subtext, they went "OMG HOW DARE YOU HINT AT THIS", and threatened the studios. Said studios went "Well, shoot. People don't like mature, so we'll just crank out a lot of younger stuff." Every so often, there would be (and still are) one or two that would not be that dumb, and people like them for it. Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Transformers: Animated, Transformers: Prime, Young Justice, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, to name a few.

+Aequitas 1995 I know of those, and I enjoy (or enjoyed if they finished/were canceled) them. My issue is not with those cartoons, but in the rarity of them. Children aren't stupid, but we treat them like they are when we put them in front of shows like Teen Titans GO! and SpongeBob, we teach them that we're stupid.

***** Amen to that. I never watched any of them until I was well into my teens, but even so, I can somewhat relate because, when I was really young, I watched Thomas the Tank Engine a lot. This was back when they were using stopmotion and toy trains to make the stories, which they stopped doing late in the 2000s to switch to a completely animated show. A smart move- but in the process, Thomas got dumber. Thomas, as a character, went from snarky to stuck-up. Instead of major accidents, the main engine of the episode would either (a) forget to do something, or (b) procrastinate on doing something, which would lead them to forget about it. Also, so many new characters are introduced that are nowhere to be found in the Railway Series, off which Thomas' adventures are loosely based. Many characters that are in the books are not on the show, even though Sodor has a ton of different railways. I apologize for the rant, but... I totally agree.

+Aequitas 1995 Don't apologize for rants. Many rants are worth reading/hearing. And I agree. I watched Powerpuff Girls and Yu-Gi-Oh growing up. Now look at them. Twerking and half-baked ideas...it's shameful. Granted, the shows I watched weren't always good, but at least I was able to learn things. Something to live by if anyone has kids/will have kids/watch cartoons in general: If you feel your brain cells are dying when you're watching a cartoon with children, theirs are too. Watch something stimulating for all ages. That way, children can rewatch them and get more out of it then just what they saw when they were kids.

superkami guru as much as I agree with your first statement, I have to respectfully disagree with your take on Steven Universe. It's a good show, just on a different level then the nostalgic cartoons.

The guy who voices Goliath is the same guy who voices Spawn from the animated series.

Gargoyles could get away with a lot but imagine what they could get away with on a Netflix series.

Gargoyles was great and still very watchable. Demona and Xanatos were really good villains as they had actual depth and character development. The group of voice actors was quite good.

This show was amazing and I recently rewatched it during lockdown. And yeah this show was full of Star Trek cameo voices.

Okay, "New York Metropolitan Sewer System" was a funny line. But if you really wanted to make New Yorkers laugh, you could've said "New York Subway System"

Gargoyles was my thing. I mean, I loved this show. I had to torrent all the seasons because there was no released official dvd of it. It's a good dark story and Goliath is badass.

Keith David's voice is so cool that he was also the voice of Spawn. He's one of the greatest voice actors in history along with Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Mel Blanc.

The real reason that gargoyles are outside during the day is they absorb sunlight in rock form. I believe it provides a little sustenance and also accelerates their healing. The three stooges and their 'dog' were only in the dark room because they were being punished.

I love this show, really loved all the world Mythology it went through in season 2.

Well there was some romance Between Eliza and Goliath, but for the most part, its been border flirting and the most part it was a deep friendhsip with mutual respect, since in a way Goliath's is also a cop( a Guardian), so they have much in common. But where the directors of the show where smart, is to show that even between them there could be misunderstandings and conflicts, since they still are different creatures and are from different times, in some episodes, i remember Eliza arguing wiht Goliath, of him been too over protective and overbearing and stuff, so they would'nt agree of 100% of the things, but they where capable of seeing things in the perspective of the other because both of them as a great deal of empathy. There was of course that time in season 3 i believe where for some reason( can't remember what) Goliath can turn into a human, or he's been turned into a human and his memories have been altered, and he live his life with Eliza has a couple, ebfore things goes back to normal. The show was alos pretty smart with his messages about a lot of subjects, it had layers of grey in a world where most cartoons goes the "Black or White" route, and they treated problems like Drugs addiction, deliquency, theft, fire arm security etc with good care and intelligence. Think of it as the Avatar Last Airbender of the 90's, except they never properly finished it...

Actually, the gargoyle dog is really a dog. *SPOILER ALERT* In one episode, the gargoyle team became human, but the humans became gargoyles through a magical mirror. This also affected the gargoyle and it turned out was an actual dog...

Would be great if they made a live action movie based on the awakening! They could even do a side story showing Demona and Macbeth

Disney did an excellent job with making this cartoon for older kids, and it even handled some really dark topics about trust, abuse, and even gun safety in mature ways. Wish they’d do more cartoons like this.

I never missed an episode. I wish Disney would make shows like this every time.

you just made me think of something. Demota and Zanatos (do not know if I spelled them right but oh well) working together and you said that Demota is like the Magneto of the show. So would you think Zanatos would be the Lex Luthor of the show? then think what would happen if Magneto and Lex Luthor ever teamed up. Wouldnt that send chills down your spine??

Also that's Kieth David who did Goliath in Gargoyles. Who does a lot of amazing voice work

I really wish he would redo this review. He focuses a lot on jokes that aren't funny and a lot of details he left out or got wrong. The Vikings invaded Castle Wyvern for the money. the princess's name is Katherine. Her friend is the Magus (I don't think he was ever given an actual name).

This show came out when I was in middle school and I fell in love with it! It sure helped that they had tons of voices from actors from Star Trek, another show I loved as a kid!

Gargoyles is now available to view in full on Disney+. I just rewatched all of season 1 and it really holds up.

"Humanity is our enemy, Goliath!" "Yeah, but we make such good porn. You got to give us that." XD

he's quick to assiciate it with Disney Afternoon, but Gargoyles first aired on ABC primetime. it was on at 8 pm. if that doesn't show how boss the company knew it was right from the get go, i mean, c'mon!

BathrobeKeck no it wasn't it started as an afternoon cartoon they moved to evenings.

I'm surprised that this franchise didn't survive or stay popular longer. It was a neat concept with characters that had far more depth than half the crap Disney churns out these days. It's basically a children's sit-com channel now with little effort put into animation or imagination anymore, both of which are what put Disney on the map to begin with. Having said that, I would love to see a live action or CG Gargoyles reboot if they did it right, as I believe the dark tone combined with a fleshed out cast would translate exceptionally into a real world setting. If not, maybe they could introduce an Avengers style TMNT crossover. Goliath vs Shredder, YEAH! :)

+Keith Harris I think they were trying to hold Greg back. He was giving a lo and they wanted him to have no say so and such and then gota new team of writers and some how was able to do everything and more then them they couldn't give him. He is still a bit ticked about that back when asked in 2002 as I can remember but he has the comics. I think they might be over as well

My absolute favorite area of the series was what was called the Avalon World Tour. Especially with the introduction of King Arthur

God i really miss that deep storys... Well actualy i find some on MLP when fans get really creativ and write down epic storys like you see them back in gargolyes

It can't be stressed how many trek actors and actresses were on this show, even if it was only one or two episodes. Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, and Nichelle Nichols. Kinda nuts. All they needed was Patrick Stewart and Wil Wheaton to make the complete set. But the fact that you had other actors like Tim Curry, John Rhys-Davies, and James Belushi. The talent packed into this show shows the attention to detail they did.

I just figured Goliath's and Elisa's kids would just be human during the day and turn to Gargoyles at night. The same thing happened to Demona at some point.

Yeah, but that was due to Puck's chicanery. Elisa and Goliath would have to make use of some magical/bioengineering jiggery-pokery to have kids. Or, you, know, adopt.

In Denmark, the "Disney Afternoon" was name "Disney Fun" and only showed for an hour on Fridays after the average dinner time (at 7 PM).

Went back to this video because of an announcement of turning it to live-action film. They have to do this one right with Jordan Peele on board to direct.

He stopped watching cartoons in high school I’m Almost heading out for college yet my love for cartoons is still strong

2:41 ☺️ God, when he says that line “I can scare those cowards away without any help”, it really gives me pleasurable eargasms. The hearing pleasure kind NOT the sexual pleasure kind. Just to be perfectly clear. Keith David has not only the coolest fricken voice but also the most badass voice ever. I can totally imagine him voicing Ganondorf for the new Legend of Zelda movie (if they decided to make it animated down the road).

Oh, by the way, I was online a few years back, and I found out that one of the original writers had been doing a comic book series continuing where the series left off from Season 2. It sounded pretty good from the things I've heard about it. Aaaaaand then he had to end the series early because suddenly Disney was demanding way more money to keep using the characters than he could afford. So as a final "screw you corporate asshats" he released a timeline and summary of future stories he'd been working on.
