My mother was sick my whole life, and died when I was barely grown. She couldn't make physical paths for or with us, but the paths she built in our hearts will never fade. Miss Cindy has left her body, but she hasn't left your hearts. It takes what it takes to grieve the loss of a loved one, and it's different with every loss. I appreciate your candor, sharing some of yours with us. They say pain shared is halved, but joy shared is doubled. May your joys outweigh your tears. ❤️‍🩹

@JBlackwell What a absolutely beautiful tribute to your precious Momma. To read your words, show the heart of who you are AND it shows just how beautiful, precious and loving your Momma was. She obviously was an amazing Mom, you honor her well. She would be so pleased and touched by your words and so proud of you!! Be blessed my sweet friend! Happy and safe 4th!

Tipper you never cease to amaze me. Your love of family, of Appalachia, of your garden, just of all of life but especially your love of God. You’re so wise so thanks for sharing that wisdom with us. It just makes my day to watch one of your videos. Your garden is so beautiful - you’ve inspired me to try growing veggies. Flowers are no problem but at 78, veggies are a little more work. So far I’ve planted tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe and all kinds of squash and pumpkins for the grandkids, green beans, peas, cucumbers and zucchini. Might be a little late but so far, so good. Now to control the weeds! Have arthritis so when I’m done for the day, I can hardly walk but it’s been worth it. You’re such a beautiful person - from the inside out! Take care and may God continue to richly bless you and your family❣️

Tell Katie to make a memorial garden for Mrs. Cindy, maybe even her Pap . Maybe bring some of her flowers she loved and some outside garden trinkets and a metal bench. That way, Matt and all of you can just step outside and sit and remember the ones you love and miss and reminisce.

I did that too. I have a plant that represents each family member, one is inherited from my nana herself which I love, yarrow. I've made it into my medicinal herbs garden, so physical medicine comes from there. And I made sure everything self-sows so its everlasting.

To borrow from Shakespeare and Elvis, this world is just a stage that we all must play our part. One day the curtain will come down on us and we’ll be in a land where we’ll never grow old with those who’ve gone on before us! Sweet Beulah Land from Squire Parsons comforts us all! Praying that God gives you comfort in the coming days with His Sweet, Sweet Spirit! ❤🙏

I grow flowers in memory of relatives. Since I lost over 20 family friends since 2016 it helps me to cope I lost my father at sixteen this year will be 50 years. But they are all still with me and always will be. Lost my only sibling a sister in 2021 I have felt so alone but plant a flower and I remember every time when I see that flower and I have lots of birds many cardinals it warms my heart.

This was everything Tipper. My Daddy has been gone since 1999 and I remember helping him harvest his corn and beans almost every year. What I regret is not listening enough to all of his gardening tips. My parents were divorced when I was 11 and couldn't be more different! My Mama was more "city" and I lived with her. She and I would dance alot, cook and she taught me a lot. My Dad was a country boy and loved to garden, horses and he was a carpenter and could build anything! I wish I could have spent more time with him to learn more about growing food. He called me one evening and was so excited about his corn coming up and wanted me to drive 30 miles to come and feel his corn leaves LOL. I was about 20 then and had little time for corn feeling, Ha Ha. We had a good laugh and I'M m laughing now writing this. I miss my Dad so much, even all these years later. I loved your story about paths, we all need more of those especially now... God bless y'all.

You talking about the path’s brought tears to my eyes. It brought back the memories of the paths at both my grandparents. My pa had his path to the garden. You could leave the bicycle anywhere in the yard other than pa’s path. Then I had my path, the path that lead from my house to my pap’s, when I was a child I was fortunate enough to live beside him kind of like you live next to granny. How I wish I could walk that path and sit on the porch with my pap again. Thank you for sparky my memories, made me smile and tear up. What special memories.

In the city there are paths taken over the years. Also, there is change. Buildings the are no longer there and in some places new buildings also old and new homes. When I make it back to my old neighborhood I don't recognize it. But we have our memories and we reminisce with friends and family. Tell stories to the younger generations. Life is beautiful.

How beautiful that your garden was flourishing in your absence. As you’ve said many times, seeds just want to grow. I’m sorry so many of your tomato plants died! Such a shame. Katie’s garden patch is going to be so gorgeous. Out of her grief comes beauty. Thank you for the garden tour, you are so close to reaping the rewards. By the way, your carrots look so good. You’ve really done it this time!❤️🇨🇦

Hi Tpper, this is Judy in knoxville. I hope you still remember me. You have been through a lot lately so if you don't, I understand. Death is very hard for all of us. My step daughter passed on June 7th from pneumonia that affected her brain. The family pulled her life support and we was with her when she went home to Jesus, she was a born again child of God so I know I will see her again. We still miss her dearly. I have been watching and listening to you and your family go through the same things we are experiencing, but I do think God is near. Thank you Jesus! This is the first time for me to talk about everything without breaking down. Your family was very helpful for me through all of this. I feel alittle better just putting things into words. You don't know how helpful you are to a lot of people. I compare my garden to yours to see if my is OK. Sorry for the book I just wrote. I am thankful for you and your family. God bless you all. Keep the videos coming, they are great. Judy in knoxville.

We can green tomatoes. They are so good in the winter. We would pick tomatoes that were getting to big and was ripe but not real ripe. I would wrap them in News paper and store them on a board, do not stack them, place in a cool place. Unwrap a tomato a day before you want to eat it. We would be eating tomatoes in December.

I loved the tour of your garden, thanks for sharing it with us. It’s winter here in Australia and I live in the desert and my veg garden is full of pumpkins, sweet potatoes, chard, cauliflowers, kale and cabbages. But everything is slow this year, last year at this time we were eating the cauliflowers and cabbages, but they are still weeks away this year. My nasturtiums are flowering and the bees are loving them. Gardening is still a bit of mystery to me, and always a learning experience.

Your garden is so beautiful, Tipper...so lush and green! You are sure to be blessed with a bountiful harvest this year. Not sure if you've heard of it, but there is an app that lets you listen to birds and it tells you what bird is singing and talking...the app is called Merlin...it's a very neat and fun app to have if you love listening to the birds!! Katie's little garden bed is so pretty too with those creek rocks. Your deep pondering over the paths and gardening is quite insightful and definitely has me thinking of these kinds of paths in my own life. As always, thank you for sharing your garden beauty with us!!☺

Enjoyed this so much Tipper. Thanks for showing us the progress. Gardens sometimes have to raise themselves while life moves on and yours was doing its best to make you proud while ya'll were tending to Ms. Cindy. I like your stories about the paths there at the end. Made me think a lot about the paths my family used to make and now that I make with my neighbors and little grandson who lives only a few doors down.

Tipper you folks have such a beautiful place, the hills are peaceful. As I mentioned I miss NH mountains, the peace and magical views. I ordered and planted nasturtium's. I'm excited to see the blooms. Katie should have a green house just for flowers. I know there's sadness. There will be peace in the valley. Hug's from VA 🙏❣️

Our former property owner planted St. John’s wort. It is inside our tree line in our woods underneath giant trees. Apparently they do well in shade because the bush is six feet wide. Until recently ours didn’t have any blooms on it. Not a single sign of flowers. I figured they must not bloom every year. Then I read that the bush got its name from St John the Baptist day on June 24th. It said they are always in bloom on that day. Sure enough, right on schedule, it was filled with blooms on June 24th. When used in a tincture or infused oil, the blooms turn the liquid a purplish red. Very pretty. If the flowers are ripe for using as a medicinal remedy you can roll a yellow bloom in between your fingers and it will leave a purplish red mark.
