I know!! How does that happen? My mother used to tell me that the older you get the faster time goes. I thought she was crazy when I was younger. Now I get it. 😏
Ken Curtis (Festus) died in 1991 heart attack while he slept. 74 years old. His body was cremated and his ashes spread across the Colorado flat lands. I remember him most for being in the singing group "Sons Of The Pioneers". My Momma loved that group. He had a beautiful voice. If you don't remember them, look them up. You would enjoy their music. Matt is going to have to get a red plaid lumberjack shirt and a blue bull named Babe if he cuts all those logs. (LOL) God bless you and yours!
Thanks for the video tonight. Many prayers for Granny and wisdom for her doctors. God bless you all.
Forest bathing is a new one on me! I'm like you, Tipper. The first thing that came to my mind was going to the creek and taking a bath, which I used to do. My dad, being an outdoorsman, I was raised in the woods. I'm blessed to have a husband that way, too. We've got a home in the country that's mostly wooded that's got some beautiful places that I too like to go and clear my mind , pray and enjoy the beauty of God's creation. I feel close to Him there. Still praying for Granny and that God will give her doctors wisdom in treating her. 🙏
I have never heard of forest bathing either. We had acreage up north, loved it. Our daughter since birth was going up with us, she was taught at a very young age everything you can thinking’ about the woods. We then moved East of Michigan to a small town called East China, MI on ten acres. It was a double blessing for us. But Rebecca our daughter is now teaching her daughters 1 and 5 years old the goodness of the outdoorsy part of the woods. Very blessed, and so are you all ❤️🙏❤️
I love Granny’s spunk and determination! This young generation could use a page from her book! God fleas her and prayers.❤❤❤❤
The mountains are where my peace is. Hearing rain coming toward you thru the trees is just the best! 💪🙏Granny is tough. 🥰
I loved your chatting about the serenity you find up in the woods. I am also a fan of nature and of mountains. Many people say they find peace at the beach; I am truly at peace in the presence of mountains. They make make me and any problem I have seem miniscule by comparison and help to keep me humble. One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 121: 1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help. I wish I lived closer to the part of the Appalachian range that passes through Massachusetts. Mountains will figure into my plans to relocate after I retire. God bless you for the gratitude you have for being in your part of the world.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the kind words!
My husband, while in the Navy, taught Land Survival Training, from 1991 to 1994. They had live animals on display. There were squirrels, raccoon, deer, ducks, snapping, and regular turtles, a fox and lots of snakes and an alligator. There was a green house and outdoor plants and many shelter examples done from logs and Parachutes. The idea of this training was to give the aircrew and a chance at survival after a crash till they could be rescued. There was 1day of in class training. The next 3 days and 2 nights were in the woods of North Florida. You would be surprised how many people have never been in the woods or seen animals we would consider everyday experiences. We didn't grow up in the country. But there were plenty of wooded areas or state parks near us.
I suppose there is a difference between people who say woods and forest. I used to sit for hours with my dog sleeping against my leg in the woods soothing my soul. Once a little wood thrush sang a quiet song while it dug in the leaves next to me. Pure magic..
Prayers for Granny. I love being in the woods. I grew up playing in the woods. My first "horse" was a partially fallen tree that I could sit on and ride. I have heard of forest bathing and earthing/grounding which is going barefoot. I'm 67 and glad I got to experience a kinder gentler world. I grew up in Georgia and am very proud of my Southern Heritage.
So I had to Google it, and forest bathing started in Japan about 50 years ago. The Japanese take all aspects of health and well being very seriously, and what they mean by forest bathing is being out amongst trees, observing the nature around you while breathing deeply. You are very lucky that you can just walk out your door and find peaceful woods! I'm a city girl, and a creature of convenience so I love having many things close by, but I find such peace watching your videos with you and Matt sitting outside and chatting. One of my favorite videos of yours is when you all are walking alongside a creek, just the sounds bring me peace. Thank you for sharing!

When spoke if how you learned the term "forest bathing " reminded me of the day I asked our second grandson, who is 13 now and has highly functioning autism, why he chooses to go to our woods to work with grandpa instead of going or doing something else. He kinda shocked me when he said that it puts him at peace😊 It always makes me feel that too and he made me so happy to know that he felt the same way! He learned how to use the weed eater for the first time this summer and has proven that it is his tool of choice this summer. Grandpa turned him loose with it and he did a fantastic job cleaning up the undergrowth of our woods❤ ❤
I guess I’ve been forest bathing all my life. I just knew it as enjoying the beauty and solitude of nature. It sure is good for the spirit.
I grew up playing in the woods and pastures, such wonderful memories.

Tipper, I don’t know how in the world you get done what you do in a day. I’m still continuing to pray for Granny 🙏🏼❤️ Matt, Buy the Splitter!!!!!! It’s way too hard on your shoulders and joints. I love Festus too! My favorite Western was The Rifleman. I Loved the beginning.
That Granny is something else, going out to eat and how good for Katie to have a fun outing with Granny and Uncle Paul. That simple thing will be with Katie forever. Nothing better than family! Have a good week dear Tipper and Matt. ❤🙏 Oh Tipper I hope you and Jim do that book!
We're in rural TX and we battle armadillos. I'm torn when husband has to get 'em,because they're sort of 'so ugly they're cute'. When they get together here they'll really tear things up, especially when there's drought and poor things are just trying to get by. I ENJOYED THIS, as I always do. THANK YOU! 🙌🏼 💞
I feel blessed that I have experienced the forest/mountains of Appalachia, the smokie mountains, Bavarian alps and more. To me they all have their own particular solace. Glad you are still finding a little bit here and there from your garden. Continue prayers for Granny. Thanks Matt and Tipper for sharing your life with all of us!
Nice coloured flowers in the garden just before you both sat down together to talk, just like the colours of the popsicles you both had! As ever, another nice and industrious update.

Thank you so much 😊
Hearing Matt say the splitter has split it's last log, reminded me, several years ago my brother had been mowing with the riding mower. After a few hours he went in the house for some ice water. After taking a good break, he went back to go get some more mowing done. And his mower wouldn't start. He walked back in the house and calmly got his pistol. His wife and youngest son started asking what ya doing, he didn't say anything. He stepped out on the back porch and filled the mower full of holes LOL He's a nut 😝😜🤪
Never heard the term forest bathing. But I loved to find a place in the woods to sit and listen. Love also sitting on the porch just listening to all the sounds. God Bless to all
I was never really afraid of the dark, but I was always wondering when I was going to step on a big 'ol copperhead. 😮 Walked in the pitch dark many times. The good Lord kept me safe. Great video! Thanks for sharing! 😊

I'm so scared of snakes we killed a big Copperhead in our yard about a week ago. they are very dangerous and aggressive my husband's aunt got bite about a month ago on the hand weeding her flower bed she ended up having to be flown out and spent two weeks or more in hospital. Her hand and arm swelled so bad it turned black all the way up to shoulder. The Dr. Was worried she was going to lose her arm but thank God she didn't she sure had a rough time.

Never heard the term Forrest Bathing, but it doesn't surprise me that it's a thing. Like you mentioned if you've always been blessed having access to nature like that, we can sometimes take it for granted. Y'all worked hard again today, and fall has arrived. Continued prayers for the Wilson-Presley clans.❤
basking in the glorious woods - taking it all in. Back in the 1890-1900-s city people would take great pains to get out of the city to get into the natural world - it soothes your soul.
My favorite saying from Festus Haggin' was when Festus was talking to a bad Guy. Festus would say "Don't you make one wrong move Mr. or yule be as dade as last years bird's nest." I will remember that for the rest of my Life, it always brings a smile to me. When I was younger I would take green horns into the deep woods of West Virginia and one of the Guys would call the experience "Wilderness saturation experience." He was called a "Hippy " back then and He loved the Wilderness. Thanx for sharing Tipper, God bless. 😃
Tipper, I am 75 and went barefoot in my young days in the country. That is now called "earthing" and is considered a real health benefit.😊🎉

When I was a little girl in Tennessee I went barefoot all summer. Most kids did even though we were on the outskirts of Memphis. I’ll be 75 in January 😊
My goodness, I hadn't really thought about urban people who have never experienced the forest. I live in PA, which is very green outside of the cities. I grew up running around our woods with my best friend, catching crickets and looking for salamanders. Listening to the trees and feeling the dappled sunlight on us.❤
I’ve heard about tree bathing in Japan, not here in Costa Rica. Nature is a source of blessing, peace and health. No doubt about it! I just have one tree in my tini tiny back yard and I am truly grateful for it. ☺️❤️🌳🇨🇷 Blessings to all your family.
I love the forest too , one of the special blessings from the Lord 🌿. I love listening to you both visiting, so peaceful and enjoyable 🌿.
Forrest Bathing. The Word is new to me. But my family down south North Carolina always bath in the creek. Just old as the moon and the stars. I had a great time with you and Matt.❤ Love y'all
My husband and I always saying we need to go forest bathing. It’s supposed to be healthy for you. You get oxygen from the trees and of course it is so relaxing. Wish we lived in the woods.
I am an Appalachian born and raised. Love you and your family and all the recipes, cooking, gardening, singing, stories and teaching others Appalachian sayings! ❤ praying God's blessings on y'all and thanking God for people like you.

Never heard of forest bathing. In my part of Appalachia Ohio, we don't say forest, we say woods. That term forest bathing, sounds like something a city slicker would come up with. Sending prayers for Granny. Bless you all.
There is nothing better than being in familiar woods. Somehow after you sit in your forest you find tons of new things... and that makes it more your forest. It is so funny how the people of today act like they just discovered something new by sitting in the woods. I was like you Tipper, and I bet a few of your trees have taken the brunt of being mad at something like mine have. My favorite saying when my daughter was mad at one of her friends or something or me...I would tell her to just go kick a tree! She always came back in a better mood after roaming thru the woods. I know I do too. Shaking my head---forest bathing...lol We just called it getting back to nature or gonna go have a talk with God. Praying for Granny...

Forest Bathing like Sun Bathing... never thought of it like that but it does make sense.. Something we love to do❣️💕
Great video. Forest bathing and dirt therapy. Best things in life. Blessings everyone.
I think Matt would be the perfect person to take a group of people "forest bathing". Only because he knows everything there is to know about the forest. I mean that as a compliment. Never heard of the phrase. My MIL watches Gunsmoke and Wagon Train everyday along with lots of other old TV shows and Waterns.
Prayers for granny God's our healer. I had uterus cancer a few weeks ago all praise to God they got it all .. Falon Moss was telling how she bought your cookbook. God's so wonderful having christian utubers. Blessings

We moved to the Missouri Ozarks a couple years ago. "Forest bathing," or whatever you want to call it, was something that is a LOT easier to do here than where we used to live. The hills and hollers around us are always available. We live in a little town of about 1300 people, surrounded by hills and woods. Yeah, this is where I was meant to live the last years of my life (I'm 74, and love where we are).
I had not heard of forest bathing but have done it my entire life. I am sure to many it is a new and wonderful adventure. To me it is like homesteading, for us it is just a way of life. It is how we have been brought up to live. We have gardens and deer hunt. We love you and your family and pray for you all
"Forest Bathing" made me chuckle the same way Matt did. I've been trompin' around in the woods since I was a kid. Even now, as an adult, there's nowhere I feel more at peace. My favorite place to be is on a hike with my dogs. I've even been considering whether or not I could do the Appalachian Trail, how I would do it, how much of it I think I could handle. I need a good bit of solitude to stay balanced, and there's no better place than in the woods! ❤
Forest Bathing is a Japanese concept called "Shinrin-yoku." It's all about communing with the forests in a natural way - sights, sounds, feelings, and breathing. The trees will communicate with us if we'll take the time to slow down and listen. I like to practice Shinrin-Yoku here in Northern Kentucky. It soothes the soul and reminds us that we are a part of Nature and that all things are connected. BTW, my family are Western North Carolina transplants to Northern Kentucky. They're from Tuckasegee, NC. We love your KZread channel and celebrate Appalachia in our hearts.. I suspension thar ain't no tother way... 🙂
love watching yall sit and chat. reminds me of me and my late husband. it's still in the mid eighties here in middle tn.
Gun Smoke is our favorite...watch it everyday. Festus is my Favorite...and he was really a talented singer also. Guess, we've seen them all, but I dont mind the reruns. Continued prayers for Granny. It's never easy getting older but a blessing to be able to do so. ❤
Love hearing Matt tell stories, memories, and indeed - always wisdom, always a takeaway. Appreciated.
I would call it a forest soaking. Like soaking it all in. Looking forward to seeing the trees change their colors. Have a happy day!
I think we are en-mass seeking to be closer to the land, and that’s why forest bathing, growing, preserving and the like have resurged
Amen nothing is made to last anymore
People from Missouri talk like that too. Not so much as when I was younger. My husband and I love all the old westerners. I never watch regular TV. When I lived in the country I loved going to the pond or out on a trail and just lay down and soak it all in the sun, the air and the sounds. When or girls were small i would pack up the truck with sleeping bags, cooler and snacks and drive out to the pasture and sleep out there. We did have a dog that watched over us. The girls and I loved it, felt peace and comfort. Tipper you sound like you don't feel good 😢 Take care. ❤🙏

Wow! It's amazing that you're still getting such big beans out of your garden. I'm excited to hear what they taste like. Please tell Granny we are continuing to pray for her. When i had breast cancer/chemo and radiation, they gave me some good medicine (pills) for nausea that really worked quickly for me. I think the main reason I didn't get too bad sick from the treatments was all the people praying for me. I know that Granny certainly has thousands of folks praying for her! So much love to you all. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. Forest bathing is a new term for me. I thought it was going to be literally bathing/showering outside. (There are lots of homes at the beach that have outside showers and I thought that was cool.) ❤🙏Jane in SC
Grew up in the city. My Dad was always ready to go outdoors. Hunting and fishing. Never heard of the term. Thanks Tipper! And Matt!
Festus on Gunsmoke cracks me up with some of his string of words 😂😂😂
I have never heard the term forest bathing, but it’s sounds so peaceful.
" I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." I've lived my whole life down in the flatlands, but as young as I can remember, going up to the mountains has felt like coming home. In my teens and young adulthood, if I went for longer than a month without getting into the forest, I felt like a dry sponge. When I was older and had more family responsibilities, I couldn't get there as often, but I still went 4 or 5 times a year. It was like a hunger in my soul. Standing in a grove of tall trees is more spiritual than any cathedral to me. Since I've been housebound, I haven't been able to go, but I can close my eyes and smell the pine and cedar scented air, hear the wind come soughing down the from the peaks through the trees, and I'm there in my imagination. The way Matt reacted to "forest bathing" is about my reaction when I heard about "earthing." Turns out that means standing or walking barefoot on dirt, which is supposed to have miraculous healing properties. For the first half of my life, I seldom wore shoes unless it was required by law. My sisters were the same way. Our mother despaired of us. 😄 If my grandmother fussed about our wearing white shoes after Labor Day, my mother would say it was all she could do to get us to wear any shoes (which was true).

I guess "forest-bathing" would be similar to sunbathing at the beach with the sound and smells of the ocean...I get the same feeling at the beach as I do in the mountains...just peace, calm, stillness, introspection. I get that feeling too when I'm walking along our lanes surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of grassland and can see mountain ranges all around in the distance.
Awe, he's so appreciative.
Y’all remind me of my mom and my daddy, they always had a huge garden. They never made us children work in the garden because my mama was born in 1923 my father was born in 1918 a mother grew up in hogback Mountain North Carolina. She had to work so hard in the gardens growing up that she never made us but now I wish she sort of did because we don’t know what to do and I sure do miss her. mother told me that she had to work in the garden just like a grown man she said, soon as she could walk. She had to help her daddy. She was the oldest, she’ll take care of all the children, and more she had to get up at night to take care of the kids she was a step child of the other children, so she wasn’t treated as well, she had such a hard life she didn’t want us to be raised like. her. she wanted us to be a child and play . she never did get to play. That’s so sad to me..
Praying for all of you, especially granny. Thanks for sharing your day.❤
Armadillos dig up our landscaping looking for grubs. We hunt them in the dark to keep them from tearing up our yard and landscape. They also try to dig under our front porch, too.
I wondered how granny was doing I hope she has really good report when she go's back to doctor ❤thank yall for showing the great things come from yall garden 😀 and God bless everyone 😀
Never have heard of forest bathing. I grew up in the woods and when I go farther back I call it going to get my “woods therapy”😂
I share Matt's thoughts on Forest Bathing. I heard it, coincidentally, the first time last night reading the info of a PBS travel show where he went to Oregon. Once again, our culture has pushed out what God has given us in the name of progress and how we know better how to live with synthetic chemicals and concrete. Now, some are waking up to it and seems like a no-brainer to us. I see how many young families are homesteading and homeschooling and I think that it is good. Hopefully it sticks because it is hard work. I love Chester, he was so whiny. Lol. Have a great week! ❤❤
We just finished watching all 20 seasons of Gunsmoke on dvd. We’re going to start over.
I'm from New York city. The closes I ever come to woods was our summer all day picnic . 2 hr drive 6am till night I would wonder off in the woods. Little chipmunks would come and I swear I saw faries
I figured it meant soaking up the beauty in the mountains, hiking, etc.
My husband says thats his going to church he goes and talks to god all i do is walk outside and take a deep breathe my granparents bought the land we live on 85yrs ago i feel them and god
Ken Curtis(Festus) was in the movie the Quiet Man movie. He was Dermot Fahy(uncredited) and sang in the movie. Had a wonderful voice. The Quiet Man is my favorite movie. Also, we own interest in a 300+ acre farm in WV. It has been on the family for at least 150+ years. Although no one lives there now there is definitely a different feeling when we are there. A connection to our ancestors who lived and worked the land. Wonderful feeling!!!
Love watching your KZread I love watching you and Matt and the girls I feel like you all are family. I know you have a lot of people saying the same thing. Keep posting your KZread
Never heard of that one, lol. I'm like you Tipper, I immediately thought of taking a bath in the forest, lol. I've never actually called "the woods" a forest though, lol. If I had to call it anything, I would probably say "getting back to nature", or "going out in the woods". It's just not a "thing" here to be called anything really. It's just something that you do 😊

I've never heard "forest bathing," but I know what it means and feels like. I live in the great north woods where we are basically all woods, and this is a wonderful time of the year--high color and no bugs. I, too, love the chilly air and nights, and up here, most of us love winter, too--all 6 or 7 months of it. Good sleeping weather. Great video. God bless you all and Granny.
Yes, I have heard of forest bathing. It is usually mentioned when talking about societies or peoples with long lifespans. Forest bathing is a stress reliever and stress reduces our quality of life and longevity.

I love watching Gunsmoke when I was a kid I use to say Matt Dillon was my dad!❤️
I enjoyed the visit again. We finally got a nice rain last week so things are starting to green up again a little. Tomatoes and beans are all that's left in the garden. We've had cool mornings lately but warm temps in mid day. I admired your glider so we bought one on clearance a few weeks ago. Couldn't help but notice the squawk in yours in this video. Ours was doing the same thing, and apparently we had tightened one of the nuts too much. Discovered which one it was and loosened it and that did away with the squawk. Like you, I get away for a while and take a walk on the prairie meadows to enjoy the nature around me, although I would surely enjoy a walk along a clear flowing stream in the mountains. Still praying for Granny and you all.
