It’s no surprise that upgrading the lighting in your shop will give you the best bang for the buck and visible results of just about anything you do. My shop was in dire need of some additional light. It could best be described as cave-like. I found some great inexpensive Barrina LED lights on Amazon that definitely won’t break the budget while providing huge improvements in lighting and wanting to be out there in the garage.

Let’s talk about the Barrina lights for a moment. These are 4’ LED lights that come with all the pieces to either hard wire them in or plug them into a normal 110 outlet. They come with the jumper wires to Daisy chain them together so that you can make a string of them from 1 power source. There is a limit to how many can be chained together, but I ran out of room before I found that number.
The mounting hardware essentially holds onto the little grooves in the side of the light and come with a wood screw for most normal mounting situations. This is not a normal one as I’m going into the metal structure of the shop. I tried to use self drilling screws, which worked great right up until I realized they are physically too tall at the head. The head prevents the light from sitting in quite far enough into the bracket… What does any self respecting gear head have in their box at easy access? Zip Ties! Since I will be going through the electrical system of this shop, I will be moving these later. I don’t feel bad about using zip ties here as a temporary solution to get me by for now.
I used wire nuts on one set of lights and the plug arrangement on the other, mostly because it’s what was easy to accomplish. For the minimal cost and effort I put into the install of these lights, I’m very pleased with how it turned out and I now have enough light to be able to function. This will definitely get me by until I do some more electrical work.
