I volunteered at a convention one year and I remember being tasked with guarding an empty vendor table filled with Billy Mitchell merchandise(this was before I knew who he was). The table was filled with expired hotsauce and other shit with his face on it. Me and another volunteer cracked jokes about how narcissistic this guy was for putting his mug on everything. Little did we know was that this table was bought and being staffed by Mitchell, who after leaving the restroom, glared us down.

And this is where I have a problem with this video...it is completely diminishing what Billy Mitchell has done. Are Billy Mitchell and Walter Day shady as shit? Sure, no problem, but the video acts like Mitchell has "no skills" which is clearly far from the truth. Did anybody accuse Billy Mitchell of faking the perfect pac man run? "The King of Kong" is a great film which essentially drives home this exact point: villains like Billy Mitchell frequently, unfortunately, thrive in this world while legitimately talented people, like Steve Weibe, inevitably struggle. This video references that film a few times. It's hard to tell if Karl Jobst is implicating it in Mitchell's lies, judging from some of his statements here. If so, I would strongly disagree. It's obvious (I feel) the filmmakers behind "The King of Kong" believe Mitchell is a total twat and were in no way in league with him. Great film though. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Billy Mitchel looks like he's gonna shut down Grandpa's bakery and it's up to you and your roller blades friends to stop him.

Any complaints or questions about him or his scores were ignored or dismissed. What really changed things is when Twin Galaxies accepted a dispute resolution process for scores where the truth couldn't be covered up easily anymore. But the thing that really made it possible to finally go after Billy Mitchell was his close friend (and former TG official) Todd Rogers finally being exposed as a total fraud. After Todd Rogers had been proved to be a cheat, they just couldn't ignore all the old Twin Galxies scandals anymore.

Like, I understand cheat codes, for when you just want to check a game out or just for fun, but why would you want to dominate a multiplayer game by cheating? Where's the satisfaction in that? You haven't really DONE anything, except ruin the game for other people. I just don't understand why people would want to do that.

Also, some people are just dicks.

I too ordered the "Gamer of the Century" Billy Michell knife. I still don't understand why the convience store clerk gave me such a strange look when I demanded all the money from the register. I might have to sharpen the damn thing into a shiv for the 3 years of prison I got. The damn "knife" just kept bouncing off the clerk's skin. My favorite part about this whole thing is the fact that TG didn't even accuse him of cheating in the first place; all they said was that it wasn't on original hardware (which if he didn't know, really sucks, and if he did know, is fucked up). And then it turned into... this.

Even if a single one of the larger claims holds up its still a big deal because of the use of position of power to attain personal financial gains- also known as conflict of interest- that means the failure to recuse themselves and use an independent arbitrator to moderate the situation of Mr. Mitchells high scores is tantamount to insider trading. The damages amount? Most opening damages sought are changed, they have to set an initial bar to indicate the seriousness they believe their case holds with a number which they contend the transgressions could be measured against. So, what gets tossed and why?

Making a lawsuit with a penalty as high as his alleged scores is a nail to the coffin

There's some new drama regarding Apollo now, like how he hasn't returned money to people that supported him in the Mitchell case's Gofundme, but that's another story.

Problem is, once that becomes a part of financial fraud they might get interested in making sure everyone knows they had no conscious involvement. In an extreme case, they could sue for damage to their public image and reputation, but I highly doubt it. Mitchell is a niche influence in a niche hobby, there are better things to do than chase him.

The fact that Billy was co-owner of TG is either something I missed when I watched King of Kong. It now makes so much sense.

This is the guy who held the record in Donkey Kong until someone else came along and beat it then he immediately sent a updated score in a video tape, scoring higher, and the people who did the scoring accepted it whilst going over the other guy with a fine tooth comb to make sure he wasn't cheating. Right? If so they never held him to the same standard as the newcomer and didn't do the proper checks. Sounds like corruption to me.

I don't think Billy Mitchel ever scored higher than 900,000. His record was an older record of around 870,000. His attempts after that were falsified to squash real records by other players. Billy Mitchel is a hack. Even if he was an okay player, there are legitimately better players without the garbage personality who are not cheaters.
