Assassin's Creed games are not strictly historically accurate. They incorporate historical events and figures into their narratives, but also take creative liberties and add fictional elements to enhance the storytelling and gameplay. The games are meant to be entertaining and immersive, rather than a strict history lesson. So, it's not necessarily a problem if the portrayal of events in the game doesn't perfectly reflect historical truth.

@awesomeok960 said: As a Japanese, I must criticize Ubisoft. They chose a black protagonist for a samurai character in their game. Also, they mentioned that the black guy, Yasuke, was a samurai in Japan, which is wrong in true Japanese history. It seems that no one has done proper historical research, nor an amateur researcher has done it. There was no black samurai in Japan. In Japan, there were several black slaves taken by Portuguese or Spanish missionaries. When Nobunaga Oda, the ruler of Japan at that time, saw the black people for the first time, he was so curious about their looks, such as skin color, curly hair, tall height, and robust body. Nobunaga was happy to buy one of them from the missionaries and give him a Japanese name, Yasuke. Yasuke served only as Nobunaga's porter or bodyguard, not a samurai, and he stayed in Japan for only one year. French people are known for their severe racism. I guess the French at the French company, Ubisoft, and the Canadians of Quebec, Canada, where the production company is located, thought that "Japanese people would not be offended" and decided to make the main character a black man who had been in Japan for only one year as a sword-bearer.

These woke AAA devs are always so focused on african characters in not-african settings, almost as if they feel disgust towards their native aesthetic, that's they always fantasize about black characters having occupied important posts in foreign societies all this time. Blacks in european crowns, blacks as officers in the Roman Empire, a black samurai... If it exists, they idealize the shit out of it, and if not, they make it up.

They even had the gall to send hype packages to Japanese streamers, only to have said streamers point out that the "Japanese" writing they put on the box / figurine didn't even make any sense, and they got some crucial details wrong on the figurine which further detracts from the already-loose history they're trying to reference. Aka : Yasuke's wearing the wrong symbol on which master he's serving under. If we ever needed a legit example of a game committing cultural appropriation, it would be this. Ubisoft deserves the boycott.
