@@MortismalGamingI’m so happy for you. 😊 When you have a talent that you obviously possess, making a living out of it. That’s special. Keep it up Mortem!
What I love about this channel is the mature, calm, honest, and personal commentary. TBH I don't actually play a lot of single player games (I have a short attention span and give up easily in RPGs), but I watch every single video because of the content. I am also adopted and, while it isn't related to any trauma with my biological parents (whom I don't know), I appreciate the honesty in describing the emotional ties you have to these games. I may become a convert to SP yet! 😊

It's such a refreshing change 😊 I played lots of FPS last year with friends overseas which I wouldn't change a thing, but ever since the new year I've invested time into singleplayer games and I have no regrets! Games like BG3, Resident Evil series, Souls series etc. It's great to take time back for yourself and wind down on games you want to without the burden of other people's schedules! Best of luck with everything you got this!

Final Fantasy 12 is such an underrated game in the series. Probably the most successful attempt at modernizing traditional JRPG combat while still keeping it recognizable, some of the best exploration in the series, a really unique progression system, just a very engrossing game.
@sorceproject
18 күн бұрын
Nonsense criticisms of the game by reviewers hurt its reputation in the West. The gambit system was criticized for allegedly making the game too easy, by "playing itself". Vaan was viewed as a late addition and self-insert slate. He was thought largely irrelevant to the story. What this tells me is that the reviewers of the time failed to appreciate an elegant realtime-with-pause system and also missed most of the character development.
@jhorvat01
18 күн бұрын
What I disliked about FF12 as it had been released and I played it, there was no real protagonist. Vaan leads the story, but loses it's focus as a MC and get's replaced by Balthier (storywise). After I replayed the game 15 years later, I liked that shift.

The combat system is great, but I like 4, 6, 7, 9, and 10 better which is probably why it's "underrated". Game kind of sucks story-wise compared to all of those games. It's so dry and boring.

For me personally couldn't get Immersed at all. I could maybe see it in the main quest, but I feel the world is very lacking in Immersion past that. Of course this is with only 30 or so hours in the game so I couldn't actually say much about the main story. So I can only say the side activities and other parts of the little of the world I explored was just very non-immersive.

My birth father was also in and out of jail my whole life. My step father, my dad, was also a gamer and its how we often and still do bond. We started with old ms dos games from commander keen to space quest to civilization series. To the ps3 era when I was leaving high school. He was in the military and we didnt get a lot of time together. So when big releases would come out, he would buy them and let me skip school the next day or two and we would take turns going through them. My mom always gave him crap for it but it was worth it. The last time we did this was when my mom went to visit her mother and she specifically told my dad to not buy a ps3. He dropped her off at the airport and came home with one. We played God of War, Assasins creed, Cod4 MW, and uncharted for nearly 2 weeks. Those were good times. Sadly he went a bit over board on religion and flat earth and we dont talk like we used to.....

That’s nuts!!! My 8yr old daughter and I took 250hrs to see the end credits then she wanted to beat Ganon one more time lol! Theres something about that game that, while it might be not the best game objectively, is just so special and ethereal and memorable. My #1, mostly for the aesthetic and OST and the gambit system.
Can't agree more on Cyberpunk. The writers on that game really need all the recognition. It immersed me without me even realizing it because every interaction big and small felt organic.
@TurdF3rguson

Yeah, I also feel like the city itself is very immersive. Riding around at night and looking up at those huge buildings really imparts this sense that Night City has a lot going on behind the scenes. This might sound weird, but one stand out moment for me was when I decided to climb up on the ledge of this building, then saw another one higher up, and kept going for what must have been about 10 stories. I jumped onto the balcony of a building across from me, and there were all these NPC's walking around, an elevator that I could have just taken in the first place, and another street up here that I recognized from earlier. Something about that amount of verticality and interconnectedness just makes it feel like a real place.
I love that FF12 is one of your favs because of the time spent with your dad. He sounds like a great dad and I’m glad appreciate him so much.
I thought to myself that CP 2077 was going to end up as another Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines situation (horrific launch, much maligned, then people came around to the gem underneath) and I'm glad I was right. Listening to Mike Pondsmith on the in-game radio talking about in-universe conspiracy theories while cruising around one of the coolest cities in all of video games is top immersive.
That bit about your father really hit home. Dads are so important, and I'm grateful you had someone to step into that pivotal role for you during your most impressionable years.
Oblivion is also my favorite elder scrolls game and I really get that feeling of being lost in it. Whenever I'd talk about it with my friends it was like this endless magical game that I could play forever. I'll always love oblivion lol I try to play it once a year.

i was replaying oblivion, but its not for me, it commits one of the biggest sins in rpgs for me, scaling enemies. even though the combat is more snappy than morrowind, i feel like the world of morrowind is more fun to explore, also, the intro mission in oblivion i find obnoxiously long. i can see how others might like it, and i still think its a better game than skyrim. but i just hate scaling enemies. its a massive deal breaker for me unless its really well done.

You’ve got me in the mood to share. Here are 7 of my Favorite games of all time, games that I will never get tired of. 1. Halo: Combat Evolved. (My very first game and one me and my brother bonded over a lot when we were kids) 2. Bioshock (the first time a narrative of a game completely engrossed me) 3. Pokémon fire red gen 3 (my first Pokémon experience on my gameboy advance) 4. Fallout: New Vegas (the RPG that made me fall in love with RPGs) 5. CoD Black Ops 1 (I just love this CoD so much, it’s just oozing personality and is still probably the most unique entry In the franchise IMO) 6. Dark Souls ( A game that feels like home, my brother got it for me for my birthday in 2013 and we quickly bonded over the experience of the game. Priceless memories) 7. Prey 2017 (A criminally underrated game with criminally underrated DLC. I come back to this master class every other year or so. So many different ways to tackle the game and always something new to find)
Videos like this are the reason I’m subscribed. Feel the same exact way about Oblivion. I remember staying home from school when both my parents were at work just to play it.

Great video, thank you! I just got Pathfinder WotR last week pretty much exclusively because of your content and loving it so far!
Divinity 2's progression system is such an elegant way to give players hundreds or classes/sub classes in a digestible package. Love WOTR, but the freedom of character creation and classes system in DoS2 is something that I hope becomes more prominent in CRPGs (granted, ones based on ttrpg will be more restricted).
I'm so happy to see Cyberpunk 2077 on this list. Such an amazing game. Yea, it had a rough start but at this point it's one of my favorite games of all time. As for Divinity, Baldurs Gate etc.: These games look super interesting to me, but for whatever reason I can't figure out how to play them properly. It always feels like I'm stuck at the very beginning of each game and I don't know what to do about it
The story about your dad was so sweet!! LEGO Star Wars the complete saga is one of my favorite games for a similar reason. Me and my dad played that game front to back together so many times, finding every collectible and 100% every level. It was something we really bonded over and looked forward to playing together. Those will always be some of my favorite childhood memories
I loved Like a Dragon, it was my first Yakuza game and man... I've been missing out. The game surprised me from top to bottom, it's full of goofiness and funny situations, while the main story is super gritty, dark and sad. Absolute masterpiece.
Great list and a great video as always.
Oblivion was basically my door into being a RPG enjoyer. Or rather say being a hardcore gamer. before oblivion i was just playing Battlefield and COD(i was pretty young back then.. maybe top young for that). Then around one year before Skyrim released, i just saw Oblivion in a store for 20 bucks. I picked it up because it looked cool. And then it hit me. This game opened a new dimension in gaming for me. Thats why despite BG3 and Witcher 3 (or maybe CP2077 patched) are like my most favorite RPGs of all time, Oblivion has a special place in my heart

What did you enjoy about Elden Ring more than any of the Dark Souls trilogy? Genuine question. Its a fine game, but the biggest difference for me was the open world, which I found extremely lackluster. There wasn't really anything interesting to find in the open world and so after a while it just felt tedious to ride around in and made me miss the tight level design of the Dark Souls games that you still got a taste of with the legacy dungeons. Felt like a lot of missed opportunity, and the overreliance on repeat boss fights for the side content was pretty lame too. For these reasons I am genuinely curious what about it puts it above its predecessors in your eyes.

@globmonkey200716102 the open world was my favorite part. The way the world seemlessly ties together is amazing. The sheer beauty of everything. The vistas and landscapes. I wanted explore everything I could. I combed over everything I could. I sunk over 200 hours in my first playthrough. The amount of items and weapons and armor sets to find are what I like finding. The sheer freedom in the game is remarkable. I somehow found myself in The Siofra River well really early on and was just amazed at everything I kept finding. Always something new. I'm still waiting on Bloodborne to return or get a pc launch. That game holds a special place in my heart as well. But Elden, for me, is my favorite game of all time.

I'm pretty sure I ran across your channel and videos several times already in the past (I'm a huge Dragon Age fan and played a lot of BG3 recently), but this steam summer sale I got Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and that's what made me a subscriber - your videos have been invaluable in allowing me to stick with the game and not feel overwhelmed by the initial learning curve (to be sure, I'm still on it, only just started roaming around Kenabres), and they keep being a massive help in learning how to play and handle the game. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure your videos about Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous, Pillars of Eternity and Tyranny were what eventually convinced me to chose Wrath of the Righteous from among those three as the best game for me. And now I get to find and watch all your other content as well - I think you make some excellent stuff! What I guess I'm trying to say is - thanks for making all the content you do, it was and is both very helpful and very entertaining.

I truly do feel very happy for you in that youtube has given you alot and I think you deserve mate. May you continue to enjoy the better parts life for the rest of you days and thank you for sharing with the world. 🙂👍❤️
Recently got pathfinder wotr after watching some of your first videos on it. Very excited to give it a go soon , having loved many other crpgs😄
Closing in on a thousand hours in WotR, partly because I need a newer computer to play BG3 without crippling lag, but also because I keep coming back to it (currently on my fourth run, trying for Sadistic Game Design). Was lovely to hear some of your anecdotes about the times that these games point to in your life.
Did not expect to get Mortismal Lore in this video. Nice!
Love your content - thank you!
I'm a long-time gamer and I really enjoyed your commentary of your favorite games. From watching some of your previous videos, I had a good idea of what some of your choices would be. ☺
A lot of KZreadrs do a fantastic job of explaining why they favor certain games over others. None of them add as many relatable personal reasons as you do, and that is exactly why I like your channel. You explain yourself so well that I can, with great accuracy, know if I will enjoy a game based solely on how you describe your experience with it. Looking forward to you being a regular part of my weekly KZreadr rotation for video game news and coverage for a really long time man! 🎉
I agree with you on Cyberpunk and Oblivion. Cyberpunk had a hell off a redemption arc. Such a great game now, though it also was back in 1.6 when I first played it as well. My personal list is hard to nail down. Depends on my mood :D RDR2, Cyberpunk, Minecraft, Skyrim, Oblivion, New Vegas, Stardew Valley. That covers the main ones.
I view you as a hardcore in depth review channel so when you have these kinds of videos I see it as a little treat lol
Loved the frank, matter-of-factly, way you speak on this video, friend, specially about the house and the adoption. Amazing job. :)
Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are the best RPGs ever made 👌 Cyberpunk is great too.
Oh, how far we have fallen from FF 12. Haven't been excited for a ff since then. Great list of games!
Playing with dad and creating cherished memories. Excellent video btw!
After what you said about Baldur's Gate 3, I love it even more! Keep on the good work!
I finally beat cyberpunk earlier this morning, it's just so good i didn't want it to end

Did you do all the endings? There are some interesting ones depending on the end dialog choices.

@lifeisdead01 I just had a save right before the end dialog. You can do most of the endings that way. There are a couple that are pretty out there lol. I haven't played the DLC yet. I want to replay it too.

@@sodapopinksi667i have a save right before the end too. So i can just reload that save and make different dialogue choices to get all endings, no choices from earlier effect the ending i get? And yeah you've gotta play phantom liberty, it is unbelievable

@lifeisdead01 yep, that's correct. There is a hidden Johnny ending, but that might be the one you did. Most of the endings are similar, but a couple of them definitely are not similar lol.
I've got WOTR in my library waiting to be played, and I'm quite hyped up to play it eventually, mainly due to your channel bigging it up so much. However, I'm just coming to the end of Baldur's Gate 3, which has taken me about 8-9 months (on and off, been playing other things in that time too), so might take a bit of a break before venturing into another massively long game!
Great channel. I love your videos!
Great list ! Many of those are also my favourites. Thank you Mort for an entertaining video and I'll also be sad when we no longer have any WOTR content.
For me BG2 is the most memorable, especially since I played it at release and no other game had ever even come close to the quality at the time. Playing through BG3 right now is bringing back memories as well as making new ones.
Awesome video and great list of games :)
No way, I was literally wishing you had one of these videos yesterday.
I'm not good at many of the games covered here, but I watch the videos anyway because the coverage is so good.
