With context it's the most terrifying thing in the world (context being it's 2am and you're trying not to wake anyone up to get around your daily internet time, unlike EVRYTHING ELSE that can be muted or turned down, the dial-up will SCREECH its connection attempts.

Should have hired a better writer, Oliver. Classic indie game dev mistake.

Eh I never had any issues with any Windows systems EXCEPT 8 and 10. With 8 MS made the awful decision to make it run like a tablet/smartphone UI, rendering the OS almost useless on a normal desktop/laptop. With 10 I had that issue where they messed up my Start menu, and some mild sound problems. I avoided ME like the plague it was. >_>

I question all of Oliver's plan, from him putting his soul into an unfinished game and getting to the point of creating assets and designing the game and yet not having wrote out any story details. His silliness aside, this was fine. The Windows mockup was the better part, though I suppose that's meant to be the case as Oliver's game is purposefully bad.

I suspect that Oliver probably never bothered with royalty fees for the assets, including music, sound effects, and graphics, that was going to be within the game, and thus, he would've ended up pirating those assets, which would've gone against the operating system's terms of service, and since the terms of service stated that the parent company will steal data from the PC, and that they may kill the user for violating the terms of service, it wouldn't have surprised me if Oliver was originally killed for his piracy.

They have no coding experience, and only a little computer experience, but they're trying their best.

_Aaaaaack! RUN - Windows 11 is coming!!!_ The recreation of Windows 98 was cool, but the game was more of a demo than a full game. Not many files to look at on the computer, not much history with Oliver - just “leave me and my game alone”. The real horror here is this is selling for $6.99 USD on Steam.

@@meyers0781 Lol! I know the game - MBH actually played it several years back. Here's the link to his play through kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6p-qsyBnJyZpMY.html I remember thinking MBH had great patience and dedication playing it. It was pretty creative tho using the main menu to create the puzzles and give a true meta game surreal experience. This game in contrast seemed kind of like a game jam game.

I agree, the windows recreation is awesome and spot-on, but I think a little more subtlety with the horror would have gone a long ways with this one. Oliver appearing in his game might have been a fun surprise if he hadn't announced clearly and in no uncertain terms over Messenger that he was going to be doing just that.

Putting in the password to reset the computer feels like engraving someone's name and death date on a grave (since the player is trying to get rid of Oliver).

Yeah, it definitely was a reference to Cellbit. I'm from Brazil and judging by the names of the creator and pledgers, so are they. Not gonna lie, pretty surprised you guys know about him, and I'm not a big fan myself so I don't know if he actually played the game or something, but he definitely is a big influence on both KZread and Twitch.

When I grow up, the words "Hey everyone, this is ManlyBadassHero, and welcome to..." will give me so much nostalgia

So if you get all candles, then obtain the gun and kill Oliver within his project, what happens? Does the game exit? Also, if you beat him at his game before wiping the computer, do you get the same ending?

This game would be really spooky if it was done in VR. If I played this game I'd probably just mess around with the backgrounds and files. I'm a derp when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Game companies now jump to haunting their old games in hopes of forcing people to buy only new games, but people still keep to buying second hand as the ghosts make it more fun.

Manly had me in fits at "12 gigs? You know how much that would've cost in 1999?" - the real facts here. I almost want to know.

A funfact for those who don't know this about WIndows 98: When you enabled the "Boot Up Tips", you'd sometimes get weird and creepy messages if you clicked into them long enough. They would say something like "Windows can't be downloaded directly into your brain. Not yet." Or "Touch your computer. It's warm. Like flesh."

Yeah I used Windows 98 back in the day (I was a kid then) but I don't think the technology existed back then for that. Simply put, you had to pay per hour of internet used. Wasn't possible in the era of 56k modems

It was a pretty cool and short simple game, so good job to you guys, but it definitely isn't worth the 6.99 USD on Steam.

How to solve this game in 3 seconds: 1. Remove the hard drive. 2. Destroy it.

When I noticed within the Terms of Service that the parent company apparently had the right to invasively steal data from the user's PC, like it was implementing spyware, and that any violations of the terms would result in the user being killed, and that there was maybe some licensed content on the PC, I began wondering if maybe the previous user, Oliver, was killed, because the parent company had found out that the user, Oliver, had been pirating some licensed content, such as music?

Ah! Dial up. How ancient you are? I felt you in the 90s.

@@bluishwolf because some places have a high rate of Delta variant even if some people are vaccinated, so restrictions like a lockdown can be applied if needed (also, not every country has the same access to the vaccines)

I remember a while ago you showed a video that was part of another game video, but they actually had a computer in the game you could play on and it had its own little bitty horror game inside of it. This felt similar to that in style and all, but I admit that previous video was a lot spookier... The horror of this was the dial-up and that awful stamina you get!

The sound of a dial-up modem will always bring me back to the days of mIRC, Instant Messenger, MUDs, NES/SNES emulation, and playing games like Quake, Diablo, and Starcraft online.

Fun Fact: I had a Windows XP up until around 2014 or 2015. We bought a Windows 7 in 2010, but we still kept the other one for old games and general use if the other pc was taken (which was often since I have 3 older siblings). One day it just bluescreened, and we didn't know how to fix it, so that was the end of it. Looking back I really wish we kept it for the parts and whatever we had in the storage. RIP, old friend.
