Unfortunate that foreign anime fans misunderstand the conversation here due to mistranslation in the subtitles. When Archer says (based on subtitle) "Feed your leftover pride to that dog" and Lancer replies "Did you just call her a dog", they're not referring to anyone as a dog; this is referring to Cu's legend and Japanese slang (probably the cause of mistranslation). During his youth, Cu had an incident of killing a guard dog, and promised the owner that Cu himself will become his guard dog, which eventually earned his nickname "Hound of Cullen". He also made a pact with himself to respect and never kill/eat dogs in his life. So for Cu, "dog" is something sacred and "being a dog" (i.e., loyal to master) is actually his pride. Archer obviously knows who Cu is, and intentionally disses Cu by saying this. So when Archer tells Cu to "give it to dog" (and referring to dog as lowly being), Cu gets pissed off for disrespecting dogs, which he honors. Also, "Give it to dogs" (犬にでも食わせとけ) is a Japanese slang that basically means the food is crap so just throw it away to feed the street dogs (i.e., not good enough for humans to eat/have). So Archer is referring to "honor" and "pride" as something worthless that should be fed to street dogs (again, referring to them as lowly beings), which also is dissing Lancer's values. It's also a hint that Archer is a heroic spirit from Japan. Corrent translation of Cu's response isn't "Did you just call her a dog" but more like "Did you just say, 'dog'?", noticing that Archer knows his identity and dissing him by referring to dogs (as explained above). Which is why Archer replies "It's the truth, Cu Chulainne" - saying Lancer's name to imply that he knows Cu's identify and is referring to "dogs" knowingly. Cu then says, "You are aware of my spear's abilities?" given that Archer knows his identity.

Fun Fact: Nasu Kinoko, the author, actually answered during an official interview that "Archer (Emiya) cannot win Lancer (Cu) - he may be able to win once in a hundred times." Reasons were: - Cu is much stronger in close combat - Cu has Protection from Arrows - Cu's raw stats, especially speed, is higher than Archer (Emiya), so even if Archer starts combat with bow/arrow Cu will easily fill the distance and start close combat - Archer's Reality Marble is "ineffective against heroic spirit that mastered one weapon", which Lancer Cu is prime example of (i.e., his use of Gae Bolg is "more powerful than its origin, Gungnir", as described by Archer here) The only scenario that Archer (Emiya) can win, as explained by Kinoko, is for Archer to use strongest bow attack from furthest distance possible (outside effective range of Protection from Arrows) and finish Cu in one shot - which still has low probability given Cu's superior status and no realistic way to do this without being noticed. There's also another interview where the staffs (not Kinoko) discuss that Gae Bolg might be Archer (Emiya)'s weakness because Gae Bolg killed Emiya (Shirou) during his lifetime. All heroic spirits have weaknesses (i.e., the cause of his/her death, such as Rider (Medusa) who doesn't like mirrors, and Berserker (Hercules)'s weakness against Hydra's poison), so it's possible that Gae Bolg is indeed Archer's weakness. Note that this was a joke discussed by the staffs, so unofficial.

One of the most epic fight on Fate. Can't believe this was released on 2014. Ufotable really did a great job animating this one.

But nah, they want to add the fight just for the sake of it, but add good amimation so people don't complain

@@mdriz1353 ah, I saw him using EA against Raider in Fate/Zero, and in UBW too, but I didn't think it was as cool as they say lol Rho Aias was always a badass, regardless of who used it. Both Archer's and Shirou's Rho Aias are visually speaking works of art. I saw that he uses EA on Babylon, but I haven't watched it yet because I don't know which Fate I have to watch before Babylon or if I can watch it first (I prefer to watch it in chronological order lol)

I dunno abt that, it was never clarified completely but i alway thought it was archer referring to Cu's myth that gave him his name "Hound of Cullan", IIRC Cu killed a guardian dog out of self defense and ignorance and he was bound by honour to replace the dog's duty and hence he became the "guardian dog" of the person who lost the dog (Cullan/Chullain)

if you think about Fate in its entirety: Everyone involved in the holy grail directly or indirectly; every servant in existence; every main character, even normal characters, all of them don't have plot armor. They all have won something or against something but ultimately met their cruel demise. Also, although the main characters won in the end, what costed them?

@@fusion6343 not really though, in his lancer form he has access to skills such as Disengage, Protection from Arrows and passive Magic resist. Plus he can still use some runes (although limited) to boost his combat prowess or some minor heals. And when all else fails, he has Rank A Guts to survive fatal blows.
