Fun Fact 1: Some people get confused how Shirou was able to fight against Gilgamesh here. Type Moon (Nasu Kinoko) provided logical explanation here, aside from the most important factor, Gil's arrogance. - Gil at this point is a master-less servant (i.e., Kirei had died already). His "Independence" skill (rated A/A+) allows him to survive and act without a master for a while, but his status is greatly reduced - and his physical status is actually not that high to begin with (with Kirei as master = Strength B, Endurance C, Agility C, Mana B, Luck A, Noble Phantsm EX). He is also unable to get mana from Master. - Furthermore, Gil has reincarnated to the modern world - no longer Heroic "Spirit" supported by the Grail. So his status is also weakened to maintain balance with the modern world. - Shirou's projection has abiity to read the original owner's skills/techniques and is able to mimic to certain extent (not fully). Gil, on the other hand, owns the Noble Phantasms but do not have skills to actually use them, hence Shirou's advantage when using same weapon against Gil. If Shirou fights other servants using the same tactics (i.e., mimicing), there is no way he can mimic the skills 100% so he has no chance of winning them. - Shirou developed his own combat skills through his battle with Archer (i.e., "learning" from his future self) - including use of mana to strengthen his body - which explains his movements here. - Shirou is getting mana support from Rin, so his strengthening of his body using mana is at high level coupled with his learnings from Archer. If there was no mana link from Rin, Shirou's very limited mana would not allow him to strengthen his body to this level (wouldn't be able to do projections/UBW to begin with). - Shirou's projection/UBW slowly changes his body into "steel blade". Though not to the extent as seen in HF, his endurance and physical ability has risen due to his use of projection/UBW. - In close combat, Gil requires multiple steps to use his weapons: (1) opens his GoB, (2) selects his weapon, (3) reaches out to grab the weapon, then (4) swing the weapon. However in Shirou's case, (1) he chooses/traces the weapon, (2) weapon appears in his hand or within his reach immediately, then (3) swings the weapon. So he has less step involved than Gil in close combat, hence his saying "I'm always (literally) one step faster" As stated in the beginning, the biggest factor is indeed Gil's arrogance, but Gil's weakened state and the mismatch in combat style against Shirou also contributed to Shirou's victory here.

My another guess will be Sakura, idk if she can survive Ea but her power is basically straight from the corrupted grail and she does have an absorption ability like a black hole. If you watch Fate Heaven's Feel, Sakura indeed fight against Gil but I can't spoil the content but as soft and gentle her may seem, you'll be shocked how unexpectedly powerful she is even Gilgamesh doesn't expect that as well XD

​@@miguelromero1163 First of all, Ea's true abilities cannot be used in the modern world. So what we are seeing in Fate Zero and S/N series (all routes) is a "limited" version of Ea. Some people mistaken that the counterforce of the world weakens Ea (i.e., balancing effect to protect the planet earth), but it's not actually "weakened" but "limited", as its full potential can only be unleashed in the era of gods or outside planet earth. Note that the name "Ea" comes from God Ea (a Mesopotamian god), which is the creator of earth. Gil's Ea "borrows" this ability to create (and destroy) the world, and this is why Ea has the ability to destroy Reality Marble (i.e., miniscule/fake world), as witnessed in Fate/Zero vs. Rider Iskandal. Full potential Ea does have the power to damage the planet itself, but this is an "ability of gods" that Ea originally had which has been restricted with the end of era of gods. So in Grail Wars, Gil's Ea is just showing part of its potential. When used as Noble Phantasm in "normal" circumstances (i.e., modern world, restricted Ea), Ea is described as having the power to "create/destory a nation" (but not to the extent of creating/destroying planet itself). For example in Fate/strange fake series, it describes that Gil's Enuma Elish "created a large crater the size of a large city in desert, as if a meteor striked". Ea's official story setting has been revised in the Type Moon universe during creation of Fate/EXTRA CCC game series, in which it states that "Enuma Elish" (Gil's use of Ea) is merely small part of Ea's abilities. In EXTRA CCC, the setting is not on earth, so GIl is said to be able to unlease Ea's full potential - ability to destroy "the planet". That being said, if we are talking about the "limited" version of Ea as you see in Fuyuki's Grail War, then yes there are some servants/Noble Phantasms that can rival it. Enkidu is one such example. Saber's Excalibur was also able to clash against and diminish Ea's power to extent that she would not die. However, if we are taking about the full potential Ea, it's made clear by Type Moon settings (added in Fate/EXTRA) that it's "the strongest Noble Phantasm" in terms of pure power, and that no "Heroic Spirits" and their Nobel Phantams can rival it in terms of power. However, Heroic Spirits and Noble Phantasms do have various parameters that make one advantageous/disadvantageous against another. Special cases such as Divine Spirits, special classes, and/or their Noble Phantasms etc. also have various parameters that make it difficult to compare apple-to-apple.

Ea being an anti-world NP is a hard counter for reality marbles, so of course Gil decides not to use it. Curiosity killed the cat and arrogance killed Gil xD

@@yaboiplank6764 yes, there are some things that couldnt be properly explained in the animated version, like heracles vs shirou. heracles by that point still hasnt recovered from his wounds against saber, hes literally blinded by the mud, while shiro using proyection has the ability to reproduce not only heracles noble phantasm but also the physical strenght and speed of the original user of the technique (to a lesser extent) among other things like combat experience craftsmanship and so. He used a noble phantasm thats recorded in heracles but he cant use as a berserker, its the technique he used in life to kill the 9 heads of the hydra in his myth (thats why it could kill him his remaining 9 lives) but yeah, as previously said, even with all that, berserker was faster than shirou to deal the finishing blow and if it hadnt been for ilya, heracles would've killed shirou, he stopped when he saw her

@@Lozak Actually it's not only that. Shirou didn't complete the technique properly, delivering only eight blows simultaneously rather nine (most likely because his mind was having issues). The incomplete technique was why Berserker was able to move.

*TRIVIA* The reality is that from the beginning the battle of Gilgamesh and Shirou was not a normal battle, it was all a bet, to see which Noble Phantasm surpassed the other and obviously Gate of Babylon could not against Unlimited Blade Works. For Gilgamesh it was already too late when he found out about it. So yes, he trusted and that's why he was defeated.

Hope this solves the "how can he be only 1/3 human?" question that pops up: Fate settled for saying demigod (anything lesser than a full god), but his (goddess) mom screwed a god and a human, and instead of sorting out who the actual father was, both guys were considered his dad back then.

Fun Fact 2: Even the reactors here are confused why Archer was alive... it's due to his Independent Action skill (rank B). First, Rank B Independent Action skill allows servant to remain in the world for two days even after pact with master has been severed. It's two days between Caster's death and final battle here, so in terms of time Archer's presence is possible. Second, because this skill allows servant to remain in the world without pact with master, it means that even if he was damaged to extent that would usually make him disappear, he can remain in the world so long as his spirit core (i.e., kind of like human's heart) is not destroyed. However, it took him time to recover sufficiently to be able to show himself (i.e., he remained as spirit state resting), which is why he only showed himself at the final moments. If I recall correctly, Archer had stayed at Einzbern castle before heading to Ryudoji Temple, because the forest surrounding the castle has lots of spirits (ghosts) from which he can obtain mana from to recover. And Ryudoji Temple itself is also mana-heavy which allowed him to further recover. FYI, Gil's Independent Action skill is ranked A/A+ (depends on master/scenario). During 4th Grail War (Fate Zero with Tokiomi as master), it was Rank A, while during 5th Grail War it's Rank A+. Rank A allows servants to act on his own without master's command, but use of Noble Phantasm requires master's support. Rank A+ allows servants to act on his own without limitation on the use of Noble Phantasm. Rider (Medusa) has has Independent Action skill, ranked C.

Don't see how independent action would make him last this long while using mana at a normal servant rate though. It's plot Armor for Emiya. He uses the arrows multiple times and even uses Rho Aias to shield Shirou from Ea thus severely reducing his left over mana. This should have led to his immediate disappearance but nah, plot said otherwise.

During the entire fight, gilgamesh didnt use anything except swords from GoB because his ego demands that he prove that his collection stored in the GoB is superior to the fakes shirou and archer have. He only uses swords cus thats what shirou is best with, and he will not feel content unless he achieves complete and total victory.

In the VN , UBW is just faster than GoT (Gate of Babylon), and that's how Shirou won, closing the gates from Gilgamesh with UBW before they were really shot. @@luxowaty5858 shirou gained the full abilities and control of them that archer has. Throughout his fight with archer he was improving and bettering himself until he reached a power similar to him. BTW archer was a counter Guardian who is more powerful than a heroic spirit and he was literally nerfed to join the fight. Also the whole I am the bone of my sword chant isn't a lie. It makes the user's body slowly turn into iron and even heals the user(this is why archer's skin is different because all the metal in his body). I don't really remember but it also grants some more strenght to the user.

Actually, in the VN, Gilgamesh don't hesitate to get EA. But Shirou was smarter, and knowing that Gilg would pull out his strongest weapon in panic, he waited in the dust to chop his arm off before he could get It.

I’m just getting into the Fate series but it’s confusing as hell, I was told that Fate/Apocrypha, Fate/Extra - Lost Encore & Fate/Grand Order takes place in a different universe, but Fate/Stay Night, Unlimited Blade works & Fate/Zero are all in the same universe? But I’m currently lost watching the 3 Heavens Feel movies, I bought them on blu ray and I’m currently watching the 2nd movie and I have no idea what’s going on, I thought this connected with the other series, but everything is happening completely differently, Saber is currently infected with evil and has disappeared for the entire second movie, what’s going on? Is this also in a different universe?

Fate/Stay Night, FSN: Unlimited Bladeworks and FSN: Heaven's Feel are all routes that are connected with Fate/Zero. Also, FSN: Heaven's Feel is connected with FSN: Unlimited Bladeworks Prologue. They are like same history but different at the same time.

The anime is based off of visual novel games, which you choose different routes based on how you play the game. Fate/Stay Night, Unlimited Bladeworks, and Heavens Feel are all different routes in the game. Fate Zero is a prequel.

@@F1rstNameLastName Oh ok, that helps a lot, so they’re in the same universe but just 3 different outcomes. I haven’t finished watching Unlimited Blade Works because I got confused when watching it & thought it was the same as Stay Night, because Stay Night is no longer available on Netflix, Crunchyroll or Funimation so I thought I just got it mixed up and I was rewatching the same series.

Don't pay any attention to the order it doesn't really matter even fate zero and fate stay night are not in the same universe so it doesn't really matter what or how would you watch it it's up to you it's a multiverse after all.

​@@itsnotgayifitsclay while that its true, there is a suggested order to experience the franchise by the way it was made, in the same way the original novel was supposed to be read like Fate -> UBW -> HF, the anime version was made by ufo taking into account anime only fans so its better experienced Zero -> UBW -> HF (ofc theres always debate over how and what but those are the most simple and straightforward ones) and also, many things make more sense when u experience it in a certain order (because that how they were made), Fate introduces the characters, UBW lets us know who emiya shirou really is, and HF lets us see the truth abt sakura and having experienced those 2 routes before we can concentrate and understand better what happens in HF. (For example, already knowing who shirou really is by HF, lets us know the heavy weight of the path he takes in order to save sakura, instead of just being a simple "save the girl" story)

I still don't get it, wasn't Archer killed by Gilgamesh in Einzbern Castle?

something from the visual novel that wasn't explained in the anime. basically, if you pay attention, when Archer gets mortally wounded, he disappears in an instant, normally servants lasts a couple of seconds in disappering or the moment they vanished is much slower. In that moment, Archer turns into the servants spirit form, and being from the Archer class, he remains like that, restoring his mana and energy. But, as you can see, that's not very usefull since he only could materialized twice and he only could shoot weak arrows instead of his more powerful weapons, also he died by the second time he appeared so yeah

@@siats142 I also read somewhere that the final arrow he used on gil was a real one he made from a knife, because he didn't have any mana to project any more.

People are always confused about how Archer came back, remember, before being a servant he is a counter guardian. "whenever the world is on the brink of destruction i will be there to save it".

Can you please explain what’s happening in Heavens Feel? Im currently on the second movie, I’ve just got past that fight with Archer & Assassan, I’m just getting into the Fate series but it’s confusing as hell, I know most of the series takes place in a different universe, but I thought Heavens Feel took place in the same universe as Stay Night & Zero, but everything has happened completely differently, so this is also in a different universe?

@@InfamyOrDeath-__- Archer need to protect Iliya and told Shiro protect her. Finally,Archer protect everyone from Dark Sakura but Shiro will not survive. Archer give his arm to Shiro. I know about your confuse. I can explain this. Fate stay night 2006. You just forget that just watch for fun. Begin with Fate zero > UBW. So heaven feel just another universe. And differently.

@@InfamyOrDeath-__- FSN is comprised of three routes. Fate is the first, UBW is the second and HF is the third. You can think of the three as different possibilities of one event.

@@mechchococh.4313 it’s cuz the Tsukihime-verse characters are crazy over powered. In Arcueid’s case, she’s literally the embodiment of the world at her full power I think. I’m unsure there since she has like 3 different modes and all are stronger than servants. But I am curious to see who would win between anyone from the Tsukihime-verse against Gil.

Shirou is right Gilgamesh is a one-trick pony. As powerful as he is he's a glass canon on steroids true but one good solid hit on him and he goes down quick.

Bottom left should spend more time actually watching the anime. Then he'd understand why Shirou beat Gil.

Why the heck gilgamesh didn't pull off that unique sword that destroys reality marbles earlier in the battle? Or maybe he cannot think straight because of shirou's overwhelming projection or not?

Just his armor is enough to defeat shiro, he just doesnt care about the grail or anything, he is doing this to pass time since he was summoned against his will, in the visual novel shiro and saber say he could defeat every servant in the same night, but he is too cocky and dont care about them.

You want an extremely specific answer? The Gil you see in FSN is not the same Gil that was in Zero. He's been tainted by the Grail and spoilt by ten years of decadence. Not to mention, he's an extremely proud person who believes that Shirou wasn't even worth his full attention, much less a foes that was worthy of the usage of his ultimate weapon. He didn't realize until too late that Shirou was a threat to him. At least that's in the anime, in the VN Shirou was attacking him relentlessly and mocking him with sass, not allowing Gil the time to pull out Ea.

It's not that he is stronger, it's that his copy skill is the perfect counter for Gil's powers.

It's because gil underestimated shirou by alot. Notice the scene where he was about to use Ea again? He hesitated because he didn't want to use it against someone he dubbed a "Mongrel", Archer gil is known for his arrogance after all. But it does not mean he is weak by any means, he was simply caught off guard, if he took it seriously from the start he could've crushed shirou before he could even summon up his reality marble.

@@sukuna443 absolutely he will win if he put aside his pride because gilgamesh is a demi god + enuma elish + almost achieved immortality + defeated some powerful gods + never ending treasure + different noble phantasm + can see future and past + erase reality gilgamesh can almost solo everyone in the fate franchise
