Hands down the best explanation of refresh rate+ FPS and progressive scan I've ever heard.
Best explanation yet for this, absolutely spot on. You also seemed to just be thinking the sentences up as you went rather than having it scripted, so kudos to you! Subbed :)
Exactly what i was looking for, thanks a lot for your time.
Thank's for the review! 3 years have passed and prices are a bit better now. I am going to buy one with G-Sync I belive now.
I must add that your presentation is excellent , clear and concise and you speak loud and clear which I appreciate as my hearing has deteriorated overtime
Great explanation! The problem that I have with G-Sync is that it is (as of today) FAR more expensive in combination with IPS and I just can't go with a TN panel. I don't really play that much FPS games and would always choose better image quality (no tearing) over performance (fps, stuttering). Of course don't having to make any of those compromises would be perfect and thus G-Sync is a great technology but right now it comes either with a hefty price tag or worse image quality. The dream would be a 34" Ultrawide monitor with gsync 144hz and IPS that doesn't cost as much as my whole system.

Great explanation. I've read a bunch on Gsync lately and this was the best run down
exellent. been doing research for ages. this video was perfectly explained. Thanks
Great Explanation, thank you. Had a few misconceptions about Gsync until this video.
Great video mate, has been very informational! Shows that you've done your research.
Great review. You are very clear in your explanation and have a solid command of language. Never seen one of your videos before, but I just added you as a subscription.
Thank you for giving a clean and factual description on what this was and helping me come to a decision on a purchase. Sub'd and Liked.
Well spoken, concise, and informative
Thank you, I currently just bought a g-sync monitor. Its the omen 27 inch and I was wondering what it does and this really helps. Thanks!
Thanks PC Centric.Very easy to watch will be a regular of your channel. I am sold and getting one as a result. Quick question, do you think in FPS games such as bf4, hardline, cs:go and such that its unfair to have a 1440/g-synch monitor if 1080 with no synch what so ever is the norm? Of course its ones perogative, I'm struggling to come to grips with the sportsmanship side of having overly capable hardware. Being global elite on cs:go would be great, but would one perform on lan on a 1080p monitor afterwards at a comp? =)

It depends on the scenario, but I'd rather play at 70fps 1080p than 45fps at QHD. In fps anyway. I'm sold on G-SYNC, and is the best option until free sync catches up.

Adeptwa Im late as fuck, but in the end, a £500 system will be enough for a pro csgo player to get what he or she needs to play stable and well. Yes 144hz and mx speed keys will help them, but if you are good at a game, it wont drag you down... Its just a not as nice experience
Oh wow, this was wonderfully helpful, thanks mate.
Awesome video! I have to try one of those!
You explained it really well. Thanks.
nice tutorial thanks for the info
great video. i've been trying to explain this and some people say they don't get tearing with vsync off and no stutter with it on. Well maybe they don't know what a perfect scenario is. I bought the pg279q and it's amazing. No stutter and no screen tear. It's the best investment I made in a long time. It was expensive but now I enjoy games even more.
Well spoken, however it'd be better if you showed examples. Perhaps run the settings necessary to show the problems & how they are solved.
Learnt a lot mate - keep up the good work.
Thanks. My primary concern is input lag. I'm having a hard time getting straightforward info on how G-sync affects input lag.
Great Video thanks for the explanation !

Great video. Very informative. Please do something about the white noise in the background.
i've watched so many videos on Gsync and this is by far the best one

For Videographer like me, I recommend having an adaptive sync monitors as working on 24fps with 60hz looks terrible with micro stutter because the lack of refresh sync...

Is it already turned on g sync ? I always turn of v sync in game options for all games BF3 bf4 and csgo i want to make sure g sync is on how do i do that please
How low can the variable refresh rate go on G-Sync displays?
Helpful video. Thanks.
do monitors still come with gsync lost i have seen are discontinued?
so if i don't have this g-sync and my fps is like 45 fps in my 60 hz.the only option to not have tearing is 30 fps? ..
im new to pc gaming. i have a gtx 970 and the asus 144hz monitor 1ms response time. when playing bf4 i turn v sync off and put 1080p 60htz. i get 60fps on full screen and 90ish or over 120ish on window mode.do i need another monitor with g sync?
With Gsync and Freesync now being more mainstream, is Adaptive Vsync still usable in 2017? What are the requirements to run Adaptive Vsync, just the display port and a fast monitor (and obviously a good card), or is there more?
Nice info.
damn good video mate!!!!
Quick question. Do we enable or disable Vsync if we have a Gsync LCD? I tried disabling Vsync in game and I get the tearing?!
Unfortunately, my display can't use G-Sync, which is a pity, because the frame hitching, etc. from Vsync is a little annoying sometimes.
What happens if you have a 60hz g-sync monitor but your gpu's have the ability to run at 70-80fps? Do you then get stuttering because the monitor can't keep up or does the monitor cap the gpu's at 60fps?
Great explanation just bought a g-sync monitor :D with 144Hz today
young ignis from ffxv?
What camera do you have? Video quality is amazing!
When playing competitively should i turn off G Sync because my gpu can hit a lot higher than my refresh needs? because i heard that G Sync on adds a small amount of input lag.
Thanks for the great explanation.
Great video. Do you happen to know if Alienware laptops, curent models, have g-sync ? I dont seem to be able to find anything out on their site.
I have a 144Hz monitor. Does that mean I get lags if my computer is not able to produce 144 fps in certain games? (I sadly have a freesync monitor but an Nvidia GPU, so no Gsync of Freesync active)
Should I let Gsync be my deciding factor on getting a monitor with my Nvidia card? Problem I'm having is I want a 27" but the only BenQ gsync monitor is a 24" plus it's only 1080p and I was kinda wanting a 1440p. So I've been debating on forgoing gsync and getting the BenQ xl2730z but I've been worried that it's free sync. Can someone please help me out? I feel like I'm putting too much thought into this lol
I know this video is old and someone had a similar comment below but I hope you'll answer. I am some what worried about whether or not I should focus on getting a 2k TN 144hz monitor compared to an IPS monitor with the same price and specs, but the TN panel has gsync and I'm wondering if it's really worth it to sacrifice the clarity and hyper viewing angles of an IPS compared to a TN?
should i activate v-sync when playing games on my g-sync monitor?

Hey @pc centric, if you can answer me. I have a 60hz shit monitor with a 1080ti... Yeah... I want to know if I should buy a 240hz monitor without gsync or a 144hz monitor with gsync. The main game i play is Overwatch and i get so much screen tearing, i want to get sweet and smooth clear images and not get those artifactes while turning the camera to fast (ghosting). Now I get over 250fps in OW so in your opinion what is the best? 240hz or 144hz gsync?

great video. Look now I have kind of not bad gaming laptop GTX 1070 graphic card, but damn screen only 60 Hz.... Without V sync playing Battlefielf 1 mp on max specs at 120 fps.... What you can advise. What screen to buy with that kind of laptop ? worth it to buy screen on side laptop?
do you think that nvidia should make more affordable g sync monitors 75hz and fast response time?
Nice and clear.
A question please. At the moment I play games on a 27" 4k/60 Hz monitor, and my system can handle 60 fps, more or less. I don't want to use smaller monitor. The only 27" g-sync 144 Hz monitor I can afford is only 1080p. Now with the money I would throw for this G-Sync, will I get any better gaming experience? I mean yes I will probably get 100+ fps on 1080p, and with G-Sync it would be a better fit, but by sacrificing 4k experience? Should I stay with my current monitor or getting a g-sync higher refresh rate but lower resolution?
@somnorila9913
5 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of taste. I'm one who puts more importance on efficiency, high fps, responsiveness, rather than bling eye candy at 4k. Other people are exactly opposed. So you're the best judge. I had a 24 inch 1920x1200 60Hz monitor but wanted to upgrade. First i was looking at 2k resolutions, 27 inch at 144Hz. But after some consideration i opted for the same size, slightly lower resolution at 1920x1080 but at 240Hz and with Gsync. After some testing i have to say that i'm not at all impressed by this Gsync feature. I can't see it at work. Most of my games never reach 240 fps so tearing isn't noticeable probably because of the fast refresh rate. I get the same image feeling with gsync on or off. I need to test some more but after trying this in CSGO, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, of which the later two had tearing if i were to play them on my 60Hz monitor without vsync activated. Now at 240Hz, vsync off, regardless of having Gsync on or off i have same smooth experience. I guess everyone's experience will be different, but i think the almost 25% difference in cost for a monitor between Freesync and Gsync is not worth it if the monitor has a high refresh rate.
for me its rly bad btw do you need vsync on throu the nvidia control panel to work with g-sync?
Why is g sync not required for doing other activities than video games? Fox example watching movies or youtube videos at 30 or 60fps you dont see tearing at all

Great video. However some additonal things. V-sync is queit bad today as you should cap it through games "FPS CAP" to your monitor HZ or use programs like Afterburner to cap it instead of using V-sync to avoid stutter and G-sync is freaking expensive today and i can't make my mind up if i wanna run 4K or G-sync, 144Hz 60HZ or whatever... choices, choices.
thanks so much
If I play games on asus 1080 strix oc at 1080p will gsync help me??? Most of the games I will be above 60 fps any given point of time on max settings. Also tell me about 2k resolution. As far as I understood it will come into play when my fps goes down below 60..

micsic123 I know the reply is late but with a gtx 1080 on a 1080p I would not buy gsync (yet). you will run any game at 60fps. I have gtx 980ti and run everything on 60fps at 1080p
Gsync also incorporates adaptive voltage that removes all ghosting and Freesync does not have any adaptive voltage they leave that up to the panel makers and we are seeing bad ghosting.
simple question, will g-sync consume more GPU power? do i get less fps if I turn it on?
@darkenoid

If anything the monitor should consume less power? Because it only refreshes as many times as its needed, if its 40 FPS it will only refresh 40 times, right?

TheGoat Town have you ever noticed screen tearing in any game on console
I have an i9 9900k and rtx 3080ti with 32gb 3600mhz ram, I’m running it with a Dell 60hz monitor, I know it’s overkill and I’m switching to a 1440 or 4K in a couple weeks, I just have a question, i recently undervolt my gpu and my cpu as well to an offset of about 0.085. I tried horizon zero dawn and without putting vsync I normally get around 120fps, I usually play with vsync for the screen tearing for the moment until I get my new higher refresh rate monitor, but I have been taking sync off to see what it can do, I’m noticing certain areas when am mounted with a machine and riding in the zone fast I get a bit of stuttering, my fps remain above 100fps during those stutters. I’m just wondering can the 60hz monitor have a doing with the stuttering and should this go away if I used a Gsync monitor? Or would this perhaps be because of my undervolt? I have tried removing the undervolt for both gpu and cpu however and this problem still occurs but it seems when I have vsync on and capped at 60 it doesn’t seem to stutter or so I haven’t noticed, just wondering what’s going on, I feel as my specs should not be giving me stuttering even on ultra with the 3080ti. Could it be because undervolt, or can the 60hz monitor have something to do with stuttering because of how fast the fps change, it sometimes does 160 to 110fps in seconds and bounces a lot or could it just be the game that isn’t optimized correctly for certain zones, I have noticed also some areas I get 85 fps and then when I look elsewhere it goes back to 120. Hopping this is a monitor issue and once I get my new one the stuttering will go away, I would like smoothness for this kind of performance from my specs.

@somnorila9913

I read this before somewhere else but i don't really think it's accurate. From my understanding Gsync bypasses the display's refresh to show images as fast the gpu can output. So 60Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz means that the monitor has fixed refresh rate, set according to its frequency, meaning that 60Hz shows you 60 frames per second to give the impression of movement. Like in the old movie strips. This happens where Gsync technology is not available. With Gsync the refresh is adaptive according to your board output. But from my little testing i find Gsync pointless. As it's purpose is to eliminate the tearing effect. So while with my 60Hz monitor i would notice tearing in some games. Which happens because of frames in queue out of sync with the ones which are displayed. Vsync solves that by telling your gpu to slow down as the monitor can't keep up. But with a high frequency monitor and same PC, the gpu can't keep up with the monitor so there are no frames in queue which would be out of sync. I tested games which would tear without vsync on the 60Hz monitor. Tested them on a 240Hz monitor with vsync off and with gsync on and off and haven't notice any difference. Maybe if i would had over 240 fps tearing would happen and gsync would seem worthy. My supposition is that there are no more frames in queue out of sync or even if that happens the fast refresh rate makes it that the difference between frames are too small to be noticed as image tearing. My conclusion is that if your system can't produce more fps than your monitor's frequency, Gsync is pointless. So for most of us if you get a high refresh rate monitor, you would probably overpay if you get a monitor with Gsync.
The input lag from vsync while playing csgo is noticeable. The input lag means that the monitor is behind what the computer has processed: you move the mouse and there is a fraction of a second where it does not move and after you stop moving it keeps going for a bit, similar to using a wireless mouse. I have vsync off, and take the tearing as it is not too noticeable (maybe I am just used to it) and gsync would be useless to me for csgo as I never drop below 250fps. Nice video though.
Maximum pre-rendering frames set to 1. V-sync with much less input lag, learn it, use it, love it.

+Joe ‘JustAGamer’ Tiago G-Sync is specific for Nvidia graphics cards and freesync for AMD (now Radeon again). This basically means that if you want to buy an nvidia graphics card you MUST get a Gsync monitor in order to get all the benefits from adatipve framerate technology. If you want a freesync monitor on the other hand, to cut costs, you will have to buy an AMD graphics card that supports this technology. Looking for the specs online of particular graphics cards will tell you what resolution and adaptive framerate tech they support.
