My beloved husband died after 18 months of chemo. That evening friends just came over to spend time together. I had been asked by the funeral home to bring clothes for him to wear before cremation !! After a few drinks, and consoling each other I grabbed one of his ugliest pants. Off white corduroy, I gave everyone a sharpie and we all wrote a message on the pants. In our sorrow this was such an uplifting exercise. We laughed and cried for a few hours. When I brought the pants to the funeral home, employees came out of the woodwork to check out the pants. Again lots of laughs and tears.12 years and I still think of him every day, with a pinch of sadness and memories of love and kindness.

My dad always wore an old golf shirt and ratty sweater with holes when he was home. Mom said she wanted him to be comfortable so his open casket was dad wearing makeup for the first time in his life and dressed like a homeless man. It made mom happy.

I’ve seen a Jim Gaffigan troll commenter before 🫨🤨 it was disgusting.

Jim has quietly become one of the best standup comics ever to take the stage. He has a completely unique style and delivery. His material is consistently good. He can make us laugh without profanity - from what I have been told, a tall order - and he makes us want to hear his best bits over and over. Those are the marks of a legend, folks.

Jim so good at being clean and uncomfortable at the same time.

My cousin was a mortuary cosmetician. She said it helped to know she was preparing someones loved one and doing their hair the correct way. She said the only time it was hard was when she had to do someone young.

One of the weirdest experiences of my 20s was not only having to deliver the eulogy for my PawPaw (what f***ing idiot had the balls to ask me to do that?) but also seeing his dead body with blush on his cheeks and clothed in a suit. I don't want any obituary or anything. If you don't notice I'm gone, I wasn't very important in your life in the first place.

When husband died of cancer, we had wake before he died. And it was Halloween decorated with a tombstone cake. Friends came from several states around. Live music, games, lots of talking, and a guest book to leave art and notes for him, which he treasured that last month.

I have been a mortician for thirty years. Trust me, it wasn't my childhood dream. lol!!! Lot's of people get buried with comfortable clothes, and favorite blankets. However, it is nicer to see people in dressy clothes because they are often bedridden and wearing pajamas for weeks or more, before they pass. Jim is always funny but the cutting into the grandma cake kind of disturbed me. lol!

I just read where the family put old white pants out for their loved one to be buried in and everyone wrote their message in sharpie sharing a message to the departed. THAT sounds like fun and a good way to achieve closure. I know one family member that needs to tell me off. Good time and way to do it. My answer would be to get over yourself and forgive. Proverbs 3:5,6.

I went to a Vietnamese friend's funeral, and in the Buddhist tradition, at the end they wheeled the casket onto a conveyor belt where it went into the fire. It was horrible! I am not mocking the religion; it's just that almost everyone in attendance was not Buddhist so had no idea this would be happening, and there was a collective scream of horror. I wish I could un-remember that it ever happened.

When my friend died his family dressed him in his favorite jeans, favorite Hawaiian floral shirt, & his custom colored cowboy boots. The "viewing" was at a small, private reception hall. Guests and loved ones were encouraged to dress, in Summer Casual attire. Shorts, beach wear, flips flops, etc. (My buddy was a real joker in LIFE.) At his request & known by his wife, his final wish was to be "propped up", and not be inside of a casket. His body was presented upright and casually resting. (reclining?) Not quite sitting, either. There was a low riser, this was staged upon, so we weren't looking down, on him. His friends, we're all Artists and Musicians, with open minds, but we all agreed it was (really weird). Certainly memorable.

Stan Laurel penned before his funeral that if anyone cry's at his funeral he will never speak to them again. bless all clowns.
