Fully Built Z31 VG33 Turbo - New Intake - 40psi 800+ rwhp Goal?!?!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finished making a new intake for the built 89!
This custom polished intake features individual velocity stacks to help better the air curve into the heads. And yes, this is actually beneficial for a turbo application as well. There is a book that I have been reading that talks about engine building for turbo applications. It has a chapter on intake design. The velocity stack at the end of a ported/polished runner is the preferred design. Anyhow...
For the throttle body, I have an aftermarket billet 80mm Q45 throttle body. This allowed me to retain the cruise control as well!
The Z definitely drives different! First off, there is a noticeable sound difference. With my equal length exhaust manifolds, this intake made the the notes more choppy and clean. It sounds so nice!
For the driving feel, the whole intake makes the throttle response snappy, it's amazing. It also feels like the boost pull is much quicker. It feels like it builds boost a tad faster!
Overall, upgrading from the old school gutted Maxima front entry intake that had a 60mm throttle to this new log intake with a larger throttle body is night and different.
And the engine bay looks so much cleaner too, more modern.

Oh wow, I remember subscribing to you back when I was following your builds on z3performance, then your YT channel... I was 15 and had just bought my first car - a Z31, of course. 1985 N/A 2+2, with only 80k miles (for $1,000!). Your builds got me into working on cars, and within two months I'd swapped the timing belt, radiator, thermostat, and water pump with nothing but a lot of time, swearing, busted knuckles, and rudimentary HF tools. That was 15 years ago, talk about a trip. Really miss my old Z31 now. 12 cars later and I still think about it.

Cool car. Very clean I happen to love my cd009 but I’m only putting down 358whp on my 07 sedan na. The weak part was the factory clutch slave cylinder that is now a Jim wolf unit with lightweight flywheel an clutch. Still holding together at 209k miles. When the powertrain gives up the ghost it’s getting an ls3 and t56 though. Much cheaper to build the Chevy motor and maintain it dollar per dollar.

Bro your Z31 is so nice honestly a dream build for me, I currently own a 87 Z31 N/A and running it as a project so I aspire to have it on your level very soon. I got a quick question how much did tremec charge for the custom 6speed bc i still have the stock 5 and it runs great ofc after a little more beating it will probably need to be replaced or fixed as for the LSD with 20 clutches sounds amazing to run and probably super fun as well.

  • @z31online

    @z31online

    Жыл бұрын

Thanks man! This isn't a custom Tremec 6 speed. It's just the Tremec Magnum-F 2.66. It was $3500 before shipping. You would need a custom bellhousing, clutch, shifter, and driveshaft. That's another $4500. So it's roughly $8000 for this transmission setup.

🏆⚡️It’s always good to see someone truly appreciate this vehicle. I have an 87 Z31 GLL. It has suffered over the years because I didn’t know how to do some preventive maintenance to it when I got it as a young man. Overall it’s running and running pretty good. I’m doing a lot of work on it now to restore some of its glory. One issue that I have is the AC. I really want to fix that. I think my vacuum canister is junk. I don’t hear the canister operating. Should it make some sound while in operation? It blows hot air out of the defrost vents. Last night I charged the compressor and it blows cold now but it still only comes out of the top vents not the face vents. Any idea how to fix it? I’m thinking vacuum leak somewhere or the canister itself.

Just got a nissan d21 se and did a vg33 swap, however im new to nissan's im a honda guy but also into chevy's as well so i like them all but wanting to boost the being its low on the power side but turbo manifolds from 86-89 300z turbo or any vg30et will work also the fueling aspect ive looked into get 86-89 300zx turbo ecu but doesn't seem its tunable like i can with honda ecu's, so im thinkin a apexi safc like i had back in the day otherwise whats the boost limit if running a factory turbo ecu ? @@jamesrobertgrimes I have had this car since I was 16, it's my first car. I've owned it for 22 years. It'll never be for sale. If you wanting make an offer in the realm of $150k, I may consider it. This car has easily close to $100k in parts alone. I have the build sheet and all receipts documented it. $150k is the price that I would consider, otherwise, not for sale. It worth mentioning that this is THE most built VG powered z31 North America, if not the world. Every aspect of the car has been built.

shame, no digital dashboard. lost me there. the whole appeal of these cars was the digital dashes and gauge cluster, being retro-futuristic at this point in time. there is no other car like them.

I politely and professionally disagree. The digital dashes are prone to have alot of problems. Everything from bad power supplies, bad capacitors/transistors, dead spots on the actual liquid crystal display. Beyond the flakey attributes, they are incredibly laggy when when accelerating or deceleratings, even on factory turbo and power levels. If you're trying to retain a stock looking in interior with high HP goals, the Analogs are the way to go, no matter how you dice it.

@@z31online the whole reason i would buy a z31 and specifically 80s one is for those dash boards. theres no other car really that compares to them, i 100% believe what you're saying about the reliability of them especially considering how old they are now, but i still think they fit the theme of the car and era better.
