    This is the bare bones rec/work machine that I should have purchased instead of my Grizzly 700. I plow, haul firewood and occasionally ride. The grizzly is excessive for these tasks and a pig on fuel to boot. I previously had a sportsman 500 that worked great for me and I should have stuck to the same formula.

    I have THE workhorse..... a Arctic Cat 700 diesel. This thing is a beast. Box blade, middle buster, cultivator, winch and trailer. Even the second seat for when the wife just wants to go for a ride. I've worked this thing hard for a number of years and it just keeps going. And a tank of diesel lasts a very long time.

    The Sportsman 450 is a great machine for many types of riders. It's lower cost and big brand name makes it very attractive for many riders..especially newer riders. It's smart of Polaris to keep this machine in the lineup. Great video.

    2020 Sportsman 450 dark green and black. Just did the first service on it today @ 22 hours on engine. It was a good time and easy to change front On Demand Drive fluid, rear AGL fluid was easy , oil change was tricky getting new oil filter back on but with enough fidgeting its easy. Absolutely love the bike. My best friend bought the exact same atv at the same time. We have been having a blast on these atvs. No issues on either atv so far.

    I am glad to see Polaris is still making entry level work horses, some people are not trail racers, mud boggers and just want to get out of the house and go for a ride. I enjoy my 2009 touring model as it has some creature comforts and can still be a utility when needed.

    Polaris makes a decent enough quad for the money. I had a 2012 sportsman 500 for 6 years and never had one single issue with it. 3600 miles of snow plowing, firewood hauling and riding. Complete fluid, filter and grease every September. Replaced the tires and wheels with ITP package just for shit and giggles. Beautiful machine in my opinion. I purchased a new Grizzly 700 in late 2017 because I got caught up in all the big bore, blue plastic, power steering, high ground clearance manliness and it's much more than I really need. Cost a lot more also.

    I’m happy Polaris has carried the 450 & 570 Sportsman models long enough (without any major changes) to work out the kinks and prove their quality and value. Having ridden many different atvs, I agree that the Sportsman has wonderful suspension for work/trail use. And even the 450 is quick enough to get you into trouble if you hold down the go lever long enough.

    I have the 2016 450 that actually came with a 570 engine in it. I also have the 2016 570 . Looking at both engines the only difference I see is the 450 has an electronic throttle. It's been a great machine. And so has the 570. Problems do come up, but alot of times that is due to how it is used or serviced. Even due to after market parts such as axels grenading due to bigger tires. Hard to find fault with it. Sure they could have more gadgets, but then again I dont want to pay more. Thanks DT for the vid

    It’s been a long time since I’ve driven a four wheel ATV but I can’t believe how much they cost now. Back in January 1998 I bought a new 1997 Sportsman 400 with a Warn winch for $4,500. Back then the Sportsman 500 was the only model above the 400 in Polaris’ lineup and cost about $1,000 more. Fast forward 20+ years and a Sportsman 1000 XP High Lifter costs around $14,500! Of course the machines today are light years ahead of the best machines from the late 1990’s but still a ATV that costs over $14k is insane. A Sportsman 450 with a starting price of $6,250 isn’t too bad though.

    ATV QUADS ARE STUPIDLY OVER PRICED!!

  • @scottfurlong5475

    @scottfurlong5475

    4 жыл бұрын

    It's relative to your income, financial situation and frame of mind. I can easily afford an entry/mid level quad so I don't think they are expensive. Someone else might not think that because of their lower income. I think modern, well equipped 1/2 ton pickup trucks are over priced because I can't afford one right now. Someone else may think they are very competitively priced because of their increased income. I see it all the time in the trades. If someone can't afford my services, they think I'm charging too much. Others haul out their cheque book in anticipation of a fee before I even give them a quote. I like those people, they are few and far between. Interesting story about atvs though, my buddy and his family purchased five 1996 Polaris Magnum 500 atvs and they cost $9600 cdn each. Fast forward to 2012 when I purchased a new Sportsman 500HO LE on sale for $6000 cdn. ($7000 MSRP). Fast forward to today when you can get a 500cc EFI Sportsman 450 for $7600 MSRP or a 570 EFI for $7900 MSRP. So I think the prices are ok as long as your expectations are realistic.

    I can't see why it would even be an option on the 450 since that model has traditionally been their entry level model since discontinuing the Hawkeye. The 450 has smaller tires, less ground clearance, an older chassis and used to have a bare bones instrument cluster. This one is also the utility version. There have been many iterations of the entry level sportsman from 400 with about 400cc, to 455cc, then 450 with 400cc, then 455cc and now a 450 with 500cc. I'm not sure what all the switching around is about but you would be hard pressed to find another quad in this class with more impressive specs for the price. You can routinely get one of these at $800-$1000 under MSRP and get some accessories thrown in. I picked up a 2012 Sportsman 500HO LE in 2012 for $6900 cdn on the trail. It was a great deal at the time.

I see no disadvantages going to CVT in an atv, I plow snow and haul firewood and both of my CVT equipped atvs have been stellar performers with not one issue, particularly with the belt which has long bared the brunt of the ridicule. Traditionally around here, Honda has been the mainstay for farmers and fishermen but that's changing rapidly as CVT equipped quads have more than proven their reliability.

    I've owned a Honda Rincon 680. Bolts on the stator backed out and destroyed my engine!! Honda isn't perfect either. It's a design flaw. Atleast if my transmission breaks with Polaris it will not destroy the engine! Love my 450 utility.. it's just as powerful as the Rincon 680
