Full press conference: Sheriff Grady Judd on recent fatal crashes in Polk County

Sheriff Grady Judd discusses several fatal crashes in Polk County that claimed the lives of eight people in the span of two days.
The sheriff said his investigators had just returned from their break after Christmas and were "high-fiving" because there hadn't been a single traffic fatality over the holiday weekend.
"We were excited about that, but that was short-lived," the sheriff said, adding that many of the crashes involved alcohol or drugs, or were otherwise intentional.

I had a drunk hit me at NOON and she was THREE TIMES the legal limit. She came off a side road and I never saw her coming. People said she never slowed down or anything just drove right into me. IF I had a passenger with me, they would have been killed! I was watchful before but since then, I watch EVERYTHING going on around me!!! Just as Sheriff Judd said...not everyone follows the law! I feel for the families who had loved ones killed in this SENSELESS accident, which should have never happened!

When I lived in Japan, we very seldom saw police issuing traffic tickets. Instead, there were traffic cameras everywhere. I was speeding one day and a traffic camera detected my speed and snapped a photo. I received a citation in the mail with a picture of me at the wheel and the date, time, speed, and GPS location printed on the picture. It clocked me 15 MPH over the limit. The ticket was for $400 dollars. The citation clearly stated when I needed to pay the ticket by before I would be summoned to court. It was the last time I ever sped in Japan.

When stopping vehicles the officer is thinking to save lives, not take them, the car would have rolled after loosing the rear axle which could kill anyone in that vehicle. The nets are also connected to the front of the patrol vehicle so the officer's car would be pulled along at that speed!! What would be safer is a device to cut the ignition, stopping the motor and the car safely still under control and have braking abilities. Similar to running out of gasoline, no more power.
