    I noticed that you did this portrait as if you're sculpting it from a block of clay. Shows an amazing ability to measure and use shapes. I need more construction lines for mine so i only feel comfortable using the Loomis Method, but I would like to measure like you. I did the 100 heads challenge back in October and found that i really enjoyed drawing old men. Their faces have so many lines and so much character. :)

    Your drawings are beautiful. Thank you for featuring strathmore. I will start earning to buy that sketchbook. I heard a lot of positive reviews about strathmore papers. The toned tan is perfect for pencil drawings and toned gray for graphite and charcoal.

    For a smoother texture, Michaels and other craft stores often have cardstock packs of various shades of grey, brown and other such colours too, cheap and good for sketching on since they're smooth :)

    I started to use more the same toned-gray sketchbook as yours, last summer, and it is very great after using it for a couple of drawings and sketches (because it is different than other papers for the color and the texture, need a little adaptation). The result with colored pencils on it is very interesting and satisfying for me, maybe you should try to draw something with this medium in your toned-gray sketchbook ! Also, I watch your videos when I need some inspiration (or motivation sometimes...) for my art, and my illustrations are better since I discovered your KZread chanel in April 2020, I learned so much by just watching your process, thank you so much ! :)

    Loved this video! :) Regarding what we would like to see first in your new skillshare tutorials, I personally choose eyes without even having to think about it. I've been drawing skulls and muscle-bone faces for days and days just so I could get to FIT the eyes where they belong, but they always look as floating, or just glued in the face T_T I can't seem to make them part of the face, blend with it, and I don't have any idea at this point of what is exactly where I'm failing so hard at. So I'll be definitely jumping into your eyes tutorial when you release it :)

    Really glad I ‘stumbled’ onto your page! Watching the sketch develop gets me ‘pumped’ for the day. I do like the texture of that paper...the artist’s hand becomes obvious in the rendering. Regarding the changing light...it seems to go from cool to warm and brighter to darker....Is your light the same throughout the entire room? Is the paper lit from both sides? I feel the iPhone tends to place a coolish tone over all the photos and videos needing a little color correction later on. Anyway, my 2 cents....Thanks for posting this drawing!

    I find better results by erasing a little bit from the area first and then add white pencil. Also use a brand with high pigment like polychromos, Blick brand, Caran d'ache, Derwent coulorsoft, etc. I find prismacolor white pencils to be weak in comparison to those brands.

    Lovely video, The top right portrait of the dark skinned woman is absolutely gorgeous, did you happen to record that drawing?? would love to see that one. Also, have you already or do you plan on making videos on figure drawing? I really love how you draw the body in your character sketches. My figure/character drawings feel so stiff because Ive gotten used to doing accurate academic/realistic studies, so I could use some help with getting out of that mindset with figures. Thanks so much, I love your channel and art pieces you make. Keep up the good work.

  • @ChrisHongArt

    @ChrisHongArt

    3 жыл бұрын

    unfortunately i didn't record the drawings at the top since I was just testing the paper out, which is a shame because I like how they turned out XD And I'm personally not the MOST confident figure draw-er, but for me I think what helped a lot was doing a ton of quick gesture drawings from real life models. Since that's not easily accessible right now I highly suggest concentrating on quick pose studies from reference! It really forces you to draw differently from doing the longer, academic studies of the figure, and makes you concentrate on portraying the rhythms of the body in a more simplified way :) I'm sure there are tons of great tips on KZread on gesture drawing. Good luck, and thanks so much for your comment!

    Hey, thank you for this video. I've been drawing along with you! In regards to the camera problem: Im not a photographer, I just have a little experience an some photographer friends: I think maybe the light always adjusting can be fixed by turning off an automatice adjusment setting (I'm not sure specifically which one or what it would be called) because when your hand enters the frame, the skin is reflecting a lot of light so the camera settings adjust, then when your hand goes back out of the frame it has to re-adjusts to the paper... I feel like there's a way to lock the "brightness" settings with the camera focussed on the paper for the whole video..... It can be done on an i-phone by holding down the brightness adjustment things that comes up.. Ok, sorry the length of that, I hope it makes some sense and possible helps! Much love x
