Full Flight in a Harbour Air De Havilland Otter from Vancouver, BC to Victoria, BC Canada

Ойын-сауық

Sit back, relax and enjoy the full flight from Vancouver BC to Victoria BC in a Harbour Air, De Havilland Otter with Captain Gavin. I had the privilege of sitting in the right seat with Gavin, an amazingly skilled and talented pilot for Harbour Air. Trust me when I say that this is one of my all-time favourite videos. Join me as we go through the safety briefing, start up the engine, taxi to position, and take to the skies above the stunning port of Vancouver and land at my home of Victoria, BC, Canada. I wasn't much of a co-pilot, I simply sat back, didn't touch anything and enjoyed every moment of being a passenger on this magnificent aircraft. C-GOPP
Before we begin, it's important to acknowledge that this aerial adventure was filmed within the shared, unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and on on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen people of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations. We extend our deepest gratitude to these Indigenous communities for their stewardship of the land.
This video is more than just a visual treat. My channel is dedicated to bringing you new flight adventures every weekend, allowing you to explore the world of planes, trains, automobiles, food reviews, and tourist attractions in the vibrant capital city of Victoria, British Columbia. New flights land here every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 4:00 am Pacific Time. As my horizons expand, so do the journeys across the vast and beautiful landscapes of Canada.
In the spirit of giving back, my channel is monetized, and I am thrilled to share that ten percent of my earnings will be donated to various charitable organizations. By tuning in, you're not just enjoying captivating content; you're also contributing to a greater good. Together, we can make a difference!
My friend and neighbour, Mike the mechanic, the reason this video happened, has chosen the charity, The Terry Fox Foundation. On an annual basis, I will donate 10% of the revenue from this video to The Terry Fox Foundation. This is a foundation near and dear to my heart. Great choice Mike! I am mere blocks from the Terry Fox monument at Mile Zero in Victoria, BC. I visit the Terry Fox monument on a regular basis. I stop and reflect on the incredible legacy this young man left behind. In my eye(I only have one), Terry Fox is one of Canada's true hero's. I have personally lost far to many good people from this horrible disease, cancer. I lost my little sister to breast cancer at 42. Thank you to The Terry Fox Foundation for all you do. Thanks to the fans of my channel, without you, my dream couldn't come true. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have provided a link, should you wish to make your own donation to The Terry Fox Foundation.

It would be nice to have a camera that can capture a turning propeller the correct way. The sound is great, editing, camera, etc. but the smartphone cannot do propellers. I did the same as you, but from the seaplane part of YVR south terminal. This is one of Canadas best airlines. I just took pictures.

@PeterNGloor, Thanks Peter for your kind words, engagement and support, I am truly grateful. I agree, the smartphone can't do propellers. That being said, my little frame can't hold the weight of a more sophisticated camera for more than a couple of minutes at a time. I can hold my iPhone 13 ProMax for almost an hour, arms extended. I couldn't agree more, Harbour Air is one of Canada's best airlines! I donate10% of what I earn through ad revenue on my channel to charity. I asked my good friend and neighbour, Mike the HA mechanic, which of my chosen charities should I donate to with this particular video, his choice is the Terry Fox Foundation. Great choice, Mike the mechanic, the Terry Fox Foundation will be the recipient of this video's charitable offering. Best....Corrie

In the 1990's I commuted regularly from Victoria to Vancouver for business. At one point I calculated the cost of ferry fares, gasoline, wear/tear, and work-time-down. It became obvious Harbour Air was the best option. This video is a trip back in time for me. So nostalgic that I put on headphones to simulate the white noise of the flight. Loved the service then and appreciate that I may well have flown on that very aircraft. Had it been an outbound flight I might have glimpsed my family home at Clover avenue and Moss street. Thank you Corrie. An absolute visual treat.

@yukonica4560, thank you for your kind, very engaging comment and support, I am truly grateful. Such an amazing story you share of the amazing Harbour Air. They are without a doubt, one of my favourite local companies. I do have a few full flight videos with different Otters. I'm pretty sure one of the outbound flights might show Clover and Moss. I walk the Clover Point, Moss St area often. Thanks so much for finding my channel, I hope you will come back. My wife and I took the first morning flight in the DHC-2 from Maple Bay on a clear crisp September morning. We could hear it from behind the boathouses sounding like a teenager having to wake up for school! Several turns later she fired up and shortly after poked out from behind the boathouses into the low rising sunshine! Our hearts MELTED! About 100’ off the terminal dock the pilot killed the engine. We were deeply in tune with EVERY sound coming from that beautiful radial engine and could clearly envision each piston, connecting rod, valves, lifters and springs working in melody to put it back to sleep. Then…silence, broken only by the lapping of the water on the pontoons as she quietly glided into dock. To top this off was the smell of the salt chuck, creosote pilings and BACON coming from an anchored ketch in the harbour! Our departure was no less spectacular! Being the first flight of the day, the pilot took several minutes gently increasing the throttle while intently scanning the instruments for any indication of a problem….there were none. Now he steadily increased to about 3/4 throttle, and the wake coming off the floats glistened in the early morning sun like a brides veil on her wedding day. Then…’balls to the wall’ jumped up onto its step skimming the surface increasing speed rapidly and lifting off and into the air! We did not use the available ear protection as we wanted to hear and feel EVERY roar and vibration coming from that beautiful radial engine! We were not disappointed! As you can tell by my description and the passion behind it, this truly was an experience of a lifetime! How did it feel? Take this description and multipy by the power of 10’💕💕💕

I think you and I share an attitude to aviation that the only thing better than watching aircraft is flying in them. I must admit that Vancouver - Victoria and back has to be one of the most memorable flights of my life. Another was flying in a Long Ranger helicopter in The Rockies. The third was 45 minutes in the back of a two seat Harrier. Three flights I will never forget.

Great video. Back in the 1970s for two summers I worked at Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories, right on the Arctic Circle. We flew up in Twin Otters from Yellowknife and return. They are wonderful aircraft and I have great memories of those flights. Also I got to fly several times in a Beaver and a small Cessna float plane. Float planes are my favorite plane to fly in. People who've never experienced what it's like to take off and land on water are really missing out.

2/22/24..Hi Corrie from New Orleans, La. USA. Love most all aviation channels & know pretty muc which direction flight is taken. Unknown on this flight as no map or direction was given; yes you know, but how many 'foreign' viewers know if you are going West or East? Had a good customer with Mobil Oil, from Moose Jaw. So was wondering which direction you were going. Suggest a quick map pic & maybe a color tape/string showing the path. Beautiful country views. You did not tell altitude, am guessing 1200ft? Fantastic a/c. Stay safe & carry on!👍

@jamescole1786, thanks James for your kind, engaging comment. I am grateful for your support. I have been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, an amazing experience. Victoria BC is on Canada's southern west Coast on Vancouver Island. The flight from Vancouver to Victoria is southwest. I have a similar video taken in a different Otter. The pilot of that video, Nick said this "Our flight from take off, outbound was 1000' until mid strait. Then we were given clearance to 1500'. Once we cleared YVR airspace, and entered Victoria airspace. We were given clearance once again, to climb to 2500 just south of Prevost island. Our cruising speed was 125 indicated. Roughly 140mph ground speed." I believe It would be virtually the same for this flight I'm not a pilot, I'm an airplane enthusiast with a camera in my hand. I've sat there a number of times. Best to be first in line to board, and just ask the pilot...

@cbrbird, Thanks Dave for finding the lounge. I am truly grateful for your engagement and support. The right seat is the best seat. I usually get there early, be really polite and gently ask the pilot "would it be ok if I sit in the right seat, I promise to behave, oh and can I record the whole journey". So far I've been incredibly fortunate and I really do behave myself. Best...Corrie.

@josephcooksley3219, thanks for your fun, engaging comment, I am grateful for your support. It’s not that far as the crow flies. To take ground transportation takes about 4 hours. 40 minutes from engine start up to shut down, and it’s a spectacular experience! Thanks for stopping by today. Best….Corrie
