I have the older version of this lens (without the aperture ring). I love it. I must have gotten an unusually good version of this lens, because I get very sharp images with great contrast (and I have good lenses such as the 16mm f1.4 to compare it to). It more or less lives full time on my X-T2.

I have the original 27mm f2.8 and I find it super sharp and it produces great images. Yes, the autofocus is a little noisey but it’s compact size makes up for that limitation and as long as you use it for photography only. And the focal length is great when you need something wider than 50mm but not quite as wide as 35mm.

I have had my lens for over a year now. For 6 months it was my most used lens. I read where someone called it the "Goldilocks" focal length... not too long, not too short... just right. I agree. I often go out with only one lens, and often wrestle with myself between the 23mm and 35mm. Now this lens solves that dilemma. With a bit of movement, the 27mm can do the work of either. Regarding the flare issue, it seem like you have no hood. I ordered my lens as a stand alone lens, not as a kit. The lens as sold alone comes with a tiny hood that can increase contrast in some situations. The hood can be bought separately and might be worth it to you. My only negative thing, the thing that I'm always finding as a limitation is the too long minimum focus distance. This is a function of the desire to keep it small, so the amount of extension is limited. I accept this limitation for the small profile. This lens lives on my X-E class bodies and my X-Pro2.

Thank you very much for the input. And yes I I will think I will buy a lens hood for it too. And indeed the minimum focus distance is bothering me as well. But the compact form it's amazing.

Thanks for the great review sir..I use it on my xe3 for years..first version but basicly same optics..mainly I use it on streets and its been working for me like charm..don't care about minimal focus distance since I'm not into macro photography at all..I don't shoot portraits since I have the 35mm 1.4&50mm f.2 dedicated lenses for it..on street it focuses so fast,40mm full frame equivalent focal length is perfect for me,lightweight and small enough that i can carry around inside my coat packet..i find the iq pretty satisfying for my taste..Agree 2.0 aperture would be much better for low light situations..

I feel ya complete. I photograph 10years with the Lumix 20mm F1.7. 3years before i changed to FUJI, and i tested all objectives & bodies, and not really gettin sattisfied. the 20mm F1.7 (40mm) was perfect. 20 cm near focus, 1.7 apature. in just a small pancake. But Lumix fail with the colors. Its a shitty thing - any soulution?

Is this the newest version? I see on B&H Photo there is a 27mm f/2.8 that is being listed as "New Release/Coming Soon" I interested in this lens for my XPro3. Its use with OVF looks to be a great match as you describe it. Thanks for documenting the good/not so good. As we all know, no lens is perfect of course ;)

My 27mm f2.8mm R WR caused an error message to be shown on my X-E4 camera: Turn off the camera and turn on again". Happens when trying to focus close up. It's been sent back to Fujifilm for warranty repair. Hugely disappointed in it.

Hi Snapithappy. I was curious with your comment. You mean to say that this lense has no pop that the, say 35/2.0 renders (micro-contrast & a bit of sharpness, etc.)? I was thinking of selling my 16/1.4 for this lense and the 16/2.8 for their compact sizes and supposedly acceptable IQs (hopefully at par with at least the 35/2.0). What do you think? I really like the popping IQs I get from my 35/2.0 and 50/2.0 which I don't get from my 16/1.4 that much. As much as I would like to get the 18/1.4 to replace my 16/1.4, I have to add a substantial amount for it compared with acquiring the combo of a 16/2.8 and the 27/2.8ii). Your thoughts?

35mm and 50mm f2 lenses are superb lenses as is the 16mm 2.8,

@@Snapit551 Thanks for your immediate response. Do you own the 16/2.8 validating your claim? If so, perhaps I should consider the 23/2.0 instead of the 27/2.8ii. But the reason why I'm hesitant in getting the 23/2.0 is because I'm likely going to get an X100v but maybe sometime after a year or two.

@@nathanielngosy all Fuji f2 primes are still excellent lenses and the 23 f2 is a bargain in the used market and you could always sell it afterwards when buying the 100v and personally I think the 23mm f2 is a more versatile focal length than the 27mm

@@Snapit551 Yes. the f/2's are all a bargain definitely. The 16's a 2.8 though. Have you personally used one AND if you have, was it enough especially in low light such that one can let go of the 16/1.4 without any regret?
