    Very informative video... I'm running into overheating issues with XT4 at 400 birate and it was constantly shutting down, especially at H265.

    Pal! wow,. I'm sorry to hear that. I really hope they really fix this down the road. I really love the output on the Fuji. I was very close to dumping all my Lumix GH5 for the X-T4. It was so close.

    I just upgraded my XT1 to a used XH1 and noticed that it started heating up over the course of a photo walk. Thought there was something faulty about the unit, turns out I had continuous IBIS on. Although it's not ideal, it's good to know it's a common issue/disadvantage to fuji bodies with ibis.

    Actually that is a good point. Some cameras do end up freezing in the cold temps. You are on to something skyes

    Quick question, when did your tests...did you flip out the screen to allow for heat to dissipate a little bit? I've found when doing that, it really helps out. Overall, with the tests you conducted, did you have the screen fully articulated on all 3 cameras? Or where they closed in?

  • @theCameraVille

    @theCameraVille

    4 жыл бұрын

    All closed my friend. Maybe by lifting it up might tune down the temperatures. After hearing from other folks with the X-T4 during vlogging , shuts down within 20 mins outdoors with the screen flipped.

    Thank you for this excellent quality content! Quick and straight to the point! Seeing that you also use the X-T3, I have a question regarding the thermal warning / shut-off: Do you know what component mainly drives the warning/shut-off? (processor heat, battery or the sensor itself?) I recently did some overheating tests (held the camera at warning-temperature for 2 hours and brought it to shut off repeatedly without cool down) and am worried that the sensor might get damaged through that. I would really appreciate your answer

  • @theCameraVille

    @theCameraVille

    3 жыл бұрын

    Oh yes! you will really damage your camera that way! I believe its a combination of all 3 but in my opinion .Its the processor in the camera that is doing the heating with the combination of the battery and the sensor warming up, it can cause a fusion of heat within the system and may damage your camera over time. Try not to do too many of these test! I notice some folks are reporting to me that they do see spots in their X-t30 and I know why now. I know Fuji don't make huge splashes like Canon or Sony when they over heat but overheating is something we should try to avoid. I am taking more closer look at my images from my Fuji after my test. If I do see spots , I will make a video on the effects of over heating.

I recently did some hot pixel tests (lenscap on, Long exposure noise reduction OFF, ISO 640, 5seconds, 10 seconds SS and definitely have some hot pixels (around 5) which are not visible when shooting faster SS. Do you think the amount at this SS is normal?

    Making the camera bigger will not help that much cooling the sensor, as long as you don´t fill the additional space with a lot of heat conducting metal, which makes the whole system very heavy. A fan you mentioned in the video can be susceptible to dust and dirt. The problem with IBIS is that the sensor has to have space all around to move. So you can´t place it directly on a somewhat massive frame with good heat conduction. With a fixed sensor PC-like cooling solutions with heatpipes or vapor chambers are possible to distribute the heat more evenly.

    Im actually testing out some 4K temps on dslrs. Trust me, these cameras don't have good ventilation and the results are very interesting. But yes by making it bigger but still adding more stuff in the camera isn't good. There needs to be more of a general airflow in the camera. They could perhaps have filters in the system for vents. Actually, I would love to see how Lumix deal with the dust and dirt that could potentially get in. All in all, there needs to be some kind of solution for this to be a future flagship.

    Do you think if we shoot in 1080p, in 30/60 fps, with some short clips at 120/240 fps , that we won't have heat issues.... I am looking to get the X-S10, but not sure I will immediately go to 4K resolution...if I do it will likely be for specific clips and not long durations.... but long talking segments I would think 1080p is going to be good enough... Don't think I am going to replace my failing Pentax with a new Pentax body.

    After about 2 weeks of research and investigating. I took the plunge and purchased an XT200 + 18-55mm lens for listreaming to my account. I was worried about overheating, but I just tested 4K HDMI out into OBS, and managed to record 4+ hours on the XT200, without any overheating issues. The trick: flip out the screen, and then turn off the LCD (toggle the 'view mode' button). Problem solved

    I didnt get any warning stmbols when my xt30 went up to 140f. I knew something was wrong so I measure the temps because its a compact system and it felt warm. On other brands its set to 120F for warning . Other brands like sony fix the a6300 overheating by removing the overheating warning temps🤦‍♂️ Good luck. Remember, circuit boards warps over time when too much heating is involved.

I sold my unit, and moved on. The Fuji camera looks cool though. I love how it looks when I put on a manual lens / Fuji lens. I love how compact it was. The over heating though, gosh. I just didn't want to deal with it anymore. With the weather these days getting hot ( just had a heatwave here) . I said no more. I'm currently using Nikon Z cameras and I havent looked back. Slightly bigger but anything to remove that over heating.

    The only thing I've found that works when my XT4 overheats is too strap an "gel ice pack" to the back. Yes, it sounds really stupid but otherwise you're basically screwed. I'm not even bringing my camera outside in the heat of the day, I shoot everything indoors. people should know that if you're doing mainly video the Fujifim xt4 is a poor choice. It's effectively non-usable in a pro setting because of the overheating problem. Unfortunately, the reviews I read (and saw on YT) did not mention overheating, so I bought the camera and now i've got a $2400 paperweight.

    If mirrorless cameras have to increase in size to avoid overheating, doesn't this defeat, at least in part, their purpose?!?! AFAIC, it's not an issue because I'm not into shooting video much. All these new cameras are so compact and loaded with stuff that, maybe, overheating should simply be considered the nature of the beast?!?! Is there a difference in temperatures whether you use a FF mirrorless or an APS-C mirrorless camera? Is 8K video really a necessity, is it a "need" or a "want" for most? Just asking. If some is good, more is better?

  • @theCameraVille

    @theCameraVille

    4 жыл бұрын

    Haha, Jean, that is the issue. There is 2 side of the coin, one side wants it all in a compact size, which we will get there one day. The other side wants it all but will let go the idea of compact size hehe. I never actually did a side by side with a APSC and a FULL frame but I believe the FF might be producing more heat. The sony A7 line up has increased in size drastically. Looking forward, I think Fuji will have to either make it bigger or separate their camera models. They make XH models the video centric video camera, less on the photo size. The XT-5 should remain the same size and continuing improving the IQ. I don't see myself needing anything more than 4K, so I will say yes 8 K is over kill; however, when I bought my first 4K camera 4 + years ago, people also said my 4K is over kill lol and 1080p is king lol. you cant win!

    Yea people are spoiled now lol. We want a cinema camera in a photography camera. I think if you're a video shooter mainly Blackmagic may be the way to go as you get a cinema camera without some of these issues. But then some features like IBIS will be missing. Pros and cons on both sides.
