Fujifilm GFX 50R 1st Impressions

Ғылым және технология

This is my first impressions review of the soon-to-be-released Fujifilm GFX 50R. This rangefinder styled digital medium format camera has been well received by those who have been fans of Fuji's classic aesthetic designs. Minus the size, shooting with the GFX 50R reminds me of shooting with classic Fujifilm cameras like the X100F, X-Pro2 and the newish X-E3. I had a pre-production copy for over a week and my thoughts on it so far is pretty positive. Performance is on par with the GFX 50S, although I much prefer the ergonomics of the rangefinder styled GFX 50R. Look for an upcoming unboxing and full review of a production copy with sample images. Thanks for watching, don't forget to like, subscribe and tell your friends.

    Andrew Power yes many at the event were surprised when handling it in person, but it’s just physics. The Hasselblad X1D is probably the most compact of all the digital medium format cameras, but it’s a leaf shutter system so it has no in body shutter.

    A question: the sensor is in a much smaller body then the GFX50S. So what about cooling at longtime exposure? did you compare both models at long time exp.? some different noise?

    I have GFX50s with 2 prime lenses and X-pro2 with 2 prime lenses. I was thinking to sell my X-pro2 with lenses and buy GFX50R but i am not sure nowadays. It has old sensor and processor and i was expecting better looking camera for sure. No OVF , No 3way tilt screen , No soft button and optional hand grip. I hope Fuji can make new 50megapixel BSI sensor “ real xpro2 “ look medium format camera. On-off switch button is looking and feeling very cheap. Top buttons too. I am a little bit dissapointed.

  • @bigheadtaco

    @bigheadtaco

    5 жыл бұрын

    +GKhan totally understand your disappointment, but you have to remember that this was made to be priced below what people would have expected from a digital medium format. Plus, the aging sensor is actually built by Sony and not Fujifilm (Fujifilm currently does not have the facility to build their own sensors as they did previously). Until Sony upgrades the sensor (it's actually 4 x M43 sensors fused together) everyone is stuck with this processor, including Hasselblad and Pentax. Wait for the GFX 100S next year, and probably following a GFX 100R after. I would wait if you want more performance.

  • @GKhanKutar

    bigheadtaco if Fuji ask Sony for BSI 50megapixel new medium format , Sony can do it. New Leica S has new medium format sensor and no other brand can use it. I understand the price tag of GFX50R but Fuji doesn’t need to make that cheap medium format camera and fight with FF. Fuji says we won’t make FF cameras , but with that GFXR , I can understand that they made a cheap camera also to fight with FF too. I would expect high quality finished ( X1D , Leica SL or X-pro2 quality ) rangefinder style camera ... I hope upcoming GFX100s is not coming with fixed integrated battery grip. It should be optional. The mock up looks ugly!!!

  • @bigheadtaco

    @bigheadtaco

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@GKhanKutar for sure, but it'll cost them. I think currently Sony is working on the next generation sensor for digital medium format, and I think everyone will upgrade. Leica's sensor is not from Sony, and the sensor size is also different. However, the more players and more sensors sold will definitely drop the price. That's why it took over 20 years before 35mm sensors dropped in price.

    Gord Webster the Fujifilm tech rep in Vancouver got the camera last weekend and has been making it available for the "reviewers" and interested customers so nothing really special about Canadians getting it in advance of anyone else. No images from this R, as it is a pre-production unit. I had a chance to have a close look at it on Tuesday and at the request of Gord no cards in the slots.
