FT-710 AESS: Setting Up CW Band Stacks (video #15 in this series)

Ғылым және технология

I’ve had a number of requests to shoot a video series about the Yaesu FT-710 AESS, similar to my FTdx10 series. Ham Radio Outlet loaned me a Yaesu FT-710 AESS for just that purpose.
In this video I show some initial setup steps for CW mode, as I load some CW frequencies into some of the band stack registers.

i am looking at buying my first HF radio and have been watching your series on the 710. i will be watching your series on all your other radios. really apprecaite the way you take the time to show a good setup, how to use the features. its really helpful to understand the tools these radios have. i'm also an audio guy and didn't realize with these radios you could do so much to maximize the modulation. PEQ and compression on board is nice. anyway nothing to do with CW but just wanted to say i'm enjoying the series and thanks for doing it.

I’m glad you’re finding the videos helpful. I want everyone to get the most from whichever radio they choose. If your budget can stand it, I suggest the FTdx10, FWIW. It provides the most functionality for the most operating styles. If you only plan to rag chew or operate FT8, then the FT-710 AESS is enough radio. 73, de N4HNH

Yes, the tone on tx sounds a bit weird but i assume the transmitted signal is fine. Thanks for the video. 73

The popping sound made it difficult for me to send. After the March and July updates, many bugs are fixed. The popping sound is still there but not terrible.

So is there a way to save these settings, so you get this same profile each time you return to the same band?

That’s what band-stacking does. This was an initial setup of some CW band stack registers for a few bands. There are 3 band stack registers available for each band. The radio remembers everything you set in each band stack until you return to that band stack and change it. Note that it doesn’t remember global parameters, like RF power, CW speed, etc. You cash also save favorite frequencies, modes, filter settings to memory slots. I do that. I’ve covered that in other videos. I’ve also covered band-stacking more extensively in other videos. Video #3 in the FTdx10 series covers babd-stacking in more detail. You bring to mind the fact that I need to emphasize more that this is a teaching channel. Radio reviews or tutorials are secondary. No matter which radio I’m using in the video, the techniques I cover can apply to other radios. I suggest watching videos from the other playlists to learn more operating techniques. I covered techniques in the FTdx10, and even the FTdx5000MP, playlist that I might not cover in this series, because I’ve already shown those techniques. The only difference with a different radio is where the controls are located (i.e. knobs, buttons, menus). Thank you for the reminder! 73, de N4HNH

Does the FT-710 have the ability to define lower AND upper band edge limits? Thanks

I reported it when I noticed it. Future updates helped but never completely eliminated it. Is a beginner radio. Better receiver and DSP than the IC-7300 but still missing some things. I got in trouble with Yaesu for pointing out the flaws. That’s why I have a Patreon team. Manufacturers wish to censor me.
