Fruit Scone Recipe easy

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here I am making easy fruit scones . This recipe is very easy and will make about 8 delicious fruit scones for only 0.14p each.
Fruit Scones.
300g SR Flour 0.15
80g Unsalted Butter 0.60
1 tsp Baking powder 0.03
Punch of salt 0.00
30g Castor Sugar 0.05
100g dried fruit 0.25
150ml Milk 0.09
Total £1.17
The recipe should make about 8 scones @ 0.14p each
Mix the Flour - Baking Powder and salt together in a bowl.
Add the cooled butter and rub in.
Add the sugar and fruit and stir.
Stir in the milk and bring to a dough.
(The idea is not to overwork the dough and to keep it light)
Roll out to about 2.5 - 3cm
Cut into scones, put on a baking tray and brush the tops with egg or milk.
Bake in an oven at 200c for 12 - 15 mins

My wife's first professional job was as the chef in an old folks home. She can still knock up 80 scones in 40 minutes, in fact she can produce 40 portions of anything that can be eaten without teeth in no time at all.

When I was a young chap I worked in a musterers camp on a remote station for a year. When I went back the next year, the camp cook had gone walkabout. As there was only two of us ringers from the previous year who knew the camp spots and because the other bloke was head stockman, I had to cook. Well at first I thought it was a humiliating and backwards step but I stepped up to the challenge and mastered scones every morning smoko in the camp oven. Well guess what....I soon became the most famous and revered bloke on the station ......and Im sure it was the bloody sultanas!

Man, this took me back 40 yrs...as a young adult I spent sometime back in Ontario. I came across this small coffee type shop called Harry Ten Shilling in a village called Shakespeare. This is where I first came across scones and Devonshire cream. Man I was hooked. Marks & Spencer's were still here in Canada and that is where I purchase the little bottles of Devonshire cream and go home and add it to my scones with jam. Good times, a different time...

Nice. Being an American Southern girl, I know how to make biscuits. I still firmly believe that scones are where we got biscuits from. Not cookies, as y'all call biscuits. Appalachian mins and the Blue Ridge, where I'm from, was settled by Brits, Irish,Scots,Welsh, and Germans. Biscuits are a staple food even now. But mad with buttermilk and shortening or lard. I've tried scones before and have a church function soon. Gonna use this recipe and make some bite sized scones. Love your accent !!!

Hi, I’m a new subscriber and with the cost of things today anything that can be made on a budget is right up my alley! Thank you for reminding me of this recipe, the only difference between yours and the one my mom used to make …she would use buttermilk but most of the time when she didn’t have it on hand she would add a splash of white vinegar to the milk and let it sit until it began to separate and it would make for a delicious biscuit. I’m not sure if she also used baking soda and the vinegar would have also had a chemical reaction with the baking soda to help them rise more? I can remember the delicious flavour and how incredibly soft they were. We used to slice ours in half and butter them and then turn the butter side into a hot fry pan and toasted them until golden and then removed and added more butter and then strawberry jam. Yummy! I’m from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. ❤️🥰🇨🇦🙏🏻🍁

It’s quite simple really. Take the price you’ve paid for the ingredient. Example butter. If you paid 5.00 for a pound of butter and you used half a cup. Find out what that half cup weighs in ounces and then divide. So if you paid 5.00 for a pound, and you used half a cup, that’s a quarter of the pound as there usually is two cups in a pound of butter. So 1.25 for that ingredient. Do that with all your ingredients. Write it down, then you can refer to that price instead of always calculating. Cheers.

Your awesome! In regards to food cost, I always added 10% to the final cost to cover any waste or error or partial left over. Its near impossible to be perfect with portioning. the goal of food costing is to be able to set a proper price. Teaching the teacher so you can decide if you want to pass it along. Add 10% to your food cost estimation to cover human error. I see you read and respond to comments. Im a big fan of your straight forward time/cost effective recipes. Hope this adds to your show

This is a really good recipe. I have got discharged from hospital after 16 weeks and Ive to follow the same meal plan as we had there. It was stuff like Veggie quiche, roast port cheese flan, liver onions and mash, gammon steak, breaded haddock or poached or smoked fish, haggis or stovies, proper old school food with semolina or creamed rice or custard and something for dessert, and scones doughnuts and lots of milk. I doubt doughnuts can be home made, but I can do these scones and I need to learn to do creamed rice too, the hospital chef says its easy, and delicious with stewed rhubarb. Thank you

Good luck with the channel. I thought the recipe and instructions were brilliant. I loved your kitchen knife, something like that is excellent for many things besides cutting. I agree that handling should be kept to a minimum that is the secret of non-bread products, but it isn't about air, handling encourages the molecules of gluten, which we want in bread but not in things like scones or pastry. I'm looking forward to your drizzle cake and thanks for doing all the workings out, sometimes cooking writers forget we don't all have limitless budgets.
