Front Sway Bar Removal and Weight from a 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

And so the weight reduction continues as we get closer to The Big Showdown 2 KZreadr Callout. This time we go underneath my 2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 and drop the front sway bar, because there's no corners in drag racing! And if I ever do hit up a road course, it won't be hard to re-install it as evidenced by how easy it was to remove it, as you'll see in this video. And of course we weigh it all up at the end to see how much we saved!

I have a Craftsman 20v impact wrench, and it breaks those nuts loose in seconds (without spinning the ball joint). If the ball joint is shot, spinning, and needs to be replaced anyways... I use a "pickle fork" on the ball joint side and pry it against the sway bar, then break the nut loose with the impact.

I'm wanting to remove mine for weight savings, but am concerned about the daily driving and handling of how it'll affect my 392. I do have a strut brace I've installed that was only 8lbs. By itself not much, but collectively it all adds up. But probably more than anything it'll help with traction if you have any issues there since the weight is in the front and removing it will help with weight transfer. It's easy to remove though and you hardly even notice it missing so I know several people that removed it even without stripping their car out. What class are you racing in? @@jaystepp150 sticky is good. I know I didn't have any traction issues last year. But yeah, any weight over the rear wheels would help, maybe even run with more gas in the tank than you usually do. Since the race is basically a bracket and it's going to be too warm for anyone to be setting new personal bests, being consistent and hooking matters more than being a little bit faster from less weight.

yeah, I think we had a chat in one of the 1320 facebook groups too. Suspension wise and how the car reacts I can't tell any difference at all. E.T. wise, it would be near impossible to notice anything. Going off the old formula of 100 pounds equals .100 et, then the 12 pounds saved here would give you .012. Combined with all my other weight reduction though, thats what helped me run an 11.3 in 1000 DA the other week. I'll say this too, my 11.3 was actually an 11.399, so had I not removed this bar, that weight alone would have slowed me down at least .001, and that would have meant no 11.3 for me.

I would never do this unless you're gonna dedicate that car too 100% racing. You absolutely can tell it's not there, it makes the car feel like a damn boat. If you're gonna go this far, why not strip the interior, carpet, sound deadening, rear seat, passenger seat? Get ditch the stock front wheels and put on a set of skinnies. 15x5's, and swap the back for some forged aluminum 18x11's. Swap the hood, trunk lid and doors for fiberglass, replace door glass with plexi. That will save far more weight and give better results at the track than a sway bar removal. Getting rid of the sway bar isn't going to make you any faster at the drag strip my man. Not even a tenth; but it will make the car turn like shit.

Missed your comment somehow, sorry about that. First, I did do some of that other stuff, check out my weight reduction playlist. I still have more to go but my mantra I've gone by forever is that 'it all adds up'. So yeah, the sway bar alone wouldn't hardly make any difference, but added together with 20 other small things it adds up to something bigger. That's how I've shaved 365 pounds off my car so far. And as far as turning, it's been doing just fine on the road for me since I took it out last spring. If I took it onto a road course I'd obviously put it back on, but taking it on and off is a 10 minute procedure so it's not a big deal at all, and most of the time I'm daily driving I don't even remember that it's missing.
