It's interesting to me that Chandler seems to have both an almost perfect friendship with Joey and a romantic relationship with Monica. You'd usually see a character not focus on one in order to focus on the other but that's not the case here.

Chandler is nearly the perfect dude. I love that character.

There are so many good Joey/Chandler moments throughout the show, but I think my favorite is the scene at the end of The One With the Box where Chandler waves goodbye with his finger instead of saying anything so he can honor his vow of silence to Joey and Joey lets him out of the box so he can chase after her. One of the most well-written friendships in TV history.

What I love about that scene with the sándwich is that afterwards Joey shares it, and if there is something that has been made clear Joey doesn't share food, so it makes it even more meaningfull

At some point, I started telling my close friends that I loved them whenever we left or got off the phone with each other. It felt silly and awkward at first, but soon they started saying it back and now it just feels normal. I'm glad that no matter what happens or how long it takes for us to hang out again, we aren't too nervous to share our feelings and they know that I love them.

Joey's line "Now you have a reason to come visit" actually makes me really sad. It sounds like he's expecting Chandler to spend all of his time with Monica and almost never have time for Joey anymore, so Joey needs to have a reason to make Chandler come visit.

@@MizMima Thats an important thing to realize in those kinds of relationship eras. Sometimes you have to go through a period where you arrange all the hangouts and eventually when youre in their shoes too they will have to come in and help you out with what they learned.

How much time does the average 30 something with a career and a relationship/marriage spend with their friends?

Their bromance feels very personal. Its really wholesome. They never had that sort of bond with Ross. Rachel and Monica were similarly close. And although its not explored much but Ross and phoebe also shared quite a bond- especially the time he bought her a bike, or helped her relationship with Mike. We all know Phoebe and Joey had a special bond but its hard to look over Phoebe and Ross's friendship as well. They bicker like siblings but then also support each other through worst.

And I like they seem even more close instead of making like Ross and chandler always have to be together because they’ve been friends since hs there relationship is pretty established and we get to see how Joey joined in an was the perfect fit

I love the one where Shawn is heartbroken about things changing between them when Cory gets married to Topanga. I also like the one where Shawn thinks he has to hang out with the school bullies, because he thinks that is his future.

I text my friend and said "Time to dig", she sent back "Dog or husband? Just need to know what sized shovel to bring 🤔 ". My dog of 15yrs had died and she knew I needed the chuckle...she was here within 10 minutes. That's what our relationship is like.

About the gift thing: when I was a kid, I had a best friend that bought me a doll for my birthday and I was a little disappointed cause it was kind of... odd looking. I tried to hide it at first, of course - but eventually I didn't need to, because it ended up being my favorite stuffed animal just because it was birthday present from her and that's all that really matters.

Their friendship was the most beautiful thing in this show ❤

I have a best friend like this, we appreciate and know how special our friendship is. Its nice to hear a therapist talking about how healthy it is and that it is comparable to marriage because I think people that don't have a friendship like that can't understand

ooh i wish you would’ve cover more about the money/financial aspect of their friendship, as chandler basically financially supported joey for a long time (with rent, and other stuff for his acting career) and i do wonder how to set healthy boundaries with these things. great video as always though!

@@radhiadeedou8286 I think its healthy if you support someone working towards a career that involves struggle early on. Joey wasn't lazy, he was always going to auditions & trying to get booked. That's the kinda person people don't mind dragging along, not the person who says they want something but puts in zero effort.

"Keep shining, we need your light" is such a beautiful sentiment.

In terms of my best friend, I’ve known her since high school. We were both alone and managed to find each other. Even when we go months without talking, when we can hang out again, it’s like no time has passed. There are so many times where I miss her, and the pandemic made this hurt incredibly hard, but I can trust in the knowledge that we’ll be okay next time we can be together.

My friendship with my best friend is a little different because he's a man and I'm a woman. We do not see each other that much since we both have kids and all (we used to see each other twice a week) but I'm happy to know he's my friend and always will be. Sometimes I'm just happy to remember that my friends are existing in this world.

My mom always told me that one of the indicators of a deep and good friendship was that you could go months without talking, and then pick up with the same energy or reach out if you ever needed anything. I’m only in college but I’ve known my best friend since 1st grade and we’ve been “designated besties” since 7th grade. I go to school in a different state and she stayed in our hometown (the university there is like nationally renowned so she’s getting an arguably better education for tens of thousands less 😅😅) and we’re bad at keeping in touch over the school year but whenever I make it back for breaks she’s always who I hit up first and we’ll hang out all day and (I’m starting to tear up I love her so much) it’s not awkward and it’s so wonderful

I met my best friend on a plane and we spoke for like 6 hours straight. We always have lived a few hours away from each other but we still would go visit each other at least once a year. We went on trips just the two of us. Our situations changed a lot since we met but anytime one of us offers to do something, we will both make the effort to make it work. As I struggled to get enough money to attend her wedding a few years ago even though she didn't even think I would be able to come, she did the same more recently to accompany me to a pretty pricey music festival where she didn't even know any of the bands but just didn't want me to go by myself. I would love it if we lived closer together so we could see each other more often but I at least know that any distance will not make us grow apart. I mean, it's been that way for 12 years now.

My best friend and I met in college and instantly just understood each other. I had trust issues with friendships but she never gave up on me, helped me open up, taught me that people could be trusted and loved. Through every heartbreak, she's been by my side as I have been with her. We both struggle with serious mental health problems and support each other throughout. I am so grateful for her existence. I think I can lose any other friend but her. She's just irreplaceable.

Chandler was the character I always connected with. I'm very much like him To the point where I can perfectly imitate the Chandler dance. My friends request it all the time haha

I'd love an episode about Phoebe and her friendships with everybody. I think she's a real model after everything she's been through.

I met my best friend when we were both 12 years old. 15 years later, we've shared more than half our lives and she is one of those rare people who I would never hesitate to share secrets with or ask for help

My best friend is actually my mom. Growing up in an extremely patriarchal society where I couldn’t even wear skirts as a 10 year old, she tried to shield me and protect me as best she could while raising me with values that could easily get us in trouble. It was hard, a lot of it came off as aggressive and pressuring, like she was the bad guy in my eyes. At some point, her and I just couldn’t stand to be around each other. Then something happened, she decided to heal her trauma, I decided to heal mine and we found a way to heal together. I saw her point of view, she saw mine and we were able to get to a point of just understanding that everything we did was out of love and that’s what we nurtured. Every since, even though it’s still a process, I can’t imagine any other person as my best friend or my mother. She’s my hero in every sense of the word and I spend every day trying to show her just how much I appreciate her.

My best friend Erica and I met at 14 in a choir rehearsal. We sat next to each other for three days during our school districts choral fest. We were the only sopranos in wheelchairs and were instant friends. The next year, we attended the same high schoo, and quickly became inseparable. We didn’t have many classes together except choir, but we relished those long rehearsals, concerts, and competitions. There’s an unexplainable bond amongst disabled girlfriends. There’s a host of things you don’t even have to say because your other disabled friends just get you in ways no one else possibly could begin to imagine. Years later, she moved into my building and we proceeded to practically live together like the eternal teenagers we were for most of our 20’s. She surprised me one birthday by having friends clean and decorate my apartment because she knew I couldn’t do it myself. She also filled my apartment with new Disney things for my collection. She was my best friend. My sister. The Stitch to my Lilo. Erica died in her sleep unexpectedly 4 months after her 30th birthday. I miss her every minute.

I lost my best friend of 30 years to cancer. There’s still a deep hole in me.

I met my best friend in my first year of university. We instantly hit it off and would often share a bed so we could stay up and talk about the boys we liked or were heartbroken over, the dreams we had and the mistakes we’d make with our assignments When she got a serious boyfriend (now her husband) I was jealous and it was hard to suddenly share her and have her around less but when I got to know him I realised she’d basically found a male version of me 😂 I eventually found the right guy for me and she was incredibly supportive with my commitment issues (lots of crying that I didn’t want to love him as much as I did because it felt too vulnerable and would be too easy to get hurt) It’s been fourteen years since we met and she lives five hours away from me now, so we don’t see each other more than a handful of times a year but we message each other almost daily sometimes, then others we’ll be silent for a month or so - and that’s okay! The love I feel from her is like no other. If I were to turn up at her house without warning I’d be made welcome and safe and it would be the same for her To keep our spark alive we leave the husbands at home and go on a girls holiday to a cottage in the middle of nowhere, drink fizz and chat nonsense in a hot tub for a week every year and wow do we ever look forward to it I love her so much ❤

Definitely my favourite friends duo by far. Reminds me a lot of my own best friend where lifes taken us different places but we always come back to eachother like no time has passed. I feel so grateful for her.

One of my dearest friends...her and I have been through stuff. She watched my marriage unravel, and I walked her through the death of her husband. One time when we got in a fight - I got butt hurt feels about not being the first to know she changed her phone number. It turned into a 3 day thing! Finally a weekend came along and I knew we both would be available. I went to Starbucks and ordered her favorite drink and snack and showed up at her house. She was overwhelmed that I would seek out to mend our silly difference and bring a peace offering. We are no longer in the same states, and we have each found love again. We still make time for each other though. We still are each other's safe place where we vent without worry or fear of our words being misunderstood. We celebrate each other's wins and we cry together. Her children are like nephews and nieces to me, and my children regard her as family...an aunt as well. Our friendship is very precious to us even despite the distance. We learned healthy relationships with each other, and we both found healing from trauma in our first marriages. Many many walks together talking and praying over our kids and circumstance! Many tears cried together! Finding faithful true friends is rare and should be treasured!

My Bestie is my light. We tell each other everything. We love like true sisters. And we're there for each other, come what may. When she went away for studies for a year, it felt awful. But when she came back it was like she never left. We talk each other through our individual crises, hold and pull each other up whenever we need it. I love her with all my heart and I would trust her with my life 🥰

I don't have a best friend, but Joey and Chandler are the best.

I was the Joey moving in with my to-be spouse and her roommate. Later my spouse and I bought the house with a Joey Room for the roommate to move with us. Roommate found their own spouse who moved in and they would became the Joey to my Chandler. Later still they moved out together to make room for our coming baby. I felt this from ALL sides.

My best friend and I are 11 years in. From 16 till 27 years old. We’ve gone through deaths, boyfriends, ex boyfriends, sickness, abuse, and having a long distance relationship. Not being afraid to hurt each other’s feelings when needing honesty. My family consider her our family, and I to hers. I can’t think of anything that may tear us apart. And I am so incredibly happy, proud, and grateful to be able to say that. I love her to pieces

I met my best friend when I was 5. Our last names were right after each other alphabetically so we sat right next to each other every year we were in the same class for the next 2 decades. We've since moved away from our hometown to different places and barely talk at all. We are definitely in different points in our lives but everything just sort of fits into place whenever we do get in contact. I may not have much in my life but I'm glad I was blessed with friendship.

Your relationship with your best friend sounds amazing

The gifting thing is relatable. My oldest brother and I have stopped giving each other birthday and Christmas gifts, even if it’s still expected with other members of the immediate family. We eventually realized we were just trading money back and forth, so we decided to just call it a truce of “no gifts on annual celebrations.” If I see something fun that I think he’d like as a gift, I’ll pick it up and give it to him just because, but it’s no longer expected.

I knew I had a best friend when I went from hating her laugh and sense of humor to loving it. And I knew I had a best friend for life when we would continue our crazy shenanigans even when we stopped going to the same highschool. I hope one day we will be in the same city again, but for now I’m just grateful to videocall her from time to time and still have my spot in her life as her maid of honor, future babies god mother and sister ❤

My best friend and I met in college I continued on while he only stayed for a year, He and his folks were the first folks I ever celebrated a major holiday with other than my own family. He's the first guy I ever met that I knew would go to war for me and I was the same with him he's a dad now and I'm an Uncle. We don't talk often but when we do we chat for hours.

My best friend’s been with me since high school. We’ve known each other for about 7 years now and we live ~3h away from each other, but whenever we have a problem we call each other. We don’t talk or text much, maybe once or twice a year, but when something big happens, we call, and we talk about life and stuff, we tell each other stuff that I wouldn’t normally tell anyone else, we also check-in to see how the other is doing. She’s always been the most responsible out of us two, and she’s been doing well in life. She’s doing so well but I’m not jealous because she’s had such a rough couple years and she deserves all of it.

Have you seen "Crazy ex-girlfriend"? I woul love to hear you talk about Rebecca or any other character.

I met my best friend in kindergarten. Although we had different friend groups in middle school, we were always there for each other and sat together when our friend groups excluded us. They are my family and know everything about me. We accept each other for who we are, not by what we can gain from the friendship. I hope that in the future our kids will be friends in the same way that we are, cause everyone deserves a friend that is unconditionally kind and generous.

I think that the best proof of Joeys and Chandlers friendship is the part when Chandler had to be closed inside the box because he he fell in love with Joeys girlfriend (I don't remember her name). This one stuck with me as the best one.

Me and my best friend love each other ❤️ he is a wonderfull human being and as lazy as I am. Happy that now I understand my true feelings for him - and the fact they're mutual :)

My dearest friend, Sally and I have been friends since we were nine. We were thrown together as some of the only kids regularly present during a club our moms were members of. We bonded early over having weird parents and being socially out of it a lot of the time due to having those strict hippie parents (weird food options, limited TV, no video games, etc.). Over the years our friendship has grown and stretched, ever present. Sometimes we have spent nearly every day together (college years when we lived two blocks from each other) to months when we barely get a chance to talk. But we always know that we are there. I love seeing real friendships presented on the screen.

I met my best friend in junior high when I moved to a new city. She was the first person to show a genuine interest in getting to know me, which was huge since I was a very shy and insecure preteen. We’ve just always been there for each other and when anything big or small happens in my life, she’s one of the first people I want to talk to. We’re going on 20 years of friendship, and right now we’re both pregnant with due dates one week apart…it’s like our high school fantasy is now our reality 🥰.

I don't have a best friend. I have never had a friendship like this. I have never been anyone's friend, I'm always just the buddy, and nothing more. I also don't know how to pick up where leaving off after time has passed. No matter who, everyone becomes a stranger to me if enough time passes.

I either don't have a best friend or I have multiple people I would call my best friend, so I'm not sure which it is, but I am very blessed with wonderful beautiful friendships. I LOVE chandler and joey so much. Chandler is my favorite Friend and I feel really close to him even now many years later.

Now I want a video on Cory and Shawn from Boy Meets World. Especially seeing the wedding part in this video made me think of Cory and Topanga getting wedding. Also a therapist reacts to Danny and Steve's relationship on Hawaii Five-0 would be fun to see too!

I wish to have a friendship like this one day

I've just realised my friendship is pretty similar to theirs, and I'm Joey. I had my wedding planned, and after that we wanted to start trying for a baby with my ex. But the wedding never happened, and I'm single since. My friends are married/pregnant/planning their wedding. And I'm in this situation where I didn't see myself half a year ago and I was so worried to meet them. Deep down I wanted to have what they have, what I lost. And obviously I met each of them and as soon as saw them and their happiness, I was happy for them too. And it was immense relief. I was, in fact, afraid to meet them because I didn't want to have ugly feelings towards them but I guess I underestimated the power of friendship. I have Joey rooms and I was offered my own set of bedlinen as well. And I'm really lucky to have friends like them.

I am fortunate enough to say that I have the most amazing, loyal, generous and loving friends I could ever imagine. I cannot say honestly whom is the best friend amongst them but I can say who has been there the longest, in any case, they have all been there when I needed them and I try to reciprocate, I often feel I don't deserve them but they assure me I do, and that is the highest compliment I could receive. Wherever you are, I love you all!

Yeah I remember when my best friend got her own place and moved out, we were all like 20, and I just knew things would never be the same. I cried and hugged her and I said I was scared because things were going to change. She told me they wouldn’t but they did, because of course they did that’s just life. It’s not a slight against her, we’re just in different places now, different paths to walk

Chandler and Joey are the best! I love their chemistry on screen and honestly, this is the relationship I like to watch the most. I definitely feel the jelousy in my friendship, just like Chandler. The thing is, I'm more of a loner, so I only have one best friend. But I'm not that best friend's best friend, she actually has quite a bit of friends and some are closer to her than I am. And to be honest, that is totally on me. We probably would have lost our friendship at some point if it wasn't for her involvement, cuz I wasn't such a great friend and wasn't committed enough (mainly due to me being a loner, but not just that). But thanks to this amazing channel and also Cinema Therapy (and simply continuing to grow up as well, I guess), I've come to realize my problems and I now aspire to become a much better friend. I do get jelous of my friend's other friends, especially since I've got to spend more time with her best friend lately and I realized how far we are from getting to that point, but I'm working on my side of things. And things are getting better and better, we've definitely become closer than before and we've started to really bring out the best in each other and we're motivating each other to achieve our goals and become the best versions of ourselves. And I think that's one of the main things I expect from a friendship, to just be there for each other and motivate each other. And in the past I would get jelous over my friend's success, but now I can be genuinely happy for her, because I remind myself what Jono have said in the video, her success does not mean my failure - and it wasn't that easy for me to realise and truly accept, as I'm a very competitive person and our goals were often similar, if not the same. Anyways, this was a long ramble, I just want to say I'm thankful for both Mended Light and Cinema Therapy. I take your advice to heart and aspire to be a better person in general and I feel like I'm really getting there, bit by bit. Keep shining, we need your light!

I don't think you ever truly know that someone would be friends with you for life. BUT I do have friends that we've been there for each other for years at this point and we genuinely can't see a future where we aren't friends and we talk about that from time to time. The ease, the understanding, the assurance, the vulnerability and the fact that we have seen each other in multiple phases and multiple versions of ourselves. That's what gives me faith that we'd be good. The bond is deep.

So interesting 😍 I would love for you to cover the series Leverage. I think there is a great deal to find. Especially Nate and Sophie as well as Hardison and Parker. I really really hope you do it. This makes me so happy! My best friend and I have known each other since we were 10, and we are so different but even as we and our lives have changed over the years, we just always enjoy each other. I love seeing healthy friendships similar in that way, that you both grow and change and are doing different things but just friend ways to love and enjoy each other, especially depicted on screen. PS We have the 40 years old pact with each other, where if neither of us are in commuted relationships by 40 we’ll move in together and get a bunch of pets 😊

You know when you have an amazing friend when they just are there for you and listen. You love them like family and you almost sense when something is off. Me and my bestie have been told we share a brain. We finish each other sentences and just know each other so we’ll that we know where the conversation is going 😂. I feel blessed to have a true friend like her in my life. ❤

My friend and I don't really ever see each other. But we text each other all day everyday and I know this is a forever friendship because we can go from having really deep, emotional conversations to just joking around within seconds and there's hardly any big fights. Our biggest fights have been over our own anxieties because of past friendships/family relationships and it never ever is because one of us purposefully tried to harm the other

My husband & his buddies are so funny. They’ll playfully fight to pay each other’s dinner bill, buy drinks for each other, great gifts for each other. That includes the whole family. A loving, giving, funny friendship.

I have 6 best friends. I'm humbled by their unflagging love and support. We make time for each other and keep in touch in different ways. Communication, honesty, and love have made these friendships 10+ years strong. I knew K-woman would be my BFF when she let me cry on her kitchen floor when I was depressed. Birdy Girl became my BFF over time as we grew and supported one another through life challenges. My girl, M, says we became friends when I yelled at her that she was talented and valuable. The beautiful L and I become BFF's over many 30 minute lunches and lots of oversharing. Roommate and I became BFF's when I made too many puns and he told me "F*ck you." Only real friends feel comfortable enough to say that to your face with love. Katchi and I became BFF's one cold morning when he apologized for puking in the rental car, expected me to be mad, and I just hugged him. There are more amazing friends in my life I will love forever. These are the 6 who day in and day out make me a better person. I hope I do the same for them.
