Great demo! Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate the Runt’s clean sounds. A great amp should be able to do clean as well as overdriven crunch tones. So many reviews just focus on thick, heavy metal chugging. It was good to see that the Runt is versatile enough for cleans and Jazz, and also delivers some great hard rock stuff! Also, your English is very good! Keep up the good work.

Nice review. You're right, this is such a great amp. Perfect wattage for any type of venue (Can get REALLY loud, but sounds perfect at lower levels, also). The cab sim out was the selling point for me. Considered the Pink Taco, and Small Box, but opted for the Runt20 because of the combination of the 20w, dedicated clean, and the cab sim (Line out without a cab, or load box). Couldn't be happier. Even without those, perfect amp.

A Friedman Runt 20 combo is my gigging amp. Love the DI option on it. I go straight into the board and unplug the speaker so there's no stage volume (I use IEMs). I get a lot of compliments from other guitar players on how it sounds. Great amp... great video as well. Thanks, man.

Amazing demo of this amp. This one is on my list. Either this or the JJ Jr. I was concerned that maybe the Runt 20 wouldn't have enough gain, but your demo has me thinking it probably has plenty. As long as it hits the heaviest of VH tones, I think I'm good to go. Thanks!

Yeah it has a lot more of gain but even better with good pickups ( overwound ideally ) and vintage speakers!...Greenbacks...broken in!

Sounds great but I think I would go with the runt 50 . Loved your demo of it . Your a monster of a player love the channel

Lo que más me ha impresionado es la claridad de las notas, lo bien que define los acordes y punteos con la ganancia a tope. Definitivamente, es un JCM800 muy refinado y con ganancia suficiente para tocar hard rock. Ahora bien, con mi pedal overdrive delante, es increíble como suena. Una delicia! Saludos!

I think the runt 20 sounds fantastic. I was originally going to get a Marshall SV20 but the runt was cheaper.. it was an easy choice to make. I now have a dsl20, a 5150-3 lbx, and a 6505mh, along with the runt and something no one mentions.. the runt is REALLY loud for a 20 watt amp, significantly louder than any of my other 20 watt amps.

Es idea mía o el canal limpio suena distinto al Runt 50 que tenías antes? El canal limpio de ese amplificador era tipo Fender y costaba más que saturara. Este Runt 20, como bien dices tú, es tipo Vox y quiebra antes. Muy buen video. Saludos 🤘

Friedman are awesome amps!!...and the runt series are Friedman core sound so awesome!...Yes Rev an Delay...Lexicon 480 and Korg SDD3000 both Universal audio on my Daw ( Luna )

It is loud in did!.. the thing is in my studio I can cranck my amps so I got for it…so I get a little bit of mojo from the power section…on a rehearsal or gig it would be impossible!!!. Thanks man!

Great review, palying and amazing sounds (also really enjoyed the whammy bar tricks). Just a question does it have noticeable noise (hiss or similar) on channel 2 while increasing gain knob ? Also ,how do you rate it as a recording tool? Many thanks (subscribed you channel)

It is not noisy at all!…even with the gain maxed out…it’s great for recording…

its an amazing amp. buy an eq pedal, throw it in the loop. done. any dang rock to metal tone you can dream of. better than the PT and JJJr to me, and ive owned all three

They are very similar but I think the JJ it’s a better evolution of the sound…more modern though…it depends on what you want/need…more classic…Runt…modern more Gain…JJ…clean channel are the same

I actually prefer the 20 over the 50 for recording. The 50 has a bottom end which seems to muddy the waters when mixing with other instruments, but probably sounds better to most people when they are playing guitar in isolation.

Gonza, hello again! Question. I am looking for that JCM800 feel/tone and gain. Do you think this one cuts it or should I take a look at the Marshall Studio Classic? The Runt seems like it feels better to play, thicker tones especially for solos. Love to hear your thoughts on this :)

I’ve always felt that the runt was on the 2204 type of sound…it is more aggressive that the regular BE sound…that is closer to the plexi thing..I’d say you can get the sound on the be Channel with no Boost…

Man, awesome playing and sick tones. I have a question for you. I tend to like the “modded Marshall” tone, ranging from that slash type tone to brown sound, all the way down to blues breaker sound. The Friedman line all seem like a good fit for me tonally. My issues has to do with volume and what will work in a home setting where the volume is pretty low. I have a kemper and have profiles of all the classic Marshall amps and the kemper does a very good job ans getting close to this sound and it does sound really good at low volume but I find myself wanting a tube amp too but not sure I’ll be able to make it sound good at lower bedroom volumes. I suppose you would have to get some time of attenuation device ? Is it possible to get these types of medium gain overdriven Marshall (Friedman) tones at bedroom volumes or should I just stick to me kemper ha?

Hola Chema!…ambos suenan casi iguales variando en el clean…el 20 es más Vox y el 50 más Fender…ahora si alguna vez necesitas más potencia y volumen el 50 es el camino pero en término de cómo suenan…suenan iguales

Busco una ganancia clasica y que suene gorda en afinaciones más bajas, al estilo Doug Alldrich, Iommi….en tus vídeos, con el boost activado da la sensación de que no hace falta nada más para conseguir ese tono. Si me confirmas que suena la ganancia igual que en el 50 w, creo que me resuelves todas mis dudas!

El canal BE es muy versátil y puede sonar Gordo o con más filo si quieres…si tienes una guitarra tipo LP deberías tener ese sonido

Nice!!!...pretty high actually...3/16” on both sides when the string it’s fretted on the 22th fret, bottom of the string to top of screw...not super hot pickup though

I now have the runt 20 and a SmallBox 50, I was wondering what do you think is the biggest difference between Runt 50 and Runt 20 on the BE channel. I'm thinking of getting the Runt 50 as well,... I know that the 50W amps usually sound fuller in tone with more Watts. Do you think that's true? What do you think about this? Is there more sparkle of top too? What made you change from runt 50 to 20? You really are the only one I could find that had both for a long time. Any information would be great! Thank you for your amazing videos! Cheers!

It’s true what you say about watts!..but in this case the BE channel it’s almost the same...no real difference...probably if you push the 20 to its limit will fall apart where the 50 will have even more headroom...I actually didn’t went from 50 to 20...that 20 was not mine ( Friend’s ). And I went from the Runt 50 to my BE100DLX...

Thanks man!...on both BE channel sounds the same...clean it’s little different...so the decision is if you need that 50 watts...or if you want Fendery Cleans...you wouldn’t go wrong either way!

I had a Runt 50 and wish I had never sold it. I'm considering getting the 20 even though I prefer the bigger power section. But I'm curious though, does the Runt 50 have more gain? I ask because the 50 has 4 12ax7s, but the 20 only has 3.

Same gain man…that extra tube on the 50 is for the Clean channel eq…they sound exactly same on the BE Channel…

I have a Runt 20 and my sis has the mini Dirty Shirley. I think the DS sounds a bit better but I like having the 12” speaker and the two channels on the Runt. DS has a lifetime warranty too compared to 5 years on the Runt

Amigo, se puede grabar con este friedman runt 20 con una caja directa con la salida de send qué pasa por la Interface, Sin la necesidad de tener un altavoz conectado??? Y después procesar con un simulador de pantalla como Mikko por ejemplo??? O solo se puede grabar sin pantalla directamente con la salida simulada ??? Saludos desde Mexico 😊

Hola Sergi...se puede usar sin gabinete...tiene una carga incorporada por lo que las opciones de conexiones son muchas...esto pasa con el Runt 20 y el JJ Jr También de 20 watts...no así con el 50...el 20 es muy conveniente

Mira si necesitas o te gusta más el sonido más Clean de un AC30...deberías ir por uno...si quieres crunch más pesado el Runt...si bien el limpio es buenísimo....el crunch es donde brilla!...

What I hear when I put my attenuator in low volume is that the sound becomes to focused on the mids ( not in a good way ) and you don’t have Bass or treble and no way to compensate that…so you can play but it sounds smaller not glorious!…
