Awesome seeing Dory Funk Sr and Terry Funk together..
Whoah, seeing Funk Sr. in action came unexpected and it took a second to swallow! Isn't there like close to zero footage of him wrestling? This is amazing!
Pro Wrestling during the kayfabe area. When the action was wild and the fans believed it.Im glad i became a fan in the 70s.Great film.
The animated black lady was "Big Mama" She had a huge white mallet, that she waved at the heels. I have her autograph somewhere!
WOWWWW! Incredible footage!! The interviews with the fans is priceless! Thank you, Sakuraba!! Houston was a great city for wrestling! I mainly remember Paul Bosch and KHTV channel 39
God damn this is the best thing on youtube! like a time capsule! if youre a wrestling true wrestling fan its a must!
Stan Stasiak was great here! His promo and selling of his own finish were so brilliant. Great doc.

That was brilliant job selling the fear and pain of getting his own move thrown at him.

Does anyone know where Stasiak was billed from? He was 🇨🇦 but just curious. 😊
The face turn of Johnny Valentine was outstanding. These are the times when I first went to the matches with my Grandma. Not long before this, Nick Kozak was taken out of the ring on a stretcher and into an ambulance from the heart punch. I was 11and I believed it was real ! Thanks Mr Sakuraba for sharing this video, it brought back great memories!

I'll never forget my dad taking me to see wrestling live back in the mid to late 60s when I was a kid. I'll never forget seeing a match with Wild Bull Curry. He got an ice pick and started gouging his opponent's face. It seemed like there was blood all over the place, but in actuality there probably wasn't near as much blood as what I remembered. He scared the hell out of a nine year old me back then.
This is INCREDIBLE.
Paul Boesch was a great promoter. From this interview and other ones I have seen , he seems like a polite person with a welcoming demeanor and really understands what pro wrestling should be. Thank You KAZUSHI SAKURABA , your channel is an informative look into Houston Wrestling , a promotion I have heard about ; but have not really seen much of. Good luck with future work.

I heard many wrestlers say good things about Boesch. Apparently he was always fare with the pay outs, unlike a lot of other promoters.
The way wrestling ought to be! Love the old school wrestling crowds too!

Fantastic classic from the golden age of wrestling
This is extremely amazing, incredible, awesome, priceless historic footage for us to pass next generation in whch you can see old Boesch pplying sleeper hold to young Terry Funk, baby face Bull Curry and enthusiastic atmosphere of Huston Colosseum in the early' 70s. Tank you Sakuraba-san.
Thank you so much for bringing me back to my childhood. I was such a huge Johnny Valentine fan. Again, thank you.
Good stuff

Hello,in 1972, I was 4years old.thank you for sharing your video 🙏👍
Great footage: Johnny Valentine vs Stan Stasiak, that’s how you build an angle.
Johnny Valentine sneaking the Heart Punch on Stan Stasiak. LOL
Amazing how the wrestling business went from this to what it is now. You had a diverse group of fans. Kids, hot women, different races. You had characters with diverse movesets and wrestlers who looked like men. Now its fat nerds living in their parents basement watching porn and wrestlers that look like high schoolers who don’t care about psychology but getting in their fancy spots. The marks are no longer in the seats but in the ring.

“The marks are no longer in the seats but in the ring” 💯 💯 💯 I was just thinking this to myself the other day. The wrestlers are so happy just to be there that they don’t give a shit what they’re told to do. I feel like real pro wrestlers would stand up to the office and say “this is bullshit and it’s terrible” or have the balls to go off script and feel the crowd.

This is the best history right here! Houston Wrestling at its finest.
The 2 referees was such a revolutionary thing! U never saw 2 refs unless dirty tactics were un previous matches... i so much love watching 70s houston wrestling
14:12.....😲.. what a story! Lucky to be alive after that encounter...

In my territory (St. Louis) in the 1960s, I saw Valentine many times, and he did that baby face turn because as a heel, he was so charismatic, after awhile people wanted to cheer for him. So, I saw him wrestle as both.
The fans are keeping kayfabe better than Bosch's. You younger kids, you hear those fans lose their shit when the heels do their stuff, that kids is what you call having heat. Something these modern heels couldn't generate without help from carrier. You hear the pops the of crowd when the faces make a comeback, that is called getting over. Such a great time capsule of that era.

You cannot be a heel without offending someone
Still remember the address of the Houston Wrestling office from watching on channel 39. 1919 Caroline at the corner of Pierce. (I think its a parking garage for a hospital now)
This footage is unreal...thank you
This is absolutely great!
This was an absolute pleasure to watch. There's just something special about old school wrestling. And seeing it in black n white makes it feel nostalgic. I wish I could go back in time to experience these days. Watching these interviews with the fans and how close they were in interacting with the wrestlers is really cool. The diversity of people. The way it brought them together. But that woman who was talking about her experience with a man who was bent on hurting her and killing her was errie. But those 2 beautiful young ladies makes u appreciate what woman use to look like. Way more attractive than the woman of today who are completely covered in tattoos
Thank you for uploading this!

Look at the cauliflower ear on paul lmao
Danny McShane, Dick Raines, Wild Bull Curry...Who came to our house...Red Bastien...Classic...Bruno came...Nick Bockwinkle.. The Funk's...Wahoo, Johnny Valentine. Boesch brought them all in ...
Wish I could go back to 1972 life was so much better along with wrestling. I just subscribed only if wrestling was like this today.
No bad guys in wrestling one fan said at the 11 minute mark of this video? Of course the heels cheat. They want the match to be more exciting. Without them, you would have fan favourites wrestle each other and the fun goes out the window. The ring villains as we have all come to know are as important to the matches as the ring heroes are.
Looking forward to more great videos! It's going to be a long month till your back..LOL
Paul Boesch was the FN Boss, in pro wrestling history!!!
This is fantastic
Thank you for this and other uploads. As others have typed, fantastic footage.
I wonder if somebody has those photos the old man took. The wrestling is cool but I love them walking to the fans.
Remember those days one of those matches? I remember when I was young. Tiger Conway junior and Gino Hernandez.
Man dory sr just a couple of months before he died
Rock and roll express versus midnight express.
I’m a native Houstonian who grew up near the Coliseum and spent many a Friday night there. My dad would drop off and then pickup me and my friends. I’d cut a neighbor’s grass for $5 and buy a $1.50 balcony ticket. The heart punch was scary. Loved it.
Those rats are probably in their 70s now
Another great match. I remember The spoiler vs Andre the giant.
Is that the same Gypsy Joe who wrestled in Memphis?
