The face turn of Johnny Valentine was outstanding. These are the times when I first went to the matches with my Grandma. Not long before this, Nick Kozak was taken out of the ring on a stretcher and into an ambulance from the heart punch. I was 11and I believed it was real ! Thanks Mr Sakuraba for sharing this video, it brought back great memories!

I'll never forget my dad taking me to see wrestling live back in the mid to late 60s when I was a kid. I'll never forget seeing a match with Wild Bull Curry. He got an ice pick and started gouging his opponent's face. It seemed like there was blood all over the place, but in actuality there probably wasn't near as much blood as what I remembered. He scared the hell out of a nine year old me back then.

Paul Boesch was a great promoter. From this interview and other ones I have seen , he seems like a polite person with a welcoming demeanor and really understands what pro wrestling should be. Thank You KAZUSHI SAKURABA , your channel is an informative look into Houston Wrestling , a promotion I have heard about ; but have not really seen much of. Good luck with future work.

Amazing how the wrestling business went from this to what it is now. You had a diverse group of fans. Kids, hot women, different races. You had characters with diverse movesets and wrestlers who looked like men. Now its fat nerds living in their parents basement watching porn and wrestlers that look like high schoolers who don’t care about psychology but getting in their fancy spots. The marks are no longer in the seats but in the ring.

“The marks are no longer in the seats but in the ring” 💯 💯 💯 I was just thinking this to myself the other day. The wrestlers are so happy just to be there that they don’t give a shit what they’re told to do. I feel like real pro wrestlers would stand up to the office and say “this is bullshit and it’s terrible” or have the balls to go off script and feel the crowd.

In my territory (St. Louis) in the 1960s, I saw Valentine many times, and he did that baby face turn because as a heel, he was so charismatic, after awhile people wanted to cheer for him. So, I saw him wrestle as both.

  • @classichost

The fans are keeping kayfabe better than Bosch's. You younger kids, you hear those fans lose their shit when the heels do their stuff, that kids is what you call having heat. Something these modern heels couldn't generate without help from carrier. You hear the pops the of crowd when the faces make a comeback, that is called getting over. Such a great time capsule of that era.

This was an absolute pleasure to watch. There's just something special about old school wrestling. And seeing it in black n white makes it feel nostalgic. I wish I could go back in time to experience these days. Watching these interviews with the fans and how close they were in interacting with the wrestlers is really cool. The diversity of people. The way it brought them together. But that woman who was talking about her experience with a man who was bent on hurting her and killing her was errie. But those 2 beautiful young ladies makes u appreciate what woman use to look like. Way more attractive than the woman of today who are completely covered in tattoos

No bad guys in wrestling one fan said at the 11 minute mark of this video? Of course the heels cheat. They want the match to be more exciting. Without them, you would have fan favourites wrestle each other and the fun goes out the window. The ring villains as we have all come to know are as important to the matches as the ring heroes are.
