Fret Zealot provides a host of scales, songs, and chord types to choose from along with an an easy to use interface. The system is a very useful tool for beginner or intermediate players looking for a way to jumpstart their learning process. It is a very unique product and I can see how useful it can be for many players.
Fret Zealot is also about to realize a portal where anyone can create fret Zealot data for any KZread video. Fret Zealot also allow 3rd party apps such as Guitar 3D or Uberchord.

I bought the Fret Zealot LED Learning system installed from Fret Zealot on a beautiful Yamaha (inexpensive guitar). The guitar is great. The Fret Zealot is just a device that I cannot deal with. As It is cumbersome, and has not really taught me anything yet. The lights are too bright to look at, the application has a lot of faults, and it sounds, as a cheap keyboard (try playing BB King like that). It did not come with the black glasses. Also, I bought the guitar from Fret Zealot so that FRET ZEALOT would PROFESSIONALLY install it. I was thinking that they were going to do a good job, as this was done in the factory, but I was surprised, the installation looks really bad. The tape is not properly placed on the top of the fret board, so it does not contact the wood, and the dots from the Fret Zealot do not match the guitars dots on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, or 12th, fret. The worst is the fact that is really not a teaching device, and the fact that they sell it as if it was is deceiving. It is very expensive, this device to me is not worth more than $50.00, and that is because it is an electronic flashy toy.

I own a Fretlight and it is okay. To see the LEDs you need to look at the fretboard more directly than while normally playing to see the LEDs a little easier, if not they look like they are under a different string. This seems a little better with the features the app has

Don't do it man! Fretlight guitars are garbage. I received the guitar after buying a demo version. The guitar was described as having been one used for trade shows and the like. When I received the guitar the fret-board near the neck was bulged outward. The guitar's hardware was loose and I paid for their fret service. A waste of money because the guitar wasn't even close to being set up correctly. They company actually told me, "you don't know anything about guitars". lol It was hilarious. Why would you have a guitar with a neck and fret-board issue as a trade show guitar?!! They are garbage man and the customer service was full of attitude.

There is another company which makes such a system and they go much further. They name their product: "Visual Note" and it goes all way up the frets to the body. It costs about 50$ mor than Fret Zealot, but its worth it. Sadly it does not work with headless guitars. Fret Zealot does this. That is unfortunat for me, becaues I want such a system on my headless guitar.

If they hadn't removed the song creator and Guitar pro tabs sync with mp3's from Yousician I'd recommend that over something that has you looking at the neck of your guitar. I guess it might be useful for reference, but I can see you relying on flashing lights and developing quick reactions to hit the right notes rather than focusing on playing the guitar. And it probably doesn't offer realtime feedback telling you if you made mistakes and what have you." Still, an interesting idea. If it were easily transferable between guitars and less expensive up front, it would be more interesting.

Hi Adrian- we do indeed offer realtime feedback :-). With "AI mode" available on any of the 35,000 songs, the app waits for you to play the correct note or chord before moving on to the next one. One of our app partners, Uberchord, does a very nice job of real time feedback and displays right to Fret Zealot while doing it. You are right about the transferable part- that was a compromise we needed to make to ensure that the system stayed attached very securely at all times, so installation is a one time process (it can still be removed, though). Let us know if you have any other questions!

As fun as it is to say "Frets-A-Lot" it's actually pronounced "Fret Zel-it" because originally it was called Fret Zeppelin but they couldn't get the appropriate licensing or just couldn't afford the dollar amount LED Zeppelin wanted to lease half of their name.

Can't you just do it as the instruction says? Take off the strings! And you can stick the system very much better on the neck. In my opinion, if someone makes a review, he should stick tite on the manual.

Thank you very much for your review! Looks really cool! Here is my opinion on it - do you want me to be honest or politically correct? I my honest opinion, though, if you don't have a talent to learn playing guitar any usual or standard way like a millions of people do, this FRET thing is a waist of your time, money, hope, effort and everything else. But this is only my opinion, opinion of one person. Good luck with it!

Take off the strings, it's pronounced "zell-uht" (as in: someone who is fanatical and overly committed to a cause) and why, for the love of humanity, would you do this to ANY Fender (no matter where it was made) --especially one that beautiful? Squiers these days are pretty decent, get a decent one of those and install there, and then use this groovy thing to learn some stuff. I do like your little logo.
