PROTEIN FRENCH TOAST RECIPE
4 slices sprouted grain bread or whatever bread you prefer
1/4 cup egg whites (58 grams), can sub 1 whole egg or 1.5 fresh egg whites
1/4 cup 2% milk or whatever milk you prefer
1/2 cup Greek yogurt (125 grams)
1/4 cup vanilla protein powder (14 grams or 1/2 scoop)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Add egg whites, milk, Greek yogurt, protein powder, and cinnamon to a blender or Nutribullet. Blend until well combined and creamy.
Transfer ‘protein egg mixture’ into a bowl. Dip each slice of bread in the protein egg mixture, ensuring each slice is soaked. Two slices of bread should absorb all of the protein egg mixture.
Lightly spray a non-stick cooking pan with non-aerosol cooking spray and heat over medium-low heat. Add soaked bread slices and cook for 2-3 minutes, flip, and cook for another 2 minutes or until the French toast is lightly browned and cooked through.
Serve with your favorite pancake toppings! I love a dollop of Greek yogurt, fresh berries, and a drizzle of maple syrup. Enjoy!
NOTES:
If you prefer a sweeter French toast, you can add some granulated or liquid sweetener to the protein egg mixture (maple syrup, monk fruit, and/or stevia would all be great options).
Sub in vanilla Greek yogurt for even more flavor!

I always enjoy your videos! Fun to see the French toast made out of these ingredients. I slice whole loaves of sourdough bread into 1 inch or less slices, set out to dry out on a big plate all day. Store away until next morning and they easily soak up more of the wet mixture. Thks for ideas on yogurt and protein powder! I will use that soon. Wow! Ahna. Atlanta Ga.

Hah, so weird that I just made a plant-based version of French toast this morning, and this video showed up! I used a mung bean concoction that is supposed to mimic Just Egg (which is way too pricey for me), and it came out great. I added cinnamon, vanilla extract and a little maple syrup to the batter. I may try adding the protein powder to the batter next time. Love the sprouted bread idea as well. I topped my toast with bananas, blueberries and maple syrup. Thanks so much for the recipe!

I'm not sure whether links are allowed here, but if you are interested, you can Google homemade Just Egg or mung bean Just Egg, and a bunch of recipes will show up. I actually wanted it for omelettes, but the texture from the recipe I used was a bit off. That said, I will tinker with it because it is so much cheaper (and healthier) than commercial Just Egg.
Will give it a go I have only just discovered french toast 😊❤

That's correct! I find the protein powder adds enough sweetness for me - but you can certainly add some maple syrup if you would like it sweeeter!

Hello and love your channel!:). I have a question, does adding the toast to the heat cut back on the protein amount where it’s being put in heat. I just always heard adding foods like this to heat lessens the benefits and strips out the nutrients and protein? Just curious and want to try this really bad but want your thoughts on it? The egg whites have more protein while the egg yolks are mostly fat. Because I wanted to make a high-protein recipe, I chose to use only the whites but if prefered you could use the whole it will just increase the total fat and lower the total protein content.

@@CleanandDeliciousDani Back in the days, when the bread was too hard and too dry, it was not eatable, lost, hence "pain perdu" ("lost bread"). This recipe was created to save the last pieces of bread that had become too hard to be eaten normally. That's also why egg and milk are the key ingredients, to make it tender again =) Poor families commonly used this recipe to save every last bites and have a full stomach with few ingredients, but now you can eat "pain perdu" for dessert in some restaurants here in France =)

Because I wanted to create a higher protein, lower fat french toast. I do agree that whole eggs - are super nutritious (I am not anti-whole eggs!) and could certainly work for this recipe if preferred.
Sorry for being "that guy" again, but 1/2 cup of greek yogurt is more like 125-140g , not 75g, unless you are using some type of extremely fluffed up one.
