Freiwillige Vor! (Richard Gunther)
No information can be traced on the composer of this march, the title of which translates as Forward Volunteers. It was played as King Edward VII inspected the Guards at the first Birthday Parade of his reign, beginning the tradition of the Sovereign attending the parade in person.
Following the inspection the King presented new Colours to the newly formed 3rd Bn. Scots Guards after a short service of consecration which began with the Massed Bands and Drums singing the hymn 'Brightly Gleams Our Banner' to the tune of Sullivan's 'Onward Christian Soldiers'. The parade then resumed its traditional form but with both the King's and Regimental Colours being trooped.
