Lillian Raymond is one of many pseudonyms used by James Ord Hume, the name being that of one of his daughters, born in 1902. He was one of the most prolific composers and arrangers for both brass and military bands and served widely as an adjudicator at home and overseas.
Ord Hume was born in Scotland in 1864 and had composed a number of popular marches by his mid-teens, having enlisted into the 3rd Bn. The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) as a boy soldier. He transferred to the Band of the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) in 1881 at the instigation of the Duke of Buccleuch, Captain-General of the Royal Company of Archers, the Sovereign's Bodyguard in Scotland, so perhaps this may have been the inspiration for this slow march.
