Freedom to Chains - Paul Harvey

In 1965, American radio host Paul Harvey gave an immense warning to the American people about the fate of the nation. “We Were Warned: Freedom to Chains” is a short film about the parallels between the warning Harvey gave over fifty years ago, and today with the Socialist influences in government and society. This video is an edit of the short film created to provide only the audio without the visuals seen in the original.

When I was a boy in the early 1960’s visiting my grandparents every summer in Nanticoke, PA., my grandma listened to Paul Harvey everyday. I stopped what I was doing to listen too. His news delivery was unlike anything I had ever heard, and I just loved “The rest of the Story” he would speak of. His breed is gone now, and he is not experiencing the heartbreak over our society today as the rest of us are. I am grieved over what I see happening in these United States today. His life influenced and taught many, he is greatly missed.

So glad I listened to this from Mr. Harvey. I feel the exact same way you do. When I saw that your comment was just two days ago, I had to let you know I read it. The wisdom you inherited from your grandparents was so profound, that it never left your soul. I wish you a safe. Love to you. Thank you for leaving this for us to see. Simplistic rhetoric. I see the pose is him looking up to the left, so I suppose he would have to be facing west at midday if he were outside. That kind of contrivance is a piece of information the 'working classess' need to be aware of, but not try and copy, or react violently to, even though it is an attempt at psychological manipulation. I think he is saying be watchful of those in administration and don't let them walk over you.

It is important to allow the speech from all sides. Usually when both sides are allowed to speak, most people can figure out which is real, & which is not, because the one speaking the truth will come at the subject directly & produce verifiable facts/sources, whereas the one spouting propaganda most times won't answer a direct question, will try to change the subject, will spout a lot of rhetoric, or often raise their voices, threaten, & throw insults. Regarding Taxes: 2 years ago I received a letter from my bank, the Bank of Scotland. Seemingly the US Gov't , via my bank, required me to prove I was not American or I would be taxed by them. I'm a 72 year old Scotsman. A worker. When our children were very young we went on a 10 day holiday to Boston (thoroughly enjoyed), that was our only visit to the USA. Aparrently the US Gov't has an aggreement with other countries banks to formalise this. In order to prove to the US Gov't via my bank I had to make a legal statement of proof that I wasn't a US Citizen. My Bank's advice was to comply or they would never be off my back. I complied. No further contact. Why me? No idea but I was not the only one. I know that. Aye what Mr. Harvey says is wisdom indeed. Best Wishes to the US from Scotland. Jock.

Paul Harvey was of a time that he saw what was coming. He was prophetic in his words and only wanted us to know what was to come if we continued on the road we have long navigated. It is here. We are here. We have been lax with our children, told them whatever makes them happy is what they should strive for instead of saying "nothing is free, there will be a price to pay" We have done a disservice to the younger generation as it was easier to let them play video games than to engage and make them think. I am 62 YO. I work in Hospice as an RN. I have seen death and I do not fear it. But I do fear what has happened in this once great country. We are no longer great, we are no longer good. We are I believe done. Sorry but we did it to ourselves. Good luck with the coming shortages, gas hikes and no one able to call their life their life their own. We have slept for a long time, let the people who screamed the loudest put us down. We have done this to ourselves fearing the backlash from the ones who scream the loudest. The media used to be on the side of America. No more. And if you disagree you are the enemy. I am the enemy.

@@greeneyesNink Harvey was a 'self help guru' of his time, spouting over-simplified solutions to contemporary issues which had outgrown and evolved beyond conservative values. It's too easy to reminisce about the 'good old days' and assume that things were better then. They weren't. They were DIFFERENT then, not better. Ask women and minorities whether things were better FOR THEM back in 1960.

Except no one's tongue has been torn out. No one is being silenced, quite the opposite in fact. During the time when Harvey was making his idiotic rants, Americans had considerably less freedom of speech compared to today. Comics are no longer arrested like they were in the 60's. Civil right's leaders are not being silenced. Trump and his lying minions are free to say and do whatever they want. You people must live in a different dimension if you believe Harvey's nonsense.

I remember seeing him smile at what Mr Harvey was saying and laughing. I remember thinking that Paul Harvey was old, what was my dad going ot listen to when he passed and was no longer on the radio, it was clear that he enjoyed his program so much. It turned out that Paul Harvey had a lot more years left than my Dad did. I still listen to Paul Harvey and in some small way, his words comfort me and connect me to my Dad. There is still so much wisdom in what he said so many years ago.
