"How does the Service Request Practice contribute to the Obtain/Build service value chain activity?" *Acquisition* of pre-approved service components may be fulfilled through service requests. The major hint here is the word 'acquisition', which is tantamount to 'obtain', from the obtain/build SVC activity. When in doubt, look for keywords in both the question and the answer choices. The right answer will usually be worded in a way that is related to the concept highlighted in the question.

Love the content, but the answer to Q5 is definitely Keep it Simple and Practical…from the Axelos course book: Focuses on simplifying the complex work methods. To achieve this, identify and eliminate processes, services, actions, or metrics that do not add any value.

I've only watched your exam prep playlist and taken notes on Quizlet, and I got 8/10 here! 7 out of 8 I knew immediately. I'm so nervous to take this exam. I've taken it once before and failed by 1 question. I'm getting around 80-90% of the questions right in the mock exams I take but the nerves are real. I take it in 2 hours... Wish me luck!

Hi Shane I am really hoping that you pass it and keep all my fingers crossed 🤞 80-90% is already quite good. I suggest you do a quick run during the exam, answering the easy questions. Then a second run, where you take on the harder questions. If you are in doubt, try to close out wrong answers first. Often, answer that deal in absolutes are wrong ones. Like "always" or "never" or "must". Also, often the longest answers are the good ones as they try to explain the answer in more detail. Hope this helps. All the best, Alex

Great material, extremely useful! I only have a question: the "multiple choice" type only refers to the list types of questions? All the resources I found have "simple choice" answers (which means for every question there is only 1 correct answer, not more of them like having A,B,C,D options and having to choose by yourself which one/ones would be correct), not "multiple choice". Maybe the terminology lost its meaning by translating it :(

So it is ALWAYS only one correct answer you need to select during the exam. The exam tool won't even allow you to select more. But sometimes these selections contain a list of possible options. EG: Which is true for the xyz practice. Statement 1, Statement 2, Statement 3. And the answers options would be. A. 1,2 and 3 B. 2 and 3, C. 1 and 3 D. None of them Hope this helps. Cheers, Alex

The 5th Question - I don't think D is the answer. The question talks about removing waste and identify bottlenecks - This is the role of "Keep It Simple and Practical" GP and not "Collaborate and Promote Visibility". Kindly explain in detail how is it otherwise?

Hi Akash What you are saying is right., but D is the more accurate answer. Keep it simple and practical' states that the organization should use the minimum number of steps, and eliminate steps that produce no useful outcome. This does imply that you should uncover waste, but it does not specifically highlight the need to understand the flow of work and identify bottlenecks. Collaborate and promote’ visibility states "Insufficient visibility of work leads to poor decision-making, which in turn impacts the organization’s ability to improve internal capabilities. It will then become difficult to drive improvements as it will not be clear which ones are likely to have the greatest positive impact on results. To avoid this, the organization needs to perform such critical analysis activities as: understanding the flow of work in progress; identifying bottlenecks, as well as excess capacity; and uncovering waste" I hope this helps, otherwise, please let me know. Any easy way to remember the Service Value Chain Activity application questions (#10/#1)? Are there a list of keywords associated with each practice? So far I'm seeing these repeated: - Plan - portfolio, portfolio decisions, architectures & policies - Improve - improve initiatives, status reports - Engage - 3rd party service components, contracts and agreements, external parties - Design and transition - new and changed products and services - Obtain/build - service components, components, new resources - Deliver and support - service and performance information, timely incident resolution For those questions (#10/#1) is it about matching the management keywords with the appropriate SVC keywords?

Hi M Thanks for the comment. And while the logic is not bad it is not a 100% watertight. Nevertheless, it would probably get you through these types of questions during the exam. Luckily, there are not a lot of these :) I would suggest, to focus on understanding the purpose of each SVC activity. When you try to summarize them in once sentence...that sentence will help you to connect them with the practices. Best Regards, Alex

I don't agree with question number 5 answer. It should be C, not D. The definition of Keep it simple and Practical is if a process service action or metric fails to provide value or produce a useful outcome eliminate it. That's the very definition of identifying bottlenecks and removing waste. Using the minimum number of steps necessary is about flow of work. question has nothing to do with collaboration and promoting visibility.

Hi Jason Thanks a lot for reaching out about that questions. You are right, that "Keep it simple and practical" implies that waste should be uncovered, however it does not specifically highlight the need to understand the flow of work and highlight bottlenecks. It is more about reaching our goals and results without overspending and overcomplicating things. You see, waste is not in a straight correlation with bottlenecks. Waste can have many forms like overproduction or transportation. Perhaps you have heard of the acronym TIMWOODS, which identifies the different types of waste. Furthermore, without collaboration and the promotion of visibility, there is now way to identify bottlenecks or blockers in processes or workflows, especially if we are talking about an organization with dependencies between teams and departments. And it is also true that the Guiding Principles interact with each other and might even have some overlaps. According to Axelos, that is on purpose, because it shows that they are bes applied in conjunction. Hope this helps, otherwise let me know and we can discuss further. All the best, Alex

Thank you very much. The definitions might be confusing indeed, I agree. It is a very special terminology used by ITIL, but one of the purposes of the foundation course is exactly to get everyone on a common ground about the meaning of the concepts and everything else.
