How to Make An Effective FREE Pop Filter To Achieve Excellent Quality Audio With Your Microphone…
As promised here's where you can get the Yeti microphone shown in the video: amzn.to/2NzXAFG
Using nothing but a few sheets of paper and a tissue, I’m going to show you how to make an effective pop filter to help you get an excellent quality recording with your microphone.
In fact, the free pop fitter I’m about to show you how to make is the one I’m using to record this video now.
and the best part about this filter is, you don’t need to buy any special materials like an embroidery hoop, stockings, wire, duct tape or require any special tools like pliers. Just a few sheets of paper, and a tissue is all you need.
But before we look at how to make it, lets quickly look at what a pop filter is and why you should use one.
A pop filter is simply a wind shield that protects your microphone from the small puffs of air that come out of your mouth when you pronounce certain words. Most notably are words that start with, or contain the letter “P”
So why is this important?
Well the single easiest way to improve the quality of your audio is by taking advantage of what’s known as the “proximity effect”, or in other words, speaking as close as you can to the microphone. Allow me to demonstrate…

They say genius is a making something complex simple, and you've done that with this tutorial. You also saved me making a purchase for a bulky pop filter - thank you!
Spends $3000 on professional mic Spends $0.25 on filter SUCCESS!

Hey, Look heres a better way. 1. get a piece of cardboard, 2. cut 2 decent size squares 3. inside those squares, Make the squares hollow. 4.Find Fabric that air can pass thought then cut it to the the squares it can be bigger. 5. Go online and buy a Pop Filter for $5
this is genius for people who don't have stuff like wire and panty hose lying around -- i mean, I do, but that's because i'm a weirdo with a huge craft stash.
I love this guy! He lists a super simple list of ingredients, 3 sheets of paper and a tissue.. At the very beginning of the actual instructions, he then states "You do not necessarily need 3 sheets of paper...". He does not even require SCISSORS! I am trying to make a pop filter for a headset mic, and even if I find better instructions elsewhere, I MUST make one using this video. Thank you!
Genius.. This Works Perfectly.. I Was Skeptical
This guy is THE REAL MONEY SAVER of KZread
Tried this in a soundproof room for professional recording. Works like charm!
Him: making a pop filter out of paper and tissue Me: just puts the tissue in front of my microphone
I have a Blue Yeti. I was able to make a great pop filter by putting two thin dress socks over my mic. It works pretty well. I'll have to experiment more, but thanks for the idea, Live Smarter!
Great design and very effective. I did a spectral analysis of the before and after. Doing a spectral analysis there seems to be a 6khz scoop present nearly throughout the whole recording except in a few places and with the pop filter removed, so it could just be comb filtering with a nearby surface. Worth looking into more because this is potentially a life saver for some recording situations.
Just wanted to say thank u very much for this:) I got into song recording during this corona pandemic, so I'm not able to order a pop filter in time. This works great, I really appreciate you making this video! much love

This is genius! Thanks!
absolutely genius
This works, and it works very well for a tissue. Thanks!
Creative!!!
OMG it just worked so so so good, I'm starint a cover proyect and I only have a cheap microphone and a good camera, but the souds were too noisy and rough... But not anymore!!! :D Thanks so so much... I changed a few things but works amazingly!!!!
whoa, this is amazing. thank you so much!
It actually works Thank you :D
simply the best. going to make one....
Wonderful !!! Thanks A LOT !
Nice tutorial! I may just do this because waiting for a pop filter online will take awhile, so this should be able to hold me off for a while.
Wow! Thank you so so so so so so so much! :D You completely saved me, I used to spend many hours editing the audio to remove the pops. I will use this filter every day. Thank you so much! Happy holidays.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE
IT WORKS! THANK YOU!
thanks, awesome idea!
oh man this is really helpful
saved my life thank you
Thank you!! This video was very useful for me! I did not want to buy the stuff. I was actually thinking of buying one. Thank you! You rock!!
2nd time watching this, So glad you didn't take the video down!
ty from doing dis was very helpful😎
I wouldn't attatch it to the mic. That's where the little high pitched background ding sounds are coming from. The paper rubbing on the metal.
Great job on this video. I really enjoy my pop filter and it helps greatly in recording performance. Although mine isn't textbook and I also used staples because I couldn't form the channel for the tissue. Otherwise, great video, keep up the good work.
Great video!
thank u so much this helped alot
You are amazing thanks for the help
Thank's it's a cool Idea
Thank bro been trying to make a KZread channel but microphone sounds weird and distant but this helped thanx and I'm subscribing

omg this was a life saver, i mean i do not intend to use it on a permanent basis but for a quick and temporary fix it is perfect.
OH THANK GOODNESS! i couldn't get the paper to fold and stay around my (yes, cheap) headset mic, so i cheated and used a paperclip for the frame. the results are stunning! thanks!
can replace tissue with the cloth?
Nice!
Excellent Work!! Im an upcoming musician and I really needed to know how to make one. Thanks a lot!

Great idea for those who works with mics :)
Thank you so much :D
its very nice good idea
Thanks
this is really smart. How did you come up with this idea?
Hey Ben, I'm impressed with your video mostly because your effort to explain things in clear way, you must've put some time and effort in research how to do those videos well, clearly you succeeded.
favorited that video so that once i get a mic soon i can make it!! THanks!!!
Wow this video is amazing ~! THank u ~!!!
Awesome! BTW I'm to 1001 person to like it! :D
do you have to replace the tissue?
Does it work on Blue Snowball?! Plus I don't have wires at home. Thanks 😀
Nice Idea :)
HELLO.. Is a pop filter used for karaoke outside? And what kind of professional wired microphone should I use for my karaoke portable speaker?
that is sick man!!I can make my own videos which my smooth voice thank you man!!I preciate you
Im eventually gonna do a setup vid and use this filter
you are a wizard
thanks
@ C Hill: EXACTLY! I use a black thigh high. though I tacked the 2 layers together as I found my vocals rather thin with the gap between the 2 layers. :)
What's that weird metallic sound? If your using a boom stand without a shockmount that tends to happen
can you use like wire instead of paper for a nicer look or are the paper a thing that do so the sound quality is better ? or are it just a cheaper version . From SWEDEN
Hey bro , Can you please tell me what software you guys use for editing a video ? Can u guys give me that link please ?
Holy shit, I just needed to look this up. Thanks!
I made a pop filter out of kitchen paper towel. Sounds great and blocks pops that no foam was as good as the paper one...
Amazing video! Thanks! :) - Which video program do you use to make the cool text in the video? :D For example 1:45
What microphone is that you using in the video please I'm thinking of buying a blue yeti microphone but not sure which one because I'm a upcoming rapper which mic is better for me
It would have been a much better comparison if you set up your gain and compression so that your Audio Level was the same at all distances. Just the volume boost alone will likely make most people go "Well it sounds 100% better close up" - The closer you get, the more of a boost around 120hz and below get, usually up to around +10db. Just wanted to point out every microphone, voice, and use case is different so speaking "as close as possible" is not universally better. Great idea for a pop filter though. I don't really like that tissue paper has some small airy fibers on it, so I might try it with a paper towel instead.. though I'm worried it may be too thick. Any suggestions on other materials?
First time I ever heard of the word "plosive." Funny
You, sir, are very resourceful! Clear, comprehensive video. Though pop filters are (can be) relatively inexpensive (I've seen them for $6 on Amazon tho reviews indicate crappy clamps), this provides folks w/an instant solution for no out-of-pocket .. way cool! I make my own PF. Trial & error & I arrived @ one that works like a champ. Cost = Zilch. Fashionable as well ... and u know that's important!! Good work!
The most tutorial!!!
super dude well creative...(y)

Try putting 1 or 2 socks on it. It should be a good pop filter if this one wont stand up.
