FREE DIY Microphone Pop Filter - Made Entirely Of Paper…

How to Make An Effective FREE Pop Filter To Achieve Excellent Quality Audio With Your Microphone…
As promised here's where you can get the Yeti microphone shown in the video: amzn.to/2NzXAFG
Using nothing but a few sheets of paper and a tissue, I’m going to show you how to make an effective pop filter to help you get an excellent quality recording with your microphone.
In fact, the free pop fitter I’m about to show you how to make is the one I’m using to record this video now.
and the best part about this filter is, you don’t need to buy any special materials like an embroidery hoop, stockings, wire, duct tape or require any special tools like pliers. Just a few sheets of paper, and a tissue is all you need.
But before we look at how to make it, lets quickly look at what a pop filter is and why you should use one.
A pop filter is simply a wind shield that protects your microphone from the small puffs of air that come out of your mouth when you pronounce certain words. Most notably are words that start with, or contain the letter “P”
So why is this important?
Well the single easiest way to improve the quality of your audio is by taking advantage of what’s known as the “proximity effect”, or in other words, speaking as close as you can to the microphone. Allow me to demonstrate…

Hey, Look heres a better way. 1. get a piece of cardboard, 2. cut 2 decent size squares 3. inside those squares, Make the squares hollow. 4.Find Fabric that air can pass thought then cut it to the the squares it can be bigger. 5. Go online and buy a Pop Filter for $5

I love this guy! He lists a super simple list of ingredients, 3 sheets of paper and a tissue.. At the very beginning of the actual instructions, he then states "You do not necessarily need 3 sheets of paper...". He does not even require SCISSORS! I am trying to make a pop filter for a headset mic, and even if I find better instructions elsewhere, I MUST make one using this video. Thank you!

Great design and very effective. I did a spectral analysis of the before and after. Doing a spectral analysis there seems to be a 6khz scoop present nearly throughout the whole recording except in a few places and with the pop filter removed, so it could just be comb filtering with a nearby surface. Worth looking into more because this is potentially a life saver for some recording situations.

It would have been a much better comparison if you set up your gain and compression so that your Audio Level was the same at all distances. Just the volume boost alone will likely make most people go "Well it sounds 100% better close up" - The closer you get, the more of a boost around 120hz and below get, usually up to around +10db. Just wanted to point out every microphone, voice, and use case is different so speaking "as close as possible" is not universally better. Great idea for a pop filter though. I don't really like that tissue paper has some small airy fibers on it, so I might try it with a paper towel instead.. though I'm worried it may be too thick. Any suggestions on other materials?

Though pop filters are (can be) relatively inexpensive (I've seen them for $6 on Amazon tho reviews indicate crappy clamps), this provides folks w/an instant solution for no out-of-pocket .. way cool! I make my own PF. Trial & error & I arrived @ one that works like a champ. Cost = Zilch. Fashionable as well ... and u know that's important!! Good work!
