She was a legend in Spain and he was a big fan. Singing with her was one of the final items on his bucket list-- she was thrilled and he wrote a full album for her. This was meant for the Olympics Opening, but was recorded earlier-- sadly he knew he was not going to make it to 1992. Epic, right??!

She was a world famous legendary operatic soprano, and he loved her voice and wanted to meet her. They met briefly in early 1987 and hit it off. She was from Barcelona, and she asked that he write and record a song with her that would be used as the theme for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. This was the result. They ended up recording an entire album together, and his last live performance was with her. He was already ill, and apparently when she said she wanted him to sing this with her at the Olympics he told her he would be gone by then, and he was. Barcelona was replaced as the theme for the Games after Freddie died but was indeed used throughout the Olympic telecasts, including here kzread.info/dash/bejne/e657pbqdiJnNmco.html at the beginning of the International Broadcast of the Opening Ceremonies. Side note: In case you don't remember it or want to see it again, if you skip ahead to about 2:42:00 this Olympics had pretty much the coolest and most spectacular cauldron-lighting ceremony EVER.

Spanish soprano, Montserrat Caballe was an operatic diva of the first order. Dubbed "La Superba" (the superb one) by the Italian public, she had an international career in concert and opera that started in the 1960's. Freddy was always an opera fan and specifically a fan of hers. The collaboration with her on this duet he said was a *dream come true". She was a true fan of his as well and spoke so glowingly of the experience of working with him and how he was such a special person. They originally recorded this duet way before the Barcelona Olympic games in 1992 and Freddy did not live long enough to sing it at the games but a video recording was used during the opening ceremonies. Montserrat Caballe never officially retired and passed away in 2018 at the age of 85. May they both sing endless duets now in heaven.❤

Yes, Brian had to finish the last verse of Mother Love because Freddie was too ill to come back to the studio again. It gives me chills when I listen to the power in Freddie's voice in the first 2 verses. He was facing his imminent death and yet his voice was so strong and dynamic. Probably one of the strongest people to ever live, facing such a horrible disease and signing his heart out until the bitter end. He will always be my hero.
